pretty good, but.....
02-28-09 ![]() |
....the goggles kept slipping off the back and slapping me in the back of the neck. maybe it's something i'm doing because i haven't read anybody else having a trouble with it. what it is, the back helmet retainer actually has a very stong magnet, as does the helmet, so they stick together. i think i'm pulling hard enough so that it's slipping off and popping me in the back of the neck. the helmet itself feels good, though, and the vents have removable plugs you pull from the inside. it's lower profile than the protech assault, but not super low. probably as low as a helmet can be and still retain some cushion between your head and a tree. a 4 because of the goggle thing, but the rest of it is great. oh...what looks like weaving on the inner lining is a printed pattern on the cushion inserts. |

pretty good binding *READ THIS

bought these brand new in 09 to go on my K2 board. only problem i've had is when you get to the end of the ladder ratch, it starts skipping and missing. you have to pick up on the end of it to make it catch and progress. this is on the left binding only. i took it to the burton store in vail and all i got was 'yeah, mine do that, too'. i'd heard burton wasn't aces in the binding dept, though. it still works, it just skips at the end....kinda like my indicator that i'm fully ratched in. besides that, the back board broke on chair 4. i took it in and they swapped it out free of charge. **key thing here - turns out everything from burton after 05 or 06 is guaranteed! dude asked how i did it, i didn't know (found out later it's the chair that drops down on it and crunches it). no problem, he simply replaced it instead of me shipping it off. so, pretty good binding, excellent warranty. |

pretty good shirt

only thing i wasn't too hot on is the thumbs aren't reinforced. it's held up well so far after several rides, but you can look for it to stretch out somewhat because when the shirt shrinks in the wash and you still hook your thumbs, it pulls on that part. still, the arms are a little longer so there's some give, and whereas all my other tops have shrunk to 3/4 sleeve, these have held up well. |

Pretty decent shirt

I picked this up for around $23 (tax included) on whiskey. The main appeal to me was the thumb holes so the shirt wouldn't ride up when I board and when I put on a coat. Only been on four trips up with it so far and it's held up pretty well. The thumb holes aren't reinforced around the opening, but haven't torn so far. Stretched out a little, yes, but not torn. It's kind of a heavy football jersey material, and works pretty well as a base layer. I usually wear larges and this was right on as far as sizing was concerned. If I had thought, I would have ordered a couple more for the season because I really like the longer arms! Rated a 4 because the thumbs aren't reinforced with stitching and looks like it might stretch out over time. Once it does, I'm hacking off the thumb holes and wearing it like a regular shirt! |

nice, but a little tight
02-02-09 ![]() |
like the first guy, i didn't notice the skulls in the camo design, and that was pretty cool. it runs tight just above the ears, but i pulled the velcro pieces there (that hold on the inner skull liner) and sanded the inner padding a little with 60 grit and it's a good fit now (they probably wouldn't recommend altering it, though). i also cut the chin pad off because once i got it snugged up, the pad was just hanging off and was pretty useless at that point. |

very durable, well-built watch
02-01-09 ![]() |
i've destroyed multiple watches, but this has lasted over a year. i researched nixons and found them to be waterproof to 100m (meaning you can wear it in a shower). the crown has a raised bezel, so the crystal looks as good as the day i got it (working on cars is a hobby of mine, and i have yet to scratch it). the backlight is bright enough to create a low glow across a dark room so you can guide yourself through the house in the middle of the night without turning on lights. it's a heavy sucker, yes, but i snugged mine down so it wouldn't flop around on my wrist and now i don't even notice it. the double-clasp is well built and hasn't let go yet. |

excellent board!
01-24-09 ![]() |
i started out 7 years ago with an old 156 and learned on that. this summer i hit a clearance and saw a black/red 161 and fell in love with it and had to have it. i got it home, had it tuned, hit the mountain with it in december, and it's like a whole new world of boarding. i can skate on flats with it, it carves easier, and the raised lettering also acts like a stomp pad so i can steer off a lift. in short, the best board i've had ever. only reason it's not a 5 is the red wears off, and that was part of the appeal for me. short of that, i've never been on a better board! |

The best for travel and storage
01-13-09 ![]() |
i liked the one for my 157 so much i bought another when i got my new 161. they fit great, the boots fit perfectly in the pockets, and there's enough room between the bindings to fit a day or two's worth of riding gear. it's rugged and padded good enough that the airlines haven't destroyed it or anything inside (traveled w/5 times so far). if i get another board, i'm getting another bag! |

great for storage and travel

i liked the one for my 157 so much i got another when i got my new 161. they are a perfect fit and the boots slip neatly in the pockets. if you can pack light enough, you can fit your clothes (besides your ski jacket) between the bindings and have one bag for everything when you travel. it's padded pretty good so my equipment doesn't get damaged, and the airlines haven't managed to rip or break anything on it yet (traveled with one about 5 times now). if i get another board, i'm buying another bag! |
