Polartec Classic Micro

This is a thin fleece cut typically Arc'teryx. I use this around the house, or for a hike above 45F. Layers under my softshell as well. Fits a baselayer underneath. Nice, light fleece in the Arc'teryx line. |

Light, Durable Softshell

This is a nice light shell that is very versatile. I wear a Powerstretch top and run in 25F. It is light and easy to throw in my pack for a fall hike. Nylon panels and a full zip help vent. Fits small compared to Patagonia or Arc'teryx, so I went up to an XL at 6ft, 200lbs. I like this better than a Marmot DriClime, as I can choose the insulation I need. Polyester seems very durable, and better than the 100% nylon shells. |

Thin Breathable softshell

This is a great example of the newer softshells that put a premium on breathability over insulation. This is a thin polyester shell that stretches due to the weave of the fabric, not from added spandex. It's is easy to add insulation. Patagonia has also used fused seams (CSS Technology) so the jacket is lighter, and more water resistant. Chose the Ready Mix jacket if you want a hood. Full zip makes it easy to vent, and the side pockets are meshed for additional venting. High collar with drawcord seals the neck nicely. |

Maximum fleece

I'm cold. I wanted a thick fleece that fitted well so that the drafts wouldn't sneak under the bottom of the coat. This fits the bill, and is a wonderful addition to my stable. It fits nicely under my Beta SL shell for a bomb-proof combo when the weather is blizzard or worse. Fit is nice, and the XL works for my 6'1" 200lbs. I like the tight cuffs, as they seal well, but only room for a base layer underneath. |

Bombproof

This shell performs as advertised. Easy to put a heavy fleece underneath (my choice Maverick SV) when it's a blizzard. Hood adjustment is easy and precise for my bald dome to a helmet when I ski. Heavier fabric on top of shoulders protect from pack straps or skis. |

Spring and Fall Hiking gear

Great mid-layer during the in-between seasons. This is the perfect loft for active times, and it breaths well, so you never feel soggy. I have this on for hiking in 40-60 degree F days, and with a softshell windshirt on top, down to 30 or so if it is windy or raining. Sleeves are tight which are good for hiking, but this isn't my choice for casual wear. |
