Electric EG1 Chrome Goggle - Chrome    Read other reviews of this product

a full season of fun   07-11-05

I used these goggles all last season (incidentally, Utah’s longest season on record). I bought them for the Orange Chrome lens to use on super bright days and I love them. They also came with a free rose/bright pink lens which has been truly awesome on those flat light days. It was a little hard to swap lenses at first, but the more I did it, the easier it became. The chrome/mirror coating has a couple minor scratches in it now but I think it has held up really well considering the season of abuse. (It also fits perfect with Leedom helmets unlike another brand I had to return due to some beater forehead gap.)

DAKINE Reload Pack - 2900cu in    Read other reviews of this product

rant rant rant   09-24-07

It may have more space, but it's not as useful or user friendly as the Sequence. One of the dumbest things is that the straps do not have a shoulder adjustment (and this pack is meant to carry MORE than the sequence, and the sequence has shoulder adjustment) and they are attached to the back panel, not the main bag, so if your zipper were to fail (like every sequence zipper on any pack that actually gets used), the entire pack could just fall away from your back and yard sale all of your expensive gear all over the snow/dirt/pavement. This pack is not as good for skiers or boarders as they still don't have a good shovel/probe carry system or enough space for extra layers and food for any backcountry use. And let's be honest, if you are a ski photographer, you are going to be spending a lot of time in the backcountry looking for those untracked lines. The internal dividers kind of suck, too, as they seem to be sized wrong (with nothing in the pack, the middle two dividers, the ones that the lens attached to your camera body would be holding in, are right next to each other, so when you put a camera in there with it's lens, those dividers are just going to bow outward). Dakine should go talk to those Wheels & Wax kids and get their ish figured out.

Just WOW.   09-28-07

WOW. Not sure how you could not love this beacon. It will still take some practice, like any other beacon to nail down the multiple burials, but it's so cool that it can display the number of signals in a given distance, and the upgradeable software is prime. I bought mine last year before a couple upgrades came out and had the software updated, no problem. The included CD that explains how the DSP works more accurately , especially as you get into your pin point search is great too. The only thing i miss from my last ortovox M2 beacon was that the ortovox automatically turned on anytime you strapped it on which was a really nice feature, but as long as you and your buddies are in the habit of checking each other's beacons (and you should be every time you go out) then it shouldn't be an issue. Also, i think the ortovox M2 was easier access being worn closer to the waist where you could easily reach up and under your jacket without having to unzip your jacket to get your beacon and put it in search mode, but again, just practice with the DSP, i think the other features of the DSP far outweigh those two criticisms.

Smith Performance Lens Pack    This product is no longer available

2 out of 3 ain't bad   12-07-06

It's cool to get all three lenses at once, but I don't personally like the sensor mirror. It makes everyhing super super bright (which sounds great, I know) but it does not add any more definition to the terrain. I think my brain was even more confused at not being able to see differences in the terrain in flat light since it appeared to be so incredibly bright. I've found I much prefer the old classic RC36 for flat light days, and the platinum mirror is a great all around lens being that the mirror helps reflect a lot of the sun, and the rose color helps you out when you suddenly go from bright light to shade. I still wish they would make an orange lens with a mirrored coating for bluebird days, but I guess you can't have everything. (And as a disclaimer, I know some people LOVE the sensor mirror, so I could just be that one freak that doesn't, but you've been warned)

Yakima Little Joe 3 Bike Rack    This product is no longer available

the little bike rack that could   09-12-07

I already have two king cobras on my roof but wanted to be able to shuttle more bikes when needed. I bought this before a weekend trip that was nothing but shuttle rides and i am SO STOKED on this little guy. I would dare to say i like it better than the super joe my friend has. Since there are no "bumpers" to set your bike in, you have a lot more options of how to rack newer frame styles that often have small triangles between the top tube and the down tube. For my bike, this means i don't have to hang my bike where it will be sitting on any of my cables because i can fit the rack through that triangle. I also think that being able to nest the bikes closer together makes the whole thing really stable. I have actually been REALLY impressed with how stable it is.I generally take the extra strap lengths (from where the rack attaches to the car) and tie those to the frame of the bike to keep them on the rack nice and tight, but buying some cheap bungee cords is not a bad idea either. As long as you have the bikes tied on tight though, they don't sway an inch while driving. Bottom line, it's not about girth. Best little bike rack (especially for the money) and actually preferred over the beefier looking racks.

Pacific Outdoor Equipment All Out Lite Sleeping Pad - Women's     Read other reviews of this product

tastes great, less filling (actually, less $$ from the wallet!)   07-01-07

I bought this for a recent backpacking trip to avoid taking my over-sized car camping pad. I was originally looking to get the Thermarest Pro Lite because I know a lot of people who love theirs, but I really couldn't justify the price of the prolite. I came across this POE pad and liked the sound of it, and the price! I have only used it a couple nights but i couldn't be happier. I even fell asleep on it at home by accident the first night i had inflated it before i was going to pack it the next day. The baffles on the side that are suppose to keep the heat in also help to keep you in the middle of the pad (and i usually have issues sliding off the sides of my pads -hence my oversized car camping pad- and even when i was a little 12 year old i would fall off, but i don't fall off the sides of the All Out Lite. i haven't used it enough to report on durability over time or inflated it enough to speak to it's self inflation but will report back when i have. But so far, i can't see why anyone wouldn't want this pad for backpacking!

The North Face Friction Belt    Read other reviews of this product

thumbs down for the buckle   12-10-06

I love that this is a wide cloth belt, since most cloth belts are skinny and don't fill up normal belt loops. The downfall is the belt buckle. It does not stay tight. Even if you aren't wearing the belt to keep your pants up, it loosens up and gets kind of annoying. If they would use a different buckle in the future it would rock.

My exception to wool   12-09-06

For the most part I've converted all of my base layers to wool, but this polypro one I still wear. I actually wore it for a couple weeks off and on without washing on a ski trip to Argentina this summer, and I expected it to stink like no other. But I guess Helly Hansen's antimicrobial stuff actually works. (And I had already worn the top for a ski season, so it wasn't exactly new and had already been washed a ton.) Sizing is on the loose side but not loose enough to really want to size down at all.

Perfect for winter   12-07-06

Wow, this is my new favorite sweater! I love the versatility of the buttons and how they are attached through a thick ribbon. I was a little skeptical of the fur in the hood, but it's so soft, and I've found myself using it to keep warm, and for general dome comfort. The front pockets are great, too. I also love the thickness of the sweater, it's perfect for winter.

I am a Slut!   09-28-07

Didn't think I would really love this T as much as I do. There must be something about the organic cotton, it stretches just enough, but not too much, and is really one of the most comfortable T's I own. And it's really funny to see people's reactions when your hair is covering the "Gear" side of the text and they have to do a double take of your "Slut" shirt and then guys realize it says "GEAR slut" and they are suddenly in love. How -YOU- doin?

add one straw, and shake violently   09-13-07

i will be honest, i bought this bottle to use at work and have not really put it "through the ringer" outside at this point. BUT, you need to stay hydrated if you play outside on a regular basis and having a straw for some reason helps me to drink a lot more water during the day than if i just have a wide mouth Nalgene and have to unscrew it all the time, dump water down my shirt, or let dust and whatever other randomness flies through the air fall in there if i leave it open. I have at least tested the leak-proof-ness by turning upside down and shaking violently. seriously, it was violent. And mine passed that test.

