I wanted to save weight so I wouldn't stress a knee that has too many miles on it. How often can you save 4 or 5 pounds by just buying a new pack? This pack worked great on a 5 day trip starting with 37lb. You have to pack with a little care because there is no frame, just a pad. I was over the 30lb gross weight but it held up fine. I'd need a larger pack for more than 5 days. In $ per pound saved, this pack is a bargain.
