I bought these for weekend wanderings in and out of the city; I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. They're very comfortable yet have a more sporty, rather than staid, look to them. So far, they've taken me through the zoo, Golden Gate Park paths, the beach, pavement and asphalt, and so far they've held up well. I can't vouch for their sturdiness and comfort in a full-on hiking situation, but for getting around on weekends, these fit the bill.