DAKINE Drafter Bike Pack 70oz Quick Disconnect - Women's - 700cu in    Read other reviews of this product

Perfect for all my rides   07-01-07

I needed a pack to carry a few more items than my shuttle pack would allow so i picked up the Drafter. The main pocket is big enough that i can put my collapsible Platypus "platy bottle" in their for those long rides when you're gonna need extra water and it also has inside organization pockets for tools, hand pump, energy bars, keys, etc. The hydration bladder made by Nalgene is my favorite bladder yet, i will use this bladder for hiking in larger packs too. It's way easier to open than the camel back bladders (i once had to use pliers cause my old camel back one was so stuck on there!) and the detachable tube is a really nice touch for refilling. The lock mechanism on the bite valve is nice and easy to use too. Flip it straight to lock, turn it 90 degrees to open. I also like the helmet pouch, it's nice to have place for the helmet vs rattling around in the back of the car, and i guess there are some people who would take it off for climbing (not me, but whatever) so it would be nice for that. I put my arm guards in the helmet pouch last night for the climbing part of our ride and was able to easily pull them out the top without removing the pack from my back. I think shin guards would be too big to hold in there however and would end up hitting the back of your head if they even stayed in. I haven't used my shuttle pack since i got the drafter. It's been perfect for all my rides (usually a bunch of climbing with a nice downhill payoff is my style) but sometimes get suckered into longer cross country rides and will most likely use it for some lift served as well. Oh yeah, and it looks way cooler than any camelback style!

If it ain't broke don't try to fix it.   07-01-07

I have the first model of the SyncroFLOAT and have loved them from day one. The SyncroFLOAT 2 however has not been as great for me. They do not feel as comfortable from the get-go, and they are not as comfortable while jogging as the original SynchroFLOAT, not to mention my pinky toes got "pins and needles". I'm continuing to use them for now to see if they just need more breaking in than my other SyncroFLAOT, and i'm trying to experiment with different lacing, but the laces are really short and doing something as simple and common as the runners loop leaves very little lace left to actually tie your shoes (and you can certainly forget about any kind of double knot).

easy removal for less wind drag   07-01-07

i've had this type of mighty mounts for 3 different cars now (they were all outback sports, but different years have slightly different sized bars) and for two different bike racks (an older one similar to the raptor and the new king cobra). Using them with the king cobra has been great. Really easy to attach to the cross bars and equally as easy to attach the bike rack. I used to leave my bike rack on ALL the time, but this set up is easy enough to remove that i can take it off or put it up in about five to ten minutes for non-bike-related road trips when i want less wind drag.

Black Diamond Shiva Alpine Touring Boot - Women's    This product is no longer available

LOVE at first sight   01-16-09

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE these boots so far. The ONLY thing I have done to them is to put my own footbeds in them and wear them around my house for a couple hours before skiing on them, and the first day on snow was awesome. I tried on the Scarpa Domina, Scarpa Diva, and Garmont Xena and NONE OF THEM fit. Mostly it was a problem with my amazon calves. All of those boots had the buckles moved to their biggest settings and it was still a HUGE struggle to close them only to lose all blood flow. I was starting to think I would never be able to have a dynafit set up if I wanted to. I tried on the Shiva and it fit pretty close, AND it had two more spots to move the buckles over (i ended up moving them one bigger). They were hard to get into at first with the BOA lace over the tongue and all the heel padding, but I quickly discovered all you have to do is pull up on the tongue and your foot slides right in (there is a band of elastic over the base of the tongue). If you put it in walk mode first it's even easier. I was skiing a Salomon Rush 9 previously (claimed to be a 90 flex) and had spent mucho dinero on getting them fitted. The Shivas ski just as well if not better out of the box (with my own footbeds) and I would say they have a similar flex (BD says these are 110). I have about 20 days on them so far and the liners seem to have packed in a bit so I am glad i did not get them heat molded. If it becomes a problem i will surely update my review. Our snowpack has been super sketch until just recently so I have not taken them out on any tours, just skiing in-bounds (which should give you a good idea of how awsome they are for the pure pleasure of skiing), but will also update after a few hikes. Final thoughts... the buckles are super smooth, and my feet are super happy. I want to go skiing now just so I have an excuse to use my new boots!

Thicker than expected, but nice and warm   12-07-06

I would not put these in the category of lightweight as the website states. They seem at least midweight and not as thin as other Lorpen socks that I have been using. That being said, we've had some really really cold days recently. So even though these socks are a little thicker than I usually like for skiing in, I used them for a recent tour and my toes stayed nice and warm all day.

Still great, but personally loved last year's version a lot better   04-10-09

Still a solid choice, but last year's version was a lot better. They are both long which is great for a base layer top so it is less likely to ride up, but this newer one is tighter in the hip/butt area which is not as functional for most women (hello people, women have hips!) so it tends to ride up a little anyway, despite the length. I have to try and stretch this one out a little before wearing it unlike the one I purchased last year which is still a perfect fit. Last year's color choices were a lot better too, loved the charcoal one especially and do not like having such light colors in my base layers (this year's). It would have been nice to have one darker color option available. And normally I would be all over a green option, but that "guacamole" looks like vomit. Sorry guys! To end on a high note, i still love the material and the weave they use. A nice flat smooth finish to this merino that is more like a jersey knit (but not as stretchy as cotton jersey) and good flat lock seems. And performance of the merino during activity is stellar.

no venting as stated, otherwise good   11-11-08

i like the fit of these, nice and relaxed, but i was really bummed to find out they do not have ANY vents as stated in the tech specs. I have had previous year's models of the same pant that also had inner leg vents, so i assumed they would have them by that fact as well. But no. They are really harshing my ventilation mellow. Aside from that, the fit is great, nice and loose, the VELCRO on the cargo pocket is burley and because they have the waist adjuster tabs i don't have to wear belt if i don't want to. I have been wearing my last pair for 3 years and they finally gave up on keeping the water out, so it's nice to have a new pair that is waterproof again.

Still my go-to favorite. I have an MSR hubba hubba too, but save that for when i really need the ultra light experience. This tent has served me well and i think it's the best design (two doors so you're not stepping on anyone to get out, two vestibules for each person's gear, pockets around the inside, simple two pole design). It has held up quite well in the rain too. Recently i was up in Idaho and it rained so hard it woke me up twice, but the fly stayed off the tent walls and everything inside was nice and dry.

the go-to gotama   09-30-08

This ski is still my go-to-ski, or "daily driver" as someone else put it. going into year number three riding a pair of gotamas. Every once in a while I wish i had something fatter for those uber deep days, but as far as a one quiver resort ski for living in Utah, this is my true love. It's funny...sometimes i get comments on the lift from out of town skiers saying "ohh, you brought out the fat skis today.." and they seem shocked when i tell them, "no, actually I ski these every day." They will rail groomers when you need them too. Some people mentioned light enough for touring, but i prefer a much lighter ski for touring (i carry a small boat load of camera gear though, so i try to keep everything else as light as possible). Maybe for side-country touring, I could see the use?

