Scarpa F3 Alpine Touring Boot    Read other reviews of this product

Light but powerful   05-06-08

I am just making the switch to AT from tele after 20+ years. Was skiing in T2s for the last ten years. For me this boot has been the perfect transition. Because of the bellows it tours like my old T2s, but lock it down and the control is stellar. They are incredibly light, feels like I have running shoes on; and they were comfortable starting on day one. I tend to ski steep terrain, especially tight couloirs, and I'm finding these boots are plenty of boot for my purposes. I'm skiing them with the Dynafit Vertical, on a pair of two year old Atomic Kongurs. I'm having some trouble adjusting to having my heel locked down, but in terms of performance these boots have far exceeded my expectations. If you ski steep terrain but also like to log 10,000+ days, these boots will get you there.

Arc'teryx Fugitive Hooded Jacket - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

My favorite piece   05-06-08

I bought one of these, then loved it so much that I ordered two more because I was afraid they would stop making them. This is by far the best midweight jacket I've ever owned, very comfortable and cozy. For me it's not a technical piece, but I have used it for rock climbing and it's very durable. It's not frumpy like lots of hoodies, has a very athletic fit. Fits over my climbing helmet. I've worn this piece almost every day for three years.

Marmot Randonnee Glove - Men's    This product is no longer available

Cold hands   12-05-05

I like the feel of these gloves—very comfortable on the hand—so I bought a second pair even after blowing through my first pair in half a season. The second pair blew apart too, seams are weak. They’re also not very warm. I have had constantly cold digits in these gloves even on mild days. Disappointing because the fit is so good. A good California glove, but not meant for Montana.

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch    Read other reviews of this product

Must be made in China   02-28-08

I bought the light green version of the Core, and it worked for about a month before the total ascent measurement went bonkers. I returned it, got another, and in two days the log stopped working entirely. Bad run of luck, or crappy quality? All you have to do is hold the thing in your hand to realize how poorly made it is. Very cheap construction. Seems to me that Suunto should be building them a little better after all these years.
