Everything I had read about this jacket before purchasing it is definitely true. It is definitely worthy of the backpacker magazine "editors choice." I've worn it backpacking, camping, day hiking, and everyday wear. It is light, breathable, and very waterproof. Some of the rain I've experienced in the rockies has been terrifying, and yet, I stay dry and safe because of this jacket. It is also roomy enough to wear a fleece jacket or sweater underneath to protect from the cold that come with some hikes. Great jacket!! It's the only jacket you'll ever need for rain protection.

I have not been able to use the filter yet -I hurt myself on a previous trip- but everything I have read that led to my decision to buy it was positive. To see it first hand, I was happy with the ease of use and lightweight, packable design. It is probably more suited for extended treks than for the shorter trips, but that just means that it will be more durable and will last longer. Overall I am happy with the Katadyn Guide filter. Maybe I will review it again after it has been used a few times in the backcountry.
