Salomon pants, form over function?

I normally wear size 34-36 pants. I know Salomon has weird sizing, so I ordered size 40 to be safe. The size 40 fits like a size 36-38 and is a little too big. Good thing I have a belt. They also have a lower rise than normal, these pants aren't recommended for people susceptible to plumber's crack. The pants legs are not tapered and appear to be boot cut, but they have an adjustable "ankle cuff." I'm 6'0" and these pants are too long. This isn't a big deal with boots on, but without boots I'm stepping on the "ankle cuff" buttons and dragging the buttons on the floor. The button-down side pockets are just for show. The flaps are buttoned open and cannot be buttoned closed. That is very silly if you ask me. They are constructed of a fairly thin/lightweight cotton canvas. They'll probably be cool in the summer but not particularly durable. These pants look cool and I like the design other than the low rise and side pockets. I also wish I could've selected my inseam length. |

I like these pants.

The fit is tighter at the thigh and looser at the ankle, which is a style I prefer. It's an exaggerated boot-cut, and has a dangerously borderline bell-bottom feel to them. I like the two zippered slash pockets, the pull can be tucked away if you don't like zippers. The cargo pocket is low-profile and keeps your payload secure, though the side-access isn't as convenient as top-access. I would describe the material as a very supple stretch nylon. The belt locks & unlocks quickly, but I would've preferred a T-lock belt. My actual measured waist is 36 inches around, and a size 36 would give me a correct fit. |
