Burton Baron Snowboard - Wide    Read other reviews of this product

Bigger Custom?   01-03-06

A friend let me try his Baron over the weekend and told me it is just like the Burton Custom, only wider. He was right, it is wider, but isn't like the Custom. The Baron did spectacular in the powder and was a dream speeding between the trees. Unlike the Custom, the Baron didn't handle too well for me in the park and lacked the flex and quickness of the Custom. Going from edge to edge was substantially slower when I wanted quick transitions and instant responsiveness. I gave the Baron 3 stars overall and think it’s a stellar all-mountain stick comparable to the K2 Eldorado. I'd give it a much higher rating (5 stars) in comparison to much larger boards on the market.

Burton Mission Snowboard Binding    Read other reviews of this product

Surprsingly effective and added responsiveness   01-03-06

I've been riding for a long time and used to be a Burton fan, but that has passed. The other day I used a demo board with these Mission bindings and was surprisingly pleased. += With the cap I felt a much quicker response and had improved control in comparison to toe strap bindings. At higher speeds and velocity I could feel enhanced edge transition by just applying pressure to the toe strap, which made for a great day in the park and in the powder. -= The latch to unhook the binding isn't too user friendly and collects snow easily. Also, the toe strap adds some bulk to your toe, which could be bad if you have big feet riding a slimmer board. ** Unlock the hard back and fold down before getting on the lift. You will break these if you don't!! If you want a softer binding with the toe strap, try the Cartel by Burton.

Burton Custom X Snowboard    This product is no longer available

Pricey   01-03-06

Unlike the regular Custom made of wood, the X has an aluminum base. This means light and fast, but there is a huge risk of damaging the board if you're a particularly rough rider and like the park.

K2 Zeppelin Snowboard    This product is no longer available

Sharp, versatile, responsive, light, and authentic to all-mountain   02-17-06

Just got my new Zeppelin two weeks ago and I've ridden it 5 times. It proves itself superior in all riding conditions. I spend little time in the park, and I prefer taking charge of the mountain in search of steeps, huge kickers, and fresh powder. I've found this board to work best with stiff bindings for optimal control and responsiveness. There is only one thing, I demoed the Burton Custom-X right before getting this board and I have to say that the Custom-X is a hair better for getting larger air and cleaner landings. The Custom-X is also lighter, but far more expensive and the graphics suck. Regardless, the Zeppelin is a serious performer at a lower cost. Do it... do it.

DC Phase Snowboard Boot - Men's    This product is no longer available

Phased Already   01-03-06

I bought these boots two months ago at the beginning of the season. Unfortunately these were great new, but now they're too broken-in and uncomfortably packed-out. It’s a pretty soft boot to begin with and handles well. I saw challenges with the boot maintaining its integrity and support. I'd recommend these if you board just a few times a year and want an inexpensive boot that serves decent performance. I wouldn't recommend these if you ride frequently and demand lasting performance and support. Pay a little more and get the DC Halo with the Boa fit system if you ride a lot.
