Not Very Rugged   01-04-06

This coat is nice, it holds out wind and water really well and is lightweight and comfortable. I can't deny it’s a great coat. However, there are some things I wished I'd known before I purchased it. First thing I noticed is the zipper is cheap. It doesn't glide smoothly, but catches and gets stuck virtually every time you use it. Not only when zipping and unzipping the coat itself, but even just moving the free zipper by itself, which makes connecting the two sides kind of a pain. Next, the fleece on the inside of the coat is very thin so it’s not a very warm jacket. But with wind and water protection it’s not a big deal. Last, the material gets snagged and pulled easily. For being a backpacker and rock climbing type jacket, it would last long on any trail with bushes with thorns, rocks or anything else you need to traverse. All in all, I think it is a nice coat, but because of the durability issue and the cost cutting on decent zippers this coat doesn't hold as much value as I had hoped for. COLUMBIA, you can do better! Buy this jacket if you are needing a light jacket to protect you from rain and wind and are not planning on go camping in it.
