So far, so good. I got these shoes to compliment my heavier boots, and these Montrails are making me smile. There is a narrow heel cup, but that works for me. The size is true-to-fit, and I am wicked impressed by the traction and comfort of this style. I have had some difficulty finding hiking shoes that can hold up to trails in the Northeast (I am a bit rougher on shoes than most, I admit), and these seem to make it happen. The snow is too deep in the White Mtns. of NH to wear them yet, but I just spent 3 days on hard-pack trails in the Adirondacks and was pretty pleased. I am slightly concerned about the fabric ripping as the spring/summer hiking season advances.

I am now returning these shoes; they did not hold up AT ALL to actual use. On the snow-pack they were fine; once spring came along and I wore them more often they did not perform the way I had expected. The upper portion of the shoe pulled/ripped away from the sole which allowed water to pour in. I still love the way Montrails fit so I have ordered a different model that is more of a trail runner.
