I gave my son, who is a Bear Cubscout, the Burton Day Hiker for his 8th birthday. We have used it once camping, and plan to more this fall. We adjusted the straps as short as they will go for him, so it has plenty of room to grow into. He uses the pocket on the front flap for his Cloudliner Hydration Bag, and thinks its real neat. We can leave his 'essestials' packed - makes packing simpler. His sleeping bags fits in the straps across the front, so it's more than just a day hiker. The only feature I don't need is the little hole for the headphone cord on one of the side pockets... I go into the woods to get away from all of that.
