Arc'teryx Gamma AR Softshell Jacket - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Best ever   01-29-09

This was my first soft shell ever and ever since I've compared how jackets should fit to this Gamma AR. The athletic fit (wide shoulders, triangle cut) just made me feel at home. This jacket gives you room on the shoulders and it doesn't pull your sleeves when you raise you arm. It does not have windbloc or any gore-tex so it breaths very well. Its perfect for spring or fall days. It layers very well for winter excursions. Perfect climbing jacket since it is short so that the jacket does not get caught in the belay device. I'm 5'7' 170 and I have a Large. LOVE IT. Do understand the DWR does wear off so you may need to retreat it every other year.

Patagonia R4 Fleece Jacket - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Sizing Info   01-25-09

I'm 5'7 175lb athletic frame with wide shoulders, I own a large. Its roomy enough for me to layer another 200 weight fleece under. Sizing is pretty Patagonia standard for mens. Personally I feel the large is a little bit bigger than an ARC large as well as a TNF & MHW Large. Its similar to a Marmot Large in terms of sizing. Its Patagonia quality and Patagonia pricing. The length is a little longer than I like but overall the jacket is bomber. Blocks out wind very well. On a recent ski trip where wind chill was (NEG) -40 degrees I wore two 1st layers, 200 weight windbloc pullover, THIS R4, then a GORE-TEX Shell. I was NOT toasty but comfortable enough to ski.

At First Try   01-19-09

Just got this a few days ago, sizing is typical. I'm 5'7" 175 with broad shoulders. I got the large and the athletic cut fits well. I still have room for a couple of layers. Sleeves are long enough that when I reach up, they don't pull. The microfleece liner is perfect so that the jacket feels substantial instead of a thin shell. The length is a little longer than a ARC Gamma sv. I got the Jacket in Raven, its BROWN. I really like the fact that this jacket has windbloc. CONS- THE ONLY thing I don't like about this jacket is the zipper and the ridge/tube right next to the zipper. The zipper construction makes the front of the jacket (ZIPPER) really stiff. If you look at the close up picture of the jacket (front zipper) you'll see the big tubes that run along next to the zipper on both sides of the zipper. This construction makes the jacket really stiff in the zipper only.

CRAZY Collar   01-12-09

Pros: Fit was good, almost athletic cut like Arc Gore Tex works really well VERY LIGHT Nice pockets NO problems with zipper DWR performed well CON: Could not get over that Darn Collar. DUDE its huge. EVEN when I unzipped the hood the collar was still gynormus. I do want to warn people about the sizing. I own 10 yr old Thunderlight and the Tech Sweater from Marmot which I still wear regularly. I own both in MEDIUM and they were loose on me. When I purchase the Superhero I got the Large and it fit me perfect. I'm 5'7' 175lb. with broad shoulder. Either Marmot resize their jackets by making them smaller like TNF, MHW, & ARC or the cut of this jacket is different. I couldn't get over the collar so I had to return it.

after some testing...   02-13-09

Overall its ok, it has windbloc so that is nice. The fit is outstanding for me (5'9" 180lb with wide shoulders - I bought the large). It fit nicely as an outer coat so that I can still layer under the jacket. MY MAIN problem is that the fabric sux eggs. The soft shell snags. My finger nail caught the fabric and pull a thread on the jacket so now I have a snag hanging off the coat. I do not recomend this jacket for rockclimbing at all. I would use my BC Shift Welder for climbing as that fabric is BOMBER!

Good for beginners too   01-29-09

I'm a beginner and this board is smooth and not difficult to learn on. The price is a little high but if you can get this on sale, along with the fact that you can grow with this board then it is worth the money.

Great Climbing Jacket   01-27-09

Perfect for climbing where the length is short enough that the jacket does not get caught in the belay device. The large is what I got, I'm 5'7 170 with broad shoulders so the athletic fit is just perfect. There's enough room that I can still layer and that I don't feel bulky.

Can't be better   01-27-09

It's light, durable, waterproof, windproof, easy to layer. What else can you ask for besides a lower price. These pants have gone skiing with me through out the country and canada and it's held up fabulously. The pockets are just the right size that forces you NOT overload the pockets. The side venting zips have come in handy. The belt helps you keep the pants up in you happen to have a bad wreck. Sizing - street pants I wear a 33 waist and 30-31 length. I got a Large. Its a bit baggy and the length a LITTLE long BUT overall it fits well. I'm just between sizes and the medium was a little tight around the waist especially when I start to wear stuff under the pants. If you can get a deal on these then I highly recommed these pants.

Pre 2007 much better   01-21-09

I agree with the guy who said the pre 2007 is much better. Also I want to add that this non cotton pants don't dry as quickly as other convertible pants I own. They are thicker and feels more substantial than others which causes it to retain the moisture. I would not use this for canoeing or anything wet. This is perfect for traveling and hiking. If wet it will take some time to dry. I'm 33 waist and I have a medium.

Vasque Velocity VST GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's DO NOT USE    This product is no longer available

OK but over priced   01-21-09

If you can find a deal, this is a good shoe. Sizing - it fits similar to an Adidas that I have, the GORE held up well. My only problem was that during the break in period the rubber toe cap ripped.

The North Face Denali Fleece Vest - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Old style better   01-21-09

I got mine from 15 years ago and I LOVE mine. The Vest is perfect for layering under a Jacket then a shell. I thought figure I might get a new one in a differnt color but when I tried out the new one, the SIZING is TOTALLY different. Aside from sizing the cut was different. It is longer now so that heat escapes from bottom. Now that TNF has gone mainstream this piece is geared more for wearing as a outer layer. I'll stick to my old Denali Vest where its shorter and the elastic around the waist keeps the heat where it should be. The old sizing allows me to use my old vest for any technical activities where as this new version does not because it is too bulky especially the length.

Vasque Clarion GTX Hiking Boot - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Sizing Info   01-21-09

I have flat feet as well as low volume feet. I own a size 9 and I've put on about 1000 miles on them. I love these boots, I know I need a replacement but can't seem to find one yet. Their sizing is similar to that of Adidas length as well as width. The ankle lock buckle really keeps your heel in place and the ankle support stays firm and supportive. MY ONLY problem is with the GORE-TEX construction that Vasque uses. The Gore-Tex liner is a true liner just like a sock. Which means that there's Gore-Tex under your feet so that if water get past the rubber sole as well as the midsole, the Gore-Tex is there to protect you.(sarcasm) Personally I don't believe there is a need to put Gore-Tex under your feet, its just another layer to keep your feet warm and cause you to sweat. Regardless, They are the best pair of Hiking Boots I've ever own.

Darn Collar   09-09-08

Its a terrific jacket, quality material, quality workmanship but who ever designed the stupid collar needs to go home. Collar is way too big with the hood in it and difficult if not impossible to fold down. I just zipped off the hood and use the jacket without a hood. If I need a hood, I'll wear a hat or a hardshell over this jacket.

High waist?   01-21-09

fit geared for people who like their pants to sit at the waist or higher. Patagonia pants traditionally fits that way.

OVER Rated   01-29-09

its ok but if you consider the price, its a bit over rated. 1) the seams on in the rear so it can chaff your butt. 2)Its suppose to wick moisture away from your body by dispersing moisture. Think about that for a minute, Do I want moisture from that area of my body spreading? Answer is NO. Again, it alright but nothing spectacular.
