I really like MontBell...

I own the Ultra-light down "coat" and this jacket and I really like the construction and look of MontBells products. This jacket packs small, is so well made and has such a nice clean style. I will alway check to see what MontBell has when buying outdoor wear. Think of it like this: Montbell is to outdoor gear as Toyota is to cars. |

An essential must have product...

I am extremely pleased with this garment and I believe may be one of the best outdoor products I've ever owned. There are warmer down coats but this "sweater" type under-layer works so well and can be combined with any type of shell or outer coat. I tried it one day with one of my real down coats and and the concept of "cold" was no longer part of my vocabulary. Oh yeah, for winter camping, it's the best "night shirt" one could wear when nature calls and it's 15 degrees outside of your sleeping bag. One thing about the jacket- if you big (you know what I mean) XL may not be XL enough. Maybe OR Transcendent Down Jacket (nice) or Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket (very nice) are cut a little larger and are probably just as good. |

I'm very pleased with this shoulder bag and have had a few compliments on it. It hold a lot and it stays were it's put even without the use of the waist belt. I do have some concern of how it's going to hold up to heavy use, but only time will tell. So far so good. If you got the money (not cheap), buy it. |

Bad stuff 1st. I won't wear these skiing, I don't think they're made well enough to take my falls, but I didn't buy them for that. They work, the price is great when on sale and they have a clean look. They stuff very small and fit my in my camera bag when not needed. I'm glad I got the XL though (36 and some these days). And, "Crotch ripped out" (the 2 star review) is not to be ignored. This hasn't happen to me with these, but, once upon a time, at Hunter Mountain NY... So, I try to keep it in mind. That being said. The XL fits rather well over my pants when the weather changes and I'm on my bike running errands in the city. One thing must be said about the pack bag - what extra weight is Matthew Agarwala talking about? The quarter in my pocket adds more weight, but ultra-lighters can be a little out there with weights and measures. I'm a photographer and ultra-light to me is a Nikon 18-200mm VR lens with shade. |
