I've tried various flavors of fleece including WindStopper, and this is by far the best and most versatile jacket I've ever owned. It does it all: sheds rain, stops the wind, *breathes* well, good fit. Believe the hype -- this soft shell delivers. This jacket combined with a base layer and a hard shell are all I need to handle anything mother nature cares to serve up when I'm hiking.

Thoughtful design, good balance, and all the lighting options you'll need. The LED is perfect in camp/tent, and the Xenon bulb is ideal for hiking at night or route finding. My inner Boy Scout appreciates the extra bulb stashed in the battery compartment, and back-up battery for the LED.

This jacket is exactly what I've been looking for: minimalist, bombproof, and a thoughtful design. I love the fit and the shorter length. It laughs off rain and wind, so I'm eager to try it out on Rainier this summer. The only downside is the retail price, so do what I did and find one on sale. Thank you BackcountryStore.com!