Solid   07-24-08

I had been using a dakine heli pack for day hikes and was very unhappy with it (harsh on the shoulders, zippers hard to access). The Talon is so much better. It is lighter to start with, the straps and back panel are light and airy, great for hot summer days, the zippers are plenty easy to access and use, etc. Plenty of room for a layer, water, sandwich, first aid kit, etc. It's just perfect for day hikes.

Pearl Izumi Symphony Full-Finger Glove - Women's    Read other reviews of this product

21 days later....   06-13-08

I now have 21 rides on these gloves and have found a few breakdowns now. The strip of padding that runs along the base of the fingers has gotten worked pretty good. It is hard to describe but has kind of folded in half beneath the fabric of the palm which results in lumpier padding. The wrist is meant for skinnier wrists and the velcro is not strong enough to make up for that, so it comes undone often. There are things I still like about these gloves, such as the mesh fabric between the fingers and the abundance of nose-wiper fabric on not just the thumb, but the index finger as well. Those parts are great, but I think I will buy a different glove next time on account of the padding issues. I would still recommend them for a more casual rider, but not if you are riding 4+ days a week.

messed up greatness   04-07-08

they changed the waist band and the fit on these. I have 2 older pairs, a large and an XL that both fit great. I actually have to fold over the waist on the XL, but i have always preferred that because it reduced the whole "sausage-waist" effect of most base-layer waist bands. But the XL pair i just bought are smaller than my old size Large and the waist band is skinny and tight and really uncomfortable. I am SO SO sad that I will have to return these as I love the old ones so much.

make it useful   09-24-07

i guess it's cool that Dakine sells the camera block separately, but they should really add a pocket or two for holding things like extra batteries and memory cards. Nothing too fancy, but just some pockets on the inside of the zipper flap/panel (like the back panel in the sequence) would be great. It has a shoulder strap so you can use it by itself, but without being able to hold essential peripherals, having the use of the shoulder strap is pretty bogus. as far as size, it's made to hold a professional SLR or DSLR with one lens attached and 1 to 3 more lenses (or 1 - 2 plus flash and light meter) depending on the size of those lenses).

Sierra Designs Womens Solar Flare Sleeping Bag: 15 Degree Down    This product is no longer available

comfy and dry.   07-01-07

I've been using this bag since last fall. The 800 fill is really comfy and it kept me nice and warm on a frigid desert night in october the first time i used it and was really happy about that (i know i would have been a frozen popsicle in my old synthetic winter bag). Since then i've used it a bunch in Utah, Fruita, CO and recently in Idaho. We were camped pretty closed to a river in Idaho with no fly and I woke up to my tent mate asking if i was wet from the dew/condensation, but the drizone fabric worked perfectly to keep me dry inside and keep the down from getting wet. A few things to note... a) The zipper tends to get stuck and does not zip as smoothly as they intended. They are suppose to have "snag free zipper tracks" but mine seems to get hung up on the baffle quite a bit. b)The "Regular" is made to fit someone up to 5'5" and i am exactly 5'5". The long is made for 5'11" which seemed excessive to me, but i now wish i had gone with the long for 2 reasons. For one, when my toes are pointed in the bag they are tight against the bottom of the bag, and second, since i am not a "skinny minny" (about size 14/16 up top) i would have loved the extra shoulder room in the long. I tend to end up sleeping on my side or stomach a lot too and would love to have the extra wiggle room, though i'm trying to learn to sleep on my back without moving as much, lol c) The Bag comes with two straps on the bottom to go around your sleeping pad to keep you in place, but if you're like me and you move to your side these are useless because the pad with go with you or keep you from moving. If you can sleep on your back without moving, then im sure they are great. Overall the good outweighs the bad and i really love this bag. (And the green fabrics/patterns are a really nice touch!)

Helly Hansen Veloria CIS Ski Jacket - Women's    This product is no longer available

I am in LOVE with this jacket   10-02-06

Helly Hansen claims their Helly tech fabric is better than Gore Tex and I think they might be right! Water totally beads up and rolls off. I usually wear just the shell and a base layer (I ski in Utah where it's usually not super frigid) and the minimal insulation is perfect, but it's really easy to layer when the temps drop. My only complaint is the inside of the neck could be softer, and the neck could be a little larger and higher so that you have more to hide your face in and protect your face in during those storm skiing days. So i've taken to wearing a scarf when it's nuking outside, but otherwise this jacket is awesome.

I bought two of these for my bike and put them on, front and rear and was stoked on the first ride which was largely climbing over rock, but for other trails and anything downhill, i wasn't as convinced. The front one ended up getting a huge hole in it, and then exploded when we tried to put a tube in it. So i replaced the front with my previous maxxis high rollers, and still have the continental on the back. I like how this set up rides a lot better now.

Yakima King Cobra Bike Mount    This product is no longer available

gets the job done, watch for a couple things   05-17-07

overall this is a great rack to have, but there are a couple things Yakima could improve on. For one, the locking red bolt up front to keep the front wheel holder in place will loosen while you drive. After driving the highway for 4 or 5 hours and then down a gnarly dirt road (driving pretty slow too as there were infinite amounts of potholes), my bike went crooked in the wheel holder, made a clunk sound from above, and almost fell off the roof. In their defense i think there is a disclaimer in the instructions not to drive on such roads, but c'mon.... Most people with the bikes they need this rack for will be driving dirt roads at some point. So I found out the hard way that you need to tighten that every time you stop, or stop and check if it's been a while and the road is about to get bumpier. Also, the bikes do seem to sway a lot at lower speeds around town. I've never had any problems with that by itself, but the noise of them on the roof is a little unsettling sometimes. Other than that, this rack has been great. I have a lefty fork so it's harder to use a fork mount anyways, and it's really nice to not deal with taking off the front wheel. Getting the bike up and in the rack is relatively easy as well. It's nice that the back portion of the front wheel hold rocks up and into place automatically as you roll the bike forward and into the front hold. That way you don't have to balance the bike in place while you're messing with attaching and locking the rack.

