When I told my wife I ordered boots for her online she was a bit skeptical. Mind you, nearly everything we purchased in the last few years has been online, but mostly electronics and household items. Okay, back to the Chilkats review, which of course will be paraphrased accounts from my wife. These boots are awesome! They are the perfect combination of Style, Functionality, Brand Name (aren't we all a little materialistic?), and Price. Starting with style: personal tastes aside, these boots go well with nearly everything, save really formal attire. They can be worn every day and not just for hiking, tobogganing, etc. They add a nice lift without compromising safety, which is VERY important to the height-conscious vertically-challenged woman. As for functionality: The highest rating possible should be awarded here. They are light-weight yet durable, VERY, VERY comfortable (keeps feet snuggly and warm), water proof/resistant (can't remember which one is claimed, but my wife has walked through puddles without any leaks), the zipper is very well made and much more practical than laces (easy to zip, stays up, keeps water out), the soles crunch through snow like snow tires on a jeep and seem to have "kung-fu" grip on wet pavement and ice (disclaimer: proper safety measures should ALWAYS be exercised when walking on slippery surfaces). The brand name The North Face is very well recognized and respected - you can't go wrong here.
