I bought as my primary light source for caving - I was disappointed. The incandescent light has a narrowly focused beam but doesn't project as far into the darkness as I had hoped. The 3-LEDs do a terrific job for proximity lighting and the power settings features are useful for stretching battery life. I do appreciate the power level indicator. I found trying to adjust the angle of the headlamp with gloved hands usually caused me to either change the power level or switched the unit off, which was inconvenient. This light proved useful when I was in the middle of the group caving and only needed a proximity light. With the alternate power settings I easily got 6 hours out of one set of batteries with a continuous burn time. After the trip the power level indicator is still blinking green that's how good the electronics are. If you plan to lead your way in a cave there are better headlamps suited for that. If you camp, hike, or do other activities, this is a great lamp. It just doesn't perform in in large caverns in total darkness like I had hoped it would.