A color FYI on the "Anthracite"... it looks gray under tungsten or florescent light indoors but it looks blue outside in daylight. In case that is some huge deciding factor for anyone. It's like the horse of a different color from the wizard of oz.

not quite   10-02-08

these don't hold up quite as well as the jet boil ones. they like to fold up on you while you're trying to use them and the plastic is a bit too pliable in general to be as effective as they could be. for a few extra bucks i think the jet boil utensils are the way to go.

i wasn't sure if this was a hard plastic or a collapable plastic, but i was recently camping with a friend who had one and found out it is the collapsible one. Now i'm getting one for sure. I hate having to buy water on the way to the campsite and using all that extra plastic. Stoked to have a refillable one

great little bag.   09-30-08

this is a great little purse/messenger bag, it is kind of between the two on size. when you lift up the flat there is a great organizer pockets for ID and cards, i was using mine for business cards as i would still keep my credit cards, etc in my wallet inside. the main pocket is big enough for an exta layer if it is a thin layer, like a thin merino wool layer or something. Not saying everyone walks around with one of those, but to give you an idea it would be big enough for that plus your wallet, keys, cell phone, checkbook, and a few extras. Not huge, but big enough. Also the strap gets plenty long to go over the shouler/across the chest style.

new go-to bottoms   09-30-08

these are great, boot top or 3/4 length is really the way to go for skiing/snowboarding. I had been sold on the icebreaker 3/4 bottoms but when i ordered a new pair they had this new tighter (sausage roll inducing) waist-band. These smart wools do not, they have a wrapped comfortable waist band. So these will be my new go-to bottoms. they also don't seem to stretch out as much as the ice breakers did.

great for biking and hiking, relaxed fit   09-30-08

I also bought the gin color and i am brunette and think it goes great. it is NOT lime green. I would say it might be a little lighter than the picture, but it all depends on how color calibrated your monitor is. anyway, i love the T, i wear it mostly for biking and sometimes for hiking. It has a nice relazed fit (i HATE tight body hugging tech Tees) this has nice contours and wicks well. I know some people think Columbia is lame, but their Titanium line is awesome and such great prices. I am considering getting another one, i wish they other two colors weren't so pastel pink and yellow. A blue would be nice.

nice and light. i wanted a straw style drinking top but this one is still nice. actually its nice to just pour it in and not have to worry about dumping it (like wide mouth nalgene) or needing to suck on a straw (camelbak bottles). not sure if the plastic top is going to hold up in the long run. the hinge already seems a little loose.

I only have two rides on these gloves so far, but being the first two of the season where everything tends to hurt, i can say at least my hands don't. I am a big fan of the gel padding. Also, they seemed a bit on the snug side as I started that first ride, but seem to be perfect fit now and i love the soft nose-wipe material and the fact that it is not just the thumb but the index finger too. Nice touch.

still going and going   05-12-08

My Xen is still going strong after two seasons (no head crashes yet, knock on wood, so i don't need to replace it). It fits great, the adjustable part is a breeze, and I can't remember ever feeling like my helmet was too hot, so the vents must be doing their job (I ride all over from the mountains to the hot Utah desert, just for reference). (in contrast my last helmet -a Bell- was in fact a sweat-fest). This one has a really nice style too. If i was going to get a new helmet, I wouldn't even look at anything else, I would just get a new Xen.

passes the stink test   01-21-08

i went ahead and gave this the test of a good 4 or 5 days of wear before washing (including one epic 12 hour drive in a snowstorm). I can't say it smelled like roses cause it didn't. but it didn't smell at all, so it passes the test. as far as fit, it's great. if you go a few days it will stretch a little bit, but not beyond pure comfort. and the fabric/weave of this merino is really nice. To compare it to an older icebreaker oasis crew that i have (which is awesome, don't get me wrong), the icebreaker is more of a fine rib knit and the backcountry merino is more of a smooth weave, so it feels nicer to the touch. it's the only top i've worn skiing since i bought it.

Photo is slightly misleading, the color looks like a heather green, but it actually is olive green with tiny horizontal stripes. The fabric also looks like the shirt would be fitted with some stretch, but it's not like that either. As the previous review states, it is a bit wide and short for it's intended purpose, however i hate skin tight tech T's, so i'm still gonna keep this as my back up for when everything else is already in the pile of dirty clothes on my floor.

replaced the reefs   09-13-07

I've worn through part of the top layer on my reefs but couldn't find the same/similar ones from reef to replace them with, so i decided to try these and cross my fingers that they would be as comfy and mold as well to my feet as the reefs and they have done just that. I got the brown ones, a lot of people have complimented them as well. ALso, i wear a 9.5 and the size 9 has worked out perfect (it seemed a tad small at first, but since they mold like the reefs, the foot bed kind of spreads out a bit, so now they are perfect)

Bad for hiking, AWESOME for rivers.   07-01-07

So far i've tried these sandals on a few short hikes, an overnight backpack trip through a gulch that requires walking in an average of 5 cm of water, and on a couple river trips. For general hiking, i do NOT like them. Little rocks get in there and they can't get out because of the toe protection and I would have to stop and take them off all the time to remove the rocks (i've tried to work out a few methods to shake them out, but most of the time you need to stop to extract them). I had the same problem in the gulch hike, and ended up hiking barefoot most of the time in the water when the surface was mostly sand and small rocks, although for areas that required hiking around waterfalls on slickrock, i felt the traction was pretty good. For rivers they are, of course, GREAT! Used them on the green river, and two portions of the payette river. We dumped our boat on one occasion and i was never fearful for my toes/feet and walking through the rocky river bed whenever we were launching, or stopping for lunch, or whatever, was never a problem, in fact you can move fast with more confidence (than in open toe sandals) in times when you need to get to shore in a hurry. i'm rating them at 4 because i'd give them a 1 or 2 for hiking and a 5 for river use and i know they are mostly intended for river use, but they've been hyped up a lot for multi use on trails (make sure your trails are ultra smoooooth or paved and they might be fine).

It's the Remix   12-07-06

It was nice to finally see this whole movie after being distracted at the premier and missing half of it. It moves at a slower pace than previous MSP movies, and is perhaps (as much as it pains me to say it) not their strongest offering ever. They had more story and narration going on, so it was a little less of your standard music and ski porn. That being said, it still does not suck, and you get the athlete version, too, the "Hit List Re-Mix" which is actually better than the original and totally worth buying.

The Helly tech fabric holds up to their claims and is super waterproof, even after it's first season of use, it's still going strong. ultra light   02-22-06

I just got these skis (173cm) and decided to put my Freerides on them since my previous touring skis are dead and LIKE WHOA, I can’t believe how light this setup is! (Even lighter than my previous set up which was Pocket Rockets). Even if you're not touring and just throwing them over your shoulder for a quick hike at the resort, SOOO light. I took them out on some groomers the other day as well and found them to be perfectly stable at speed. The only drawbacks I could see for some people might be (a) the larger radius, but being so light and skiing them shorter, it's not so much of a problem, and (b) being that they are so light, it is sometimes deceiving as to what kind of chop/crud/tracked pow you can actually plow through with them, though I’m sure my brain will figure it out the more I ski them.

soooooo soft   07-10-05

The fabric in this tank is so soft and comfortable next your skin and it's hard to find a tank that is shaped like this; (higher coverage in front that angles into small straps at the neck) hardly anyone makes this style and I love it. The only drawbacks for me are that the fabric is pretty form-fitting (but that’s just a personal thing) and has started to pill a little bit after wearing skiing 3 to 4 days a week in the spring (which could be more of a result of friction with wearing a fleece over it), but it's so comfortable that I really don't care.

this is normal "girl" sized, don't get stuck   09-24-07

My wrists are on the big size (as far as most women's watches are concerned, still small compared to men's watch sizes) and this watch almost got stuck on my wrist. So i have to disagree with the previous review about these running big. I've tried on plenty of Nixon women's watches and all the metal or fixed size bands are too small, so I would say this one is just the same as the rest of their women's sizing.

