Columbia Rogue Plaid II Fleece Jacket    Read other reviews of this product

Not amazing, not terrible   06-29-09

I got this for very cheap (about $15) at a Columbia outlet and don't regret buying it. The fit is snug, which is good because I'm pretty skinny. It's warm and pretty durable. It's good for cool weather, but I don't think it's really winter wear. I'll probably end up using it as an outdoor work jacket, which is performs well as. But I won't be bringing it on any backpacking trips.

Awesome but delicate   10-12-09

This is super warm and fits nice and snug (as I wanted it to). However, it's very delicate and any small twig could easily put a hole in it. I'm also a bit worried about the stitching, seems a tad bit flimsy for the price. But Backcountry is one of the few brands that fit my smaller skinny body so I keep coming back to them.

ALPS Mountaineering Slick Rock Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Primaloft    Read other reviews of this product

I'm satisfied   09-21-09

Seems to work well into the mid-upper 20's. Compresses smaller than advertised. I can easily get it to about 8x12 in the stuff sack it came with. This will be great for 3 season backpacking.

Good 3 season bag   09-19-09

Firstly, this bag is more like a 30 degree bag. I don't mind, though, because it compresses smaller than advertised (roughly 8x12) and performs well in temps above 25 or so. If you're in the market for a 3-season bag, this one is probably the best value you'll find.

Excellent but delicate   09-12-09

This shirt is extremely warm, has a great slim fit, and also looks great. But it's extremely delicate. Any small twig could put a hole in the fabric and although the stitching has held up so far I am always concerned about it. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied considering I got it discounted and I only plan on wearing it under a shell so the fabric should stay pretty protected.

Montrail Continental Divide Trail Running Shoe - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Not as good as I hoped   08-03-09

I got these for free with the purchase of another pair of Montrails, so I can't be too upset with them. However, after wearing them on a very small mountain (1300 ft elevation in central Mass), I was somewhat disappointed with them. They're comfortable around town and on flat trails. But on rocky terrain these were almost useless. At times I felt like I was wearing sandals because they offered very little support and cushioning. The day after I wore them my legs hurt a lot. The construction quality of the shoe is also somewhat poor. Overall, these shoes either take weeks to break in or they are just not up to par with the quality of other trail runners I've used. I'll keep them for casual use and light hiking on very easy trails, but that's about it.

Mountain Hardwear Burly Wooly Pullover - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Good pullover   07-25-09

This is a great pullover for most outdoor activities in cold weather, especially fall and early spring. It's not too technical or anything but it's very warm and stylish yet modest. Would go great over a baselayer or flannel shirt, or under a shell. The front pocket can also come in handy at times but I feel it's a bit unnecessary and just adds bulk and weight. It's also a bit itchy on exposed skin but it doesn't get too annoying. I would recommend this for light day hikes or anyone working outside in cold weather. Overall it's an excellent pullover if you can get it at a discount.

Montrail Torre GTX Hiking Boot - Women's    Read other reviews of this product

Good boots, need breaking in period   08-18-09

I don't know why, but it seems like I see these boots on sale everywhere. At a Columbia Outlet store, my girlfriend and I bought some Montrails on a buy-one-get-one-free sale. She bought these for only $40 while I got a pair of Continental Divides for free (we split cost of hers). Anyway, she got these for light backpacking as well as cold weather hiking. With out even putting them on beforehand, she first used thsee boots n a 9 mile hike up & down Mt. Greylock (highest point in MA). It wasn't long before she had pretty crazy blisters the backs of her feet. Although she was upset about that, she says that after breaking them in they're a comfortable, supportive, and strong boot that performs well in most situations. Personally I don't think they're worth more than half off regular retail price, so definitely look for these on sale if you want them (as I said, they're always on sale somewhere, you just have to keep an eye out).
