This coat is the closest thing to perfect I've owned. My only complaint is that it's not entirely breathable (somewhat stifling when cross-country skiing for long periods of time) but very windproof even in the cold Iowa winters! It's all I've worn all winter, even downhill skiing in Colorado in January. The black is more of a purplish-gray, but as long as it keeps me warm (which it undoubtedly does) I'm happy! I would highly recommend this coat. I've done a lot of research and owned several softshells, and this is by far the best one on the market.