if you need a goggle for low light cloudy blizard-type days, the crowbar with the H.I. Yellow has been perfect for that. soft   09-30-08

i measure 7 inches from tip of middle finger to wrist and 4 inches across my palm (8 inches around the palm), and i wear a size Large. i find the base of the fingers to be a little on the snug side but maybe i haven't worn them in enough yet (i have another pair of PI gloves that don't have this problem, so maybe i am forgetting about the break-in period). I like the big cush padding in the base of the palm and the reinforcement at the base of the fingers. I wish they would put padding in that part that doesn't fall apart like their other gloves (i.e. similar design to the padding they did use in the palm) but that's just me. I don't see why we have to assume calluses are normal when they can be prevented with a little bit of padding (they just need to make the padding quality.... the best gloves i ever had were a pair of Scotts but those seem REALLY hard to find in the US for some reason.) anyway....on another high note, the soft fabric for the nose-wipe thumb seems extra soft on these, real nice as we head into fall with cooler riding and the occasional need for a nose wipe from the cold.

Did not take long at all to break it. I love the wide strap, it is soft and comfy on the skin and i love how it holds your feet in. Even with tubes i have had trouble getting a changed flat to the right pressure. i was stoked on it at first, but after using and needing it (and not being able to rely on it anymore) i think i will buy a different one next time.

smooth   09-29-08

a little more fitted than i was hoping, but still a good fit, not too tight. I find it realy comfy for hiking in. it's hard to see the pattern in the pic, but it has a pattern to it (i thought it was some kind of waffle weave in the photo, but it's a smooth fabric, with a pattern).

The North Face Base Camp Duffel Bag - 250 - 9070cu in    Read other reviews of this product

good so far   07-23-08

Got the Medium for weekend camping trips to bike/hike/canyoneer etc. So far it's been the perfect size. I can fit my sleeping bag, pad, and camp pillow inside along with the clothes i need so I don't have so many random things strewn about the car on the way down, and I'm also not taking up more than my fair share of cargo space from friends I travel with. I've only been using it half a summer so I can't say exactly how well it stands up over time, but it seems pretty bomber and I'm not afraid to drop it in the dirt/sand/whatever around camp. Like one other review I read, the plastic tab holding the small bit of cord to the zipper pulls came off which makes the one zipper harder to open/close. Not the biggest deal, but I think something like that should have lasted a LOT longer. I wasn't sold on the backpack straps at first and the lack of a regular shoulder strap, but i live in an upstairs apartment, and the backpack straps have proven quite useful and comfortable for getting my crap down to the car and loaded.

gripption   05-21-08

I bought the size large and found the fingers to be a bit snug. Decided to get the mens Burton liners instead, but I don't think I have typical female hands. The seams could be a little more stream-lined, too, but the grippy goat palm is great. One of the best grippers on a liner i've seen (and i've gone through plenty because I use them for shooting photos in the winter).

good deal   05-21-08

Comfortable and relatively lightweight. I can't tell if these vent scoops really work or not because the temps outside have been so perfect this far in the season, but it seems like the shorts would not be overly hot either way. The pockets are nice (the ones on my other Oakley shorts are huge and I think these are more the perfect size. There is one zip pocket on each side for reference). The only downfall is that they don't come with a chamois/liner but if you have another at home, then it's all good.

i call them my "lisa-lobe little kid glasses"   05-21-08

A lot smaller than I expected, and as said before the lenses are small. I can see the frame when i wear them, though once I get riding and I am focused on the trail ahead it doesn't bother me as much, it would just be nicer to have fuller eye coverage for dirty mountain biking. I have been using them for biking though because i need the darker lens than what I had. On the plus side they are really light. Also, they have just that small amount of rubber on the arms which is nice, because it's a lot harder for that to get stuck in my hair like other glasses that cover the entire end of the arms with rubber. And the scoop vents work great (i bought these because i have another pair of Spys with the scoop vents and already knew i liked those). I would recommend these most for girls with small faces who get after it.

small is all   05-12-08

I was able to fit my 15 degree 800 fill down sleeping bag perfectly into the size small and after cranking down a little the whole thing fit perfectly into the bottom on my day pack. I decided to use the size medium one that I bought for my MSR Hubba Hubba tent and found that without putting the poles in, i could have easily used a small for my tent as well. I will probably buy a few more of these since they are so light and so helpful in packing. The only minor complaint I could say is that the sil-nylon is not the most durable fabric in case you end up strapping one of these to the outside of your pack for some reason you would want to be careful of what you might brush up against.

less weight, less price, and probably better performance   05-12-08

i tried on a bunch of lightweight down jackets to use for layering, winter camping, ski touring, emergency layer, etc and this one came out on top. It was half the weight and a lot less money than the others I looked at and it packs down smaller, too. After using it I am stoked that I made the right choice. I find myself wanting to wear it for any reason i can find and my roommate has threatened to steal it, too. The only thing I could possibly complain about is that the arms seems to be on the big side, but it doesn't bother me at all (and might be good to know for those tall people out there).

Plush   05-12-08

i was looking for some new gloves to get me to the end of the season and these have so far been perfect. The leather on these is buttery smooth, i wasn't expecting that for the price, and the inside is just as soft as the Cloudveil troller glove. I was looking at getting some Hestras until I saw these and the killer price. I can't say if they will hold up to the elements yet as well as a more expensive Gore Tex glove, but at least they are the most comfortable straight out of the box that I have ever had.

thumbs up   05-12-08

Recently I needed to fit an overnight trip into a daypack and this bowl came in super handy. It was the last thing to get shoved in, and it was no problem. I think it's even bigger than my old camping bowl that didn't fold up which was awesome for containing all my dinner noodles. And since it can withstand up to 300 degree temps i left my mug at home, too. I haven't given the cutting board base any action yet, but it looks bomber.

If i could be in love with a pair of goggles, these would be them.   09-24-07

These goggles rule, have used them a full season and still love them. The only time I have fog problems is when I am stopping all the time to take photos in extremely cold sub-artic-like temps (and I have fog problems with EVERY goggle when I am shooting pics in sub-zero temps) They fit perfect with my Giro G10 (size M) helmet. They seem to be the Scott counterpoint to the Smith Phenom, and these fit my helmet better than the Phenoms do (which leave an unsightly beater gap).

