Osprey Packs Talon 44 Overnight Backpack - 2600-2700cu in    This product is no longer available

Very Nice But Not Durable Enough   11-06-08

This is a quality made bag. It is perfect size for weekend excursions or 1 week long travels. There is a large main compartment inside, a large outer pocket (perfect for shoes or sandals), a water hydration pocket (which is right behind the back), 2 small waist/hip pockets on the waist belt (which are too small for any practical uses -- but they might be good for holding candy wrappings?), 2 side pockets (right by the compression straps) which are ideal for water bottles, 2 stretch woven pockets on the shoulder straps (which look like they're perfect for placing small cell phones), a removable top pocket with internal stash pocket, a plethora of bungee and additional tie-off points, sleeping bag straps (which are at the bottom), and a zippered lower section which allows you access to the bottom inside of the pack without having to rummage through the top. The pack looks great aesthetically (I got the Moonlight Blue version and I've already rec'd compliments from my mom and sister) and is functional. HOWEVER, I'm skeptical about the durability of this pack. The plastic buckles seem very minimal and thin, and I'm afraid to go hard on them. The stretch woven "cell phone" pockets on the shoulder straps also feel like they're going to wear holes through them over time. Most importantly the fabric of the bag seems quite thin as well. With that being said, I highly suggest not using this bag for any type of airport or overseas travels, where the bag might be subjected to harsh throws and frictional abrasions. This bag is only ideal for fast, on-the-go weekend or week-long trips and shouldn't be used and/or relied upon as a durable travelers bag, because it simply isn't designed to be. I would get something from Osprey's Travel Series if you're planning on using your bags for more rigorous purposes. The foam (such as on the shoulder straps and hip belt) is also much thinner than I had expected before it arrived. Otherwise this Talon 44 is very lightweight (2lbs 7oz) and perfect for short term, personal trips. Also, I am 5'9" and weigh about 140lbs: I got the size M/L 2600 cu inches (44L) one and it fits near perfect. I got this bag on sale, but I would only pay full price for it if it was a little bit more durable. To sum it up, this is my first Osprey bag and they have definitely made a good impression on me. Recommended!

Burton Ronin 2L Jacket - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

A little expensive   01-23-08

This jacket is a little expensive in my opinion. For the price the quality could've been a little better. They put the zippers upside down, the sewing is mediocre at best, and the zipper tabs are cheap. The only thing that was sweet about this jacket is the sweet snake print. But that's about it.

Element Bam Guitar Complete Skateboard    Read other reviews of this product

Meh, Decent   11-14-08

I got this board with the expected pretense that'd it come with a some type of carrying or guitar box [because that's exactly what the description says: "The Bam Guitar Complete Deck arrives at your doorstep in an Element guitar case (how clever)"]. But that was just a lie. Instead, the skateboard comes in a black Element cardboard box with the same ribcage graphics on it that's also on the bottom of the deck. When I got this from Whiskey Militia/Backcountry, the box wasn't even protected. Instead, they'd decided they'd just ship it in the original skateboard box itself; upon arrival the edge of the box was almost torn. After opening the box, I checked the board and discovered that the grip tape was separating at the areas just where the tip and tail start to curve up. Now, I don't know how long WM or BC have stored these skateboards (or where), but I am pretty sure a skateboard with fresh grip tape does not unpeel and separate from the deck. Every time I stepped onto the area where the grip tape was not in contact with the deck, it made an annoying "sticky, clicking" sound. Also, the wheels were cheap urethane wheels with "Element/Bam" graphics printed on them. The bearings are supposedly Abec-3 bearings, but they just look like cheap silver coloured bearings made with soft looking metal. The trucks are low profiled, but are decent quality. The bushings are I'd say soft to soft/mid flex. Not as soft as Silver S-Class trucks, but definitely not as stiff as Venture Lo's. All in all, don't expected this board to have been manufactured and pieced together very recently; they probably made this board at least a year ago, which is why the grip tape is separating and making annoying sounds. The wheels and bearings seem like no names too, so instead, I switched to Autobahn Turbocores and Abec-5 bearings. Overall, I wouldn't say this complete is a bad deal, but you could probably get a fresher one and also one with better wheels/bearings and such if you find it.

prAna Yeti Down Jacket - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Beautiful   11-07-08

This is one of the best quality jackets I've ever owned. It's great for the fall/autumn season and is most likely more suitable for street wear than as a technical layering piece. The materials that this jacket's made with is simply amazing. The hemp, soft suede, and wrist hems are all very nice to touch. There's also a waist cinch which made the fit of this jacket even better. The only cons I could think of is that the neck is a little tight when you zip it all the way up. And that the soft suede leather (i.e. around the zippers) is a little thin, and I worry about it wearing out prematurely. Lastly, the inner pockets are great but they too are not as durable as I'd like (too thin). As for sizing, I am 5'9" and 140lbs and I got the size small Yeti. The arms' length is super long (goes a little past my wrists), but the length of the jacket (from neck to waist) is just about right. The medium would've been too big for me, so the small was the most ideal size for a person like me at 5'9". This is my first Prana product and I am certainly impressed. I look forward to owning more Prana gear soon. This jacket is awesome.

Forum Kicker SLR Snowboard Boot - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Sweet Boots -- Oct. 24th/2008   10-24-08

Sick boots. I got these on sale so they are really worth the money in my case -- I got the Black/Black version. These boots are definitely not heavy; the midsole is very light and the upper section is not bulky. The outsole is grippy as well. At first the lacing system was stiff and took a little getting used to. But after figuring out which tab loosened which lace, and after pull them through the lace guides more, it became easier to get in and out. However, the liner didn't feel as "anatomical" as other boots (such as Burton). The insides of the liners didn't have much of a contoured, anatamical shape, and there were no J-bars to add to the heel hold. The "footbeds" (if you can even call it that) is actually an insole that looks like it's been cut half the length of a full length insole. It looks more like an orthotic arch supporter rather than an orthodox, bona fide, full length footbed. Anyway, the foot hold wasn't bad, but it was just odd that Forum would design such a thing. I also didn't really like the power-strap on the liner. It made it a hassle to get it out of the way every time I laced up. I don't even use the power-strap. Instead, I took it out of the tongue-guide and velcroed it together and shoved it into the side of the boot where it wouldn't get in the way so much. The "articulating" cuffs on this boot was pretty good; I'd say the flex would be a solid medium and it isn't too stiff nor too soft. Overall, these boots are an excellent alternative to "speed-zone" styled boots. If you don't want to spend a million bucks on Burton Ion's or SL-9's just so you can try the speed-lacing system, try a pair of these Forums. The lacing system is extremely similar, but at a cheaper price, the Forum SLR's are a way better deal.

Sweet & Stylish Down Jacket   02-02-08

Sweet jacket. The good stuff: The 550 down is warm as heck. I was sitting here at the computer and I'm getting hotter and hotter. No joke! I like the welded zippers. The sating lining inside is super comfy. The removable fur trim adds a lot of style. It's really warm. The down sides: The waist is cut really short. I wouldn't wear these to snowboard unless I had bib pants. This jackets cut is essentially more suitable for street wear. Also, the ID/pass pocket was made with cheap and thin plastic, and the stitching near the front main zipper is mediocre. Otherwise this jacket is great and I really like it.
