Don't get me wrong, this is a great light for warmer weather outings and camping. The lamp has a good light output and an array of settings in a fairly tight package - but by todays standards, the battery life when using the luxeon bulb (approx. 10 hours at room temp) can't compete with the 80+ hour search beams in most headlamps. Save some batteries and try a newer lamp if you plan on using yours a good deal.

First, the good: variety off lighting options cover everything from bright enough to hike in the dark, to reading at night without bothering your tent-mates, decent battery life for smaller, proximity use LEDs. The bad: search beam will go through batteries pretty quickly by today's standards, housing is a little bulky, use of multiple buttons with heavy gloves on can be annoying. Bottom line: pretty good light, but battery life just is not what it could be if it would a higher output LED instead (12 hrs as opposed to around 70 at room temp.) Lamp is fine if you don't plan on using the search beam a lot, or using in super cold temps.