Oakley Ballistic 2.6 Short - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

good but not for me   09-24-07

i liked the Oakley MTB 3.6 shorts a ton, so i decided to try these. I bought the inka with no photo assuming it would be a dark blue (you know, like an ink pen or something) but they are very pale yellow) i don't know why Oakley would make mtb shorts in while or pale yellow, you're just gonna end up looking like you've soiled yourself. anyway, the difference in these shorts is the fabric is a little lighter than the MTB and also stretchy-ish. reminds me of a thin softshell fabric, which is comfy, and it sounds like it's been holding up for other. The other thing though, is that the chamois liner is attached to the shell unlike the button-in design of the MTB 3.6 which is a lot better for fit (these end up bunching on me cause i'm a girl and i have hips and junk in the trunk, so the free floating shell over the liner is way better than being attached and having to hang from the same place) and while i'm here, why is it so hard for anyone to make mountain bike shorts for girls that aren't patterned after daisy dukes?

you don't need to see my butt in spandex   09-13-07

so far these shorts have been great. I also tried the ballistic 3.6 and there was some weird fabric bulginess around the front waist/hips area, but these lay flat down the front. The front vents are nice to have too, pretty much leave those open all the time. it's also nice to have the option of attaching the under short to the outer short, and the inner adjustments are great too. I was skeptical about an Oakley chamois pad at first, i admit, but these have become my favorite shorts. (also, the under shorts are nice and breathable, quasi mesh-like)

Zipper Woes   07-01-07

most people i know who have had this pack for a few years have had to fix or replace their zippers. Well it finally happened to mine. I have used it for two ski seasons and was recently using it this summer shooting pictures are our local water ramps when i noticed the zipper was messed up. Mine came un-stitched on the top right corner of the back panel. SO MANY PEOPLE love this pack, and SO MANY PEOPLE have had zipper issues. When will Dakine figure it out??????? otherwise i still love it for what it is, but wish it came in a lite gray or something that wouldn't attract as much heat as the black. a better suspension system would be nice too. anyway....wanted to update on the zipper issues.

great for photogs   07-01-07

i bought these for shooting photos and i'm stoked on them. A little bit thicker than my previous mountain hardwear ones, but the grippy stuff on the fingers/palms makes up for it. I love that they threw some style/design stuff in as well instead of just making them all black with black gripper dots. They are also perfect for driving in the winter when you leave the mountain and your steering wheel is sub-zero, the grippy stuff is perfect for that (any other lines slip too much and won't let you have good control of the wheel). I bought some Outdoor Research overmitts to wear with these for the ultimate photographer mitten system and have been super stoked on it.

I have the green and love the color, love the stretch side panels, love the high neck, love the feel on the inside of the fabric, love the fit (it's a fitted cut/style but it's not tight at all, which is perfect). sweaty feet, sounds like farts, not so awesome   07-01-07

the dress code at my work is pretty casual but i have to wear shoes that cover my toes and heels. I thought these would be a great alternative to sandals, but i can't stand wearing them for more than about 5 minutes. They just make my feet sweat. Even when im not moving and just driving my car, they sweat. Maybe if they had more air holes they might be better? They also squeak a bunch when you walk in them, sometimes creating a squeaky fart sounding noise. If you walk through a quiet room and you embarrass easily, well, be careful with your footsteps.

This tank is definitely a new favorite of mine this summer. It's vaporwick, but it feels like jersey knit cotton, so it's really really comfortable. I wore it first for two days of backpacking and was really stoked on it (no issues under the pack straps). Since then i've used it for morning/evening jogs, the Wasatch Back Relay, and will more than likely use it for biking, too. I might even buy another one. I also really love that TNF is making technical clothes with cool asymmetrical print details.

Platypus Platy Bottle DO NOT USE    This product is no longer available

Versatile, light, space saving, good back-up, awesome, etc.   07-01-07

I bought one of these so i could take back-up water supply for long, hot, and dry bike rides. The size/shape will fit in the main compartment of my hydration pack much better than a nalgene or other round water bottle and when it's empty you can fold it up and not have the clunk factor of still carrying an empty traditional water bottle. I have also used it for backbacking where it is equally great for the same reasons. I bought the regular top figuring i would empty it into my hydration bladder when i needed more water, but i'd like to get a sport top version as well for time when i'll end up drinking straight from the Platy bottle itself.

I guess they tweaked the 08 a little from the 07, but the 07 is a great ski. It took me a couple weeks to get used to skiing them coming from a really really light sugar daddy/freeride set up to a beefier gotama with rossi alpine binders. But after that break in period, i am IN LOVE. They will ski over pretty much anything, nice and stable.

Highgear Alterra Altimeter Watch    This product is no longer available

fun for the first week.   12-07-06

The backlight on my alterra stopped working after about two weeks of ownership. They tell you not to set the barometer unless you REALLY know what you're doing, and the altimeter (probly since i haven't REALLY set the barometer) has been nice as a ball park figure, but I wouldn't trust it in any situation where I was relying on a certain altitude to know I was in the right place. The watch is also fairly bulky and not too comfortable to wear with ski gloves. I had it attached to my bike handle bars for a while this fall, but it got ripped off by accident (don't ask how, I'll admit, it wasn't easy) and broke some of the rubber/plastic so now it's pretty useless as a watch and I have an excuse to get a suunto. It was fun for the first week or two at least.

thin   12-07-06

I've had great sucess with other wool tops, so I bought this T for hiking. I wasn't so stoked on the thin "clingy-ness" of the fabric though and decided to give it to a friend instead. On the whole though, I would definitely reccomend it for anyone who doesn't mind a more fitted, thin/lightweight fabric style T. A wool t-shirt sounds weird or hot, but they really are great and perfect for hiking or as light base layers for warm ski days.

Great jacket, too bad they didn't bother to make my size   12-07-06

I fell in love with this jacket, but it just proved to be too fitted for my purposes (cold weather skiing) in the size L. I don't know why they can't just make an XL in this jacket like they do in the Ama Dablam or the Guide Down. I had to exchange it for the Patagonia Down Patrol. Aside from not making it in a better size, I WAS stoked on this particular down jacket because of the really high, and really soft/comfortable collar to protect the face on those really really cold days. Also, the arms have incredible range of motion (I think they call it the butterfly or something), and the elbows and shoulders have extra beefy fabric to protect against ski edges and branches and what not. I was kind of broken-hearted at the prospect of returning it.

Helly Hansen Vertical Pant - Women's    Read other reviews of this product

Great pants, semi-ok cargo pockets   12-07-06

I already have a similar pair of pants in a men's that are more baggy style with cargo pockets, but was looking for a more fitted but progressive styled pant for touring. The waist on these is great, the velcro tabs are perfect (none of that lame elastic waist diaper-butt), and I really like how they have the vents on the inner thigh (it makes WAY more sense than other pants with the zips on the outside). My only complaint is that the cargo pockets are not as user friends as the cargo pockets on the men's pants I have (also from HH). It's hard to get your hand in there with ease and I usually keep a stick of dermatone and a goggle cloth, and occasionally a cell phone, in those cargo pockets and tend to access them a lot throughout the day. Aside from that, the fit is perfect, and the Helly Tech fabric rules it.

As far as the movie itself goes, Matchstick does not disapoint this year, with some of the highlights being Ingrid's super rockstar segment and fun with Sammy and Dumont in Japan.

