Big Agnes Seedhouse SL 1 Tent 1-Person 3-Season    This product is no longer available

the epitome!   10-28-04

I work for backcountry.com and I’m here to tell you this is the one. I'm six foot four and I can stretch out in this baby. This thing is touted as a one person but it is wider than my tnf canyonlands which is a two person tent. I took this on my wonderland trail trip around mt. Rainier which is a 100 mile, 20,000 ft elev. Gain and loss, 12 day trip. It is the lightest, roomiest tent I’ve found. Yes you can find lighter, you can go with a bivy or tarp, or another 1 person tent. Are you going to climb into your sleeping bag which is inside your bivy if you get to camp at 2:00 pm and there are a ton of bugs and it's 70 degrees? Can you sit up in it and change clothes or add a layer? Is your tarp going to keep the bugs away? Can you take the rainfly off your tent and look at the stars and still be this light and roomy? Didn't think so, me neither which is why I chose this one. It weighs less than 3 lbs. Just get one, you'll thank me. One note, keep the Velcro away from the mesh, it snags easy, light weight almost always comes with a compromise but like all gear if you take care of it, it will take care of you. Happy trails!!

Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tech T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's    This product is no longer available

it's wicked man   10-28-04

I work for backcountry.com and I have a good number of shirts similar to this one. I did the wonderland trail around Mt. Rainier this summer and I bought 3 of these shirts specifically for this trip. So light, so wicking, so easy to clean and they dry so fast. Good colors, and they put out new colors every year so you can mix it up. I highly recommend this shirt. One note: they snag a little easy but the snag doesn't spread, the chipmunks, marmots, mountain goats, bear, and the rest of the wild animals don't give a care, why should you? I'll take comfort and function over looking good any day. Don't get me wrong, they are definitely tough enough unless you're gonna be rubbing against rocks or trees all day

blisters? who cares!!!   10-28-04

This summer(2004) I did the wonderland trail which goes AROUND Mt. Rainier, 100 miles, 12 days, 20,000 feet of elevation gain and loss. A quarter mile from camp on day 2 I got blisters on BOTH my heels even though i had logged over 80 miles, a lot of vert, and a lot of time wearing these boots. By the way, Lowas rock!! I developed a couple more small ones later on in the trip in various spots on either foot. Did it slow me down or put a halt to my trip? HELL NO!!! I had the blister pack!! The second skin is amazing! A little gel pack you put on under the moleskin. Even on my heels being such a high abrasion area made little difference. I experienced really slight discomfort initially as the blister was so fresh but it was very short lived, within 15 minutes I forgot I even had any blisters. Bottom line: if you hike at all you should have one of these little lightweight wonders in your pack, if you use it even once it will pay for itself. It's also great to have if you hike with people who are less active or unprepared. Do you really want to turn back when you are so close to your destination because you or one of your party got a little blister? I wouldn't and i don't think you would either, just get one! Buy your buddy one too so he/she doesn't have an excuse! Now get out there and get to hiking!!!!!

my little hiking buddy   10-28-04

As soon as my little buddy radar sees her pack come out she knows what's up and gets so excited. She knows it means we're going hiking or camping or something fun and healthy. I looked at alot of dog packs but this one is by far the most stable and made out of bomber materials just like people packs. Radar loves it, so will your little hiking buddy. Dogs bless America!!!

radar's favorite toy!   10-28-04

My dog radar is a frisbee dog, half german shepherd, half australian cattle dog, 2 years old. Malcolm, my other dog is a one-year-old, 100+ lb. Purebred black lab. He destroys anything in his path! It took him and radar almost 2 months to destroy the first one and that was leaving it out in the yard for them all the time to play with while i was at work. The second one I bought is still with us and going strong. I only bring it out when it's time to play. Even being left in the yard it outlasted 99% of their chew toys! It's great for humans too! It flies great, you can fold it or roll it, and if you have a dog like mine who jumps up and tries to catch the frisbee 3 feet away from you when you just threw it as hard as you could it is soft so your little buddy isn't going to be hurt. You can get a frisbee for .99 at petsmart but you can bet you will spend a lot more money keeping your dog in those (chewable) frisbees plus they are painful plastic ones, would you want to catch one in your mouth? Plus they are so light and flexible that they are great healthy entertainment at camp, a picnic or wherever. Dogs bless america! Hook your little buddy up, they bring you so much happiness, don't they deserve a little fun? Hell yeah!

Ruffwear Go Between Dog Bowl    This product is no longer available

dogs love gear too!   10-28-04

I love my little buddy radar and she loves me. I love the outdoors and so does she. I need to eat and so does she. My little buddy lives the same way I do, pack it in pack it out, and carry everything you need on your back. She's styled out with the ruffwear approach 2 pack(which is the best dog pack for comfort and stability I’ve come across) and she carries her water, bedroll(yes my dog has a bedroll, she even has her own avalanche transceiver made by Ortovox) and she carries her own food in her convenient go between bowl with the all important cinch top. It also serves as a water bowl if necessary. Why leave your most loyal devoted friend at home when you go out in the wilderness? A dog can be one of the best things you bring on a camping trip, they will go anywhere and be totally stoked about it, warn you of danger, protect you and if you have lame friends you always have a friend to go do something with.

Pacific Outdoor Equipment InsulMat Max-Thermo Sleeping Pad    Read other reviews of this product

oh yeah!!   10-28-04

This baby rolls up SO SMALL, is SO LIGHT, and keeps me SO COMFY, I don't know how I slept with my thermarest. Yeah you have to blow it up but it takes just a minute and is SOOOO worth it! I've slept on bare snow and been totally warm. I like the fact that the catendary cut eliminates the corners which you don't lay on which saves weight. That means you can have a pad that has primaloft insulation at the same weight of a similar pad with no insulation.

protect your tent   10-28-04

You've got in my opinion the best solo tent out there so protect your investment in the outdoors with a groundsheet. If you take care of your gear it will take care of you!

MSR Panhandler Potlifter    This product is no longer available

hotpans   10-28-04

Protects your cookware, protects your hands. Momma always said to use protection. The last thing you want to do after a big day of hiking and anticipating dinner for hours is hit the handle of your pan and knock it over or drop it trying to move it or stir your food. I know personally it works great with gsi cooksets and I can tell it would work great with most other brands as well. Probably the most high tech potholder you'll ever own or need, it weighs nothing and I just stash it in the bag on the outside of my cookset so it doesn't scratch the teflon.

my dog is a mountain dog just like me   10-28-04

A dog collar but cooler. This collar is as totally functional as your run of the mill collar if not more but also makes the statement I am an avid outdoor enthusiast just like my human buddy. You probably wouldn't let your human friends go out with bunko gear, why should your most loyal companion?

i like 'em   10-28-04

Great sole, nice stiffness in the shank. You can get on your toes and still have support and you don't feel every little pebble on the trail. Great for sporting around town as well, you never know when you're going to be off road, I least I don't.