Giro Tune Ups I Audio System    Read other reviews of this product

Right to Left   12-07-06

I finally got the Tune Ups for my G10. So far they are great, with a couple minor annoyances like the cord has to plug in to your right ear, but most inner media pockets are on the left side of the jacket. It would be sweet if we could choose which ear to plug in to. The cord also has to get pushed WAY into the headphone jack. I thought my earpads were broken at first because you have to really shove that plug in there. I pushed it in farher and the sound got louder in my right ear. Then I pushed them in more and i finally had normal volume and sound in the left side as well. The coiled cable will also take some getting use to as I'm used to the standard straight and no frills cord from my earphones to the iPod. I'm sure I will "dust the sand out" and get over it though.

Simply great   12-07-06

Like the other review said, these shoes are really comfortable, don't need much break-in period, and run pretty true to size. In the last year I decided to branch out and try some other skate shoe companies but nothing compares to the comfort of my vans (at least for my feet). The others needed too much break-in, or were too tight, or had some weird pressure points, or just hurt after standing/walking/whatever all day, so I came back to what I know just works. And the No Skool are perfect.

It just feels right.   12-07-06

This is my new favorite base layer for everyday. It's simple, it doesn't smell bad after wearing it for a week, and it's really comfortable. It seems to stretch out just a little bit after wearing it a day or two, but nothing bad, if anything, just more comfort. I use this mostly for skiing, but have also used it to sleep in for some fall camping in the desert. I've found that even sleeping in merino vs anything synthetic is SO nice. In comparison, synthetics just feel like plastic to me now. Icebreaker rules, it just feels right.

Layering, Zips, and Thumbloops   12-07-06

So many things have already been said about this top. It really is ultra warm, and the high zip neck really helps to lock in the heat. If it ends up being a little too hot, though, you can simply unzip it and vent a little. This top also works for layering. I've used it as a mid layer over another Icebreaker skin 200 top for colder days. The thumbs loops are great for keeping my wrists warmer, too, since I have shorter cuffs on my gloves.

A little big, but totally awesome   12-07-06

We had a couple ski days where it was -7F, and I got some temporary frostbite on my cheek. Not real fun. So I decided to throw down for this waterproof down jacket and haven't had any problems since. The collar comes up nice and high to protect your face from the cold and wind, and the hood is helmet compatible which will be great for those pow mornings when I'm standing in line for forever before the lift opens. The fit is pretty roomy, which gives a good range of motion for skiing. I would usually wear an XL in most brands, but I got a large and it's still roomy enough to fit a hoodie underneath when I'm wearing it around town (so other people might want to consider sizing down from their usual sizes). Anyway, I LOVE this jacket and I'm 100% happy with the purchase, it's really comfortable and totally worth it!

wicks great, smells a little, but still in love   10-02-06

I wear this top for biking ALL the time, if it's clean, it's the first one I will grab. If it's not clean, I might still wear, though I caution you not to wear it too many days in a row (i.e. a weekend in Moab) since it's not wool, the smell gets a little ripe after a while. But if you wear it and wash it, then not to worry. Aside from that, I love the look/style and the white-ish back panel is an even lighter, softer, airier fabric than the colored portion of the top and it breathes and wicks moisture fantastically. It is especially perfect when you have a camel back on causing you to sweat a little extra back there. Last note...the size runs slightly big. I stayed with the size I usually wear cause I don't mind the roomy comfort, but I probably could have gone down a size for a more fitted look without it being too small for me.

Wanted!   10-02-06

I admit it, I don't have one of these. But it's going HIGH on my wish list after seeing it in action from some friends. The cooking possibilities seem completely endless from chili to fish and rice to all kinds of pasta. I can't believe i didn't get one with my original Jet Boil.

I decided to get the Companion Cup for the same reason mentioned above. And it's true, it's perfect for making coffee in the first and oatmeal in the second. Or coffee/tea/etc for two people since you can use the same base/gas on either cup.

DAKINE Sequence Backpack - 1800 cu in    Read other reviews of this product

Some good some bad   10-02-06

The new sequence has some improvements on the old one, and a couple short-comings. There is no longer a small inner mesh pocket in the top pocket, which was perfect for keeping track of small random things, such as keys. One thing they made better is the water bottle pocket which used to take a lot of wrestling with to fit a nalgene bottle into....now it's a pocket that unzips to turn into a water bottle pocket. it is sized better for a nalgene bottle and when not in use you have an extra zippered pocket. Overall the pack is still great for hauling camera gear while skiing, and it skis really well (i.e. it does not feel cumbersome or hinderng). On longer hikes it's not the most comfortable pack to hike with when it's fully loaded and your diagonally loaded skis are pulling back at your left shoulder, but for shorter hikes it's just fine.

Unfortunately no good on my dome   07-14-06

These are great goggles, but I was really bummed to find they did not fit with either my old helmet or my new helmet (a Leedom and a Giro G10 respectively). It could just be the combination of my head shape and helmet size (Giro: Medium), but they didn't work out for me. Otherwise they ARE sick goggles, and i especially like smith's platinum mirror lens.

Hit The Gnar   07-13-06

It's so nice to finally have some pockets on my hydration pack. I previously had to stuff my keys, granola bar, pump, etc. (I use this for mt biking) in next to my hydration bladder. The pockets could be slightly roomier, but maybe it's better to help me limit the amount of junk i throw in the pack. That's my only issue really. The compression straps are awesome, too, for the extra layer or knee and elbow guards if you plan to hit the gnar or are just accident prone.

Small and Swivel-ey   07-13-06

I haven't had mine long enough to comment on battery life, and i would never expect this little guy to be good for trail running at night. But for a little headlamp to wear around camp at night, this thing is perfect. Weighs almost nothing, takes up almost no space in a pack, the band is plenty comfortable to wear alone (i.e. not over a hat or bandana), it's perfectly bright to see what you're doing or looking for and it swivels. I'm super stoked on it!

Icebreaker Skin200 Legless Pant - Women's    Read other reviews of this product

Wool is where it's at, and the 3/4 length is perfect,   07-13-06

I was skeptical of the 3/4 pant at first, just because i've ALWAYS had full length long johns, and i don't think i want to go back now. The question of pant legs in the boots or trying to roll them up and leave them out of the boots is just a non-issue. I used these for the end of winter and all of spring skiing, and they were perfect! I was also skeptical of the waistband because it looks like one of those super tight elastic bands that's only good for creating a good looking sausage, but it's not so, they made it just right. Also (if you need the testimonial) they do not smell bad. I have always used capilene and its stinks so terribly after one use. I ski alot....and i can't afford to buy enough long johns for every day, so having ones i can wear more than once with out washing and without stinking is awesome! Also, of note, Icebreaker claims these are lightweight and not midweight, and I would tend to agree with that, however I have never found myself to be cold in them yet.

Thanks for No Stank   07-13-06

it's true. this shirt does not stink. an extended weekend in the mountains.... a 24-hour relay race... no stank. Love it! Also really comfy and not as "clingy" as some other wool t-shirts i've tried on. Although the image makes it look a little frumpy, it's not actually like that. It has a fitted and contoured cut for women, like most other perfomance tees, with just a touch more room than the rest (which is perfect in my opinion!)

new fav   02-17-06

I really just bought this hoody because it looked cool, but it's got more than one secret pocket! HoLLaH (Aside from the one by the shoulder, there is another little zipper pocket above the left kangaroo pocket so you could stash your cash in one and your key in the other, it's perfect) and the thumbholes rock too. Super comfy material as well, not too thick, not too thin, though trying to wear it while it's still winter, I can tell it's part of their spring line. But I love it all the same.

Brighton seems like the underdog in Salt Lake when you have the infamous likes of Snowbird and Alta right next door, but Brighton is one of my favorite places to ski! You will spend FAR less time standing in line when you go to Brighton, and much more time on the snow. They also have everything from fun groomers to tons of tree skiing to a super good terrain park (and definitely some sweet pow stashes).

Soooo comfy, and I don't fall off! Even when I was a wee lass of 12 years I would wake up only halfway on my sleeping pad. It's comfortable enough that when our house got to be too hot upstairs this summer, I just rolled out the Camplite and used it downstairs in a colder room for a good night's sleep. Needs altering for girls   07-28-05

Great little pack. Although the strap system is not very girl-friendly (and by girl friendly I mean compatibility with the upper sports bra region) on account of the chest strap. It would be fine if one could move the chest strap higher up on the shoulder straps, so they attach higher across the chest, but they don't go high enough on account of the gear loops. I will probably try to remove some stitching so the straps can slide higher and hopefully the whole things fits better. (Right now I can't put the shoulder straps where they should be cause the chest strap would be all weird). Otherwise, it's a great little pack and I’m sure dudes have no issues with the chest strap. It's perfect for in bounds use and perfect for short OB hikes from the resort. I have also used it hiking in the spring/summer and it works especially well here for post-season ski-recovery. The diagonal ski carry is great, too. Quick and easy.

I had these socks with me for a relay race but I didn't wear them for my first 5 mile leg and I started to get some heinous blisters under my big toes. I had two pairs of them so I wore them for my second and third legs (both about 5 miles each) and the blisters were suddenly a non-issue! Not only did I not notice the blisters but they did not get any worse at all. I wish I had worn these socks for all three legs of the relay!

I dig 'em   07-25-05

These are officially my new mountain biking sunglasses. Nice and light. They fit my head and face perfectly (I guess I have a medium sized head -large for a girl, but small for a dude.) The rubber on my last pair of sunglasses would ALWAYS get stuck in my hair when I took them off, and these have been much better at not getting stuck. The scoop thing seems to work too. Sure, I will fog up a bit when I stop but as soon as I start moving they are fog free. I went for the bronze/taupe combo and really like the lighter lenses for riding in the shade of the woods. I also dig the slightly more "urban" style of the frames.

Chim-Chimeny   07-22-05

I was confused as to what the chimney vent was, but it turns out it's pretty awesome. The air goes in a vent inside the bottom cuff of the pants and then out the thigh vents, so while you're heading up the lift on a hot day you get this great air conditioning-like breeze that you can totally feel over your knees on the inside of the pants! Pretty darn rad in my opinion. And it may seem illogical to hide mesh in the ankle to do this, but I’ve never ever had a problem with snow or moisture or anything getting up there. Also, pretty bomber construction and the fit is perfect.

I've been using these bottoms forever! I am talking years, like ten years. Super comfortable, and since mine are a little long on me (I guess I am short for my waist size) I just roll over the waist a couple times and have an instant comfort soft waist band (not a fan of the straight up elastic band, but the problem seems to have solved itself). The one thing I am bummed about is they do kind of stink now that I ski 75 to 100 days a year, but with lighter use they were fine.

I have a lower arch and a wider foot, and am having some difficulty getting these shoes dialed-in for my particular feet. I have used them at a local nature park with a coarser gravel path and found I wish the soles were a little thicker -like them better on the road. What I really love about these shoes, however, is the mesh. Even when I just walk around indoors, it feels like I have a personal air conditioner attached to each foot. And they are so, so light on your feet.

Growing up on the East Coast, I have used the Capilene mid-weight zip tee for skiing for as long as I can remember (it may go back as much as 10 years!). Best Bag Ever   07-15-05

I think these bags could survive warfare! I've had mine for more years than I can remember, though I think it's somewhere around 5 or 6, if that gives you an idea for the durability and it really doesn't show ANY signs of falling apart. The first one I bought was the small, which I use almost every day, and then I got a larger one a couple years ago to transport my laptop and use for various larger needs. You could drop this thing in a puddle close to its height and as long as water didn't get in through the top everything would stay dry. Conversely, if you spilled your whole Nalgene bottle's worth of water inside, you could tip back your bag and drink it right out (not that you'd want to, but it makes it a lot easier to clean when you can dump things out instead of them getting soaked into the fabric). If I could give this more than 5 stars I would!

tough enough for endos   07-14-05

I bought the Omega Reservoir when the bladder in my generic bike hydration pack broke. I wouldn't dream of buying anything other than camelback. My Omega is still going strong (and clean) after about 3 years of use from biking to hiking to easy water access on long road trips (just hang it off the back of the seat.) The wide mouth is great for getting ice into the pack and makes cleaning much easier. The seal on the bladder is also super good, you can feel it when you close it. I once had trouble getting it open it was sealed so good (but that is probably more my fault for letting it sit for a few months w/o use in the winter). I've also endo-ed straight over the handlebars and on to my back while biking, and the camelback did not break. In fact it probably helped alot to cushion my fall. I can't imagine life without the camelback.

I originally bought this wallet because it was small and it zipped up, so I could throw change in there and store business cards, but it's really just a perfect little wallet, so I now use it as my all around every day wallet. The dividers are great for organizing and there are even card slots if you want to use them. I love how everything is perfectly accessible from the top (no folding or having to shove multiple cards in one slot to make them stay, or slots becoming loose and dropping cards -that’s all irrelevant with this perfect compact zipper design). And c'mon, the retro stars are so cool!

i bought these for my boyfriend and he loves them. personally i think they could have a cleaner design/style, but it sounds like the comfort and the heat moldable comformability (is that word?) more than over-ride that point. He hardly ever wears real shoes because of an old broken toe that doesn't sit right in shoes, so he wears these almost everyday.

I was able to borrow this pack for a weekend backpack trip and could not have been happier. I usually sweat a ton, but never noticed a sweaty back with their mesh back panel, so i guess it worked! A friend helped me shorten the torso length to make it fit me properly and it was really easy to do. I also really love how the waist belt cinch is set up to give you better leverage. I compared this to my friend's Arcteryx pack with your standard cinch type and the Ariel was SO MUCH EASIER to tighten and get as tight as you needed (the ariel was also MUCH more comfortable on the shoulders than my friend's arcteryx -she tried both and agrees on that point too). I am seriously considering buying this pack now, but if i don't get this one, it will definitely be one of the Ospreys.

For a name like "adrenaline light micro" i expected these to be thin, similar to my other smart wool running socks, and similar to cycling socks (which is what i wanted to use them for mostly). But i was poorly mistaken. Call the marketing police, cause these are pretty thick for a "light micro" more like recreation ski socks, you know the ones people buy cause they think their feet with be warmer, but they decrease performance. Anyway, I think they will still be great for hiking, just thought the people should know not to be fooled by the name.
