not for the tall and willowy   11-17-08

I'm tall and thin (5'11", 130 lbs., mid-B cup, and I usually wear a medium) and this shirt swam on me - the shoulders were cut right, but the fit was very boxy (like a guy's shirt) and much too short. I wear shirts like this at work (I'm a camera operator), and if I can't lift my arms over my head without exposing my stomach, it's a no-go. I imagine this shirt would fit a larger-chested or more pear- or apple- shaped woman much better. (I'd recommend TNF Falls Creek woven shirt for willowy hourglass-types.) Great fabric though - it was soft and the dark thistle color had a shimmery quality. I wish Ex Officio made more fitted shirts because I like the technical specs of their clothes.

Wonderful in many ways...   02-17-09

I just got this jacket and love it in all ways except one: as a tall person (5'11"), I find that the hood pulls a bit, as though it isn't tall enough from the shoulders to the crown. Granted, I have a very long neck, so for most people it should fit fine. But for those of you tall ladies out there - WOOT! WOOT! and/or those with long necks, the hood may tug a bit on the top of your head. Bummer. Otherwise, I adore the cut of this jacket. Roomy (for layering underneath) without being unflattering, simple detailing that makes it stand out (the black has a deep red zipper, which I love), and the waterproof quality seems quite good. I haven't been outside in a downpour yet, but it has withstood a gentle rain for an hour with no problem. Also, the arms are wonderfully long, which I love in a rain jacket. However, if you're wee in stature, the arms may be TOO long (practically covering your whole hand - on my long arms, the cuff hits at the knuckle), so check the measurements before buying.

Mountain Hardwear Downtown Down Vest - Women's    Read other reviews of this product

Almost but not quite   02-02-09

First my stats so you can compare for your own needs: I'm 5'11", 130 lbs, and I wear a mid-B-size cup. I always wear a small vest in all the various outdoor gear brands I've tried on (Patagonia, TNF, other Mountain Hardware items, etc.), because a medium gapes in the armholes and around the waist. This vest fit me everywhere but in the chest, where it smushed my boobs even when layered with only a thin shirt, which is too bad because the hourglass cut is nice, and the slightly puckered armholes were nicely fitted. I also wasn't crazy about the wavy stitch pattern - it seemed just a bit "off kilter" in my opinion since I prefer more graphic, symmetrical lines. To each their own though. Also, the brown fleece collar and shoulder lining was very nice and soft. If it had fit well, this would of been a great cold-weather layering piece. Alas, poor me!

Great cut!   11-13-08

I love the cut of this shirt! It's was true to size and is long enough, even for my stretched torso, well-fitted through the shoulders and has ample arm length. Cute flower detail on the back shoulder yoke. I can both wear this both to work (I'm a camera operator) and to a casual dinner. As someone who is constantly frustrated by the boxy modified-men's cut of most work/play clothing (I'm looking at you, Ex Officio!), I highly recommend TNF Falls Creek shirt. (I'm 5'11", mid B to small C cup, and 130 lbs. I usually wear a medium shirt.)

perfect fit   03-05-09

I bought 2 of these shirts on SAC, and have fallen in love. They keep you warm, fit exquisitely, and fight off smell, even after a hard day. They're soft, and I really appreciate active clothing that fits me like a woman instead of a guy's size small. Also, the length is perfect in back, especially for my long torso. For your own sizing needs, I'm 5'11", mid-size B cup, 135 lbs. and I usually wear a medium, and a medium Icebreaker fit perfectly.

plasticky   02-20-09

This vest feels like what you imagine recycled plastic bottles made into clothing would feel like: not that soft or pliable. The black color is a bit chalky, and the fit isn't as nice as portrayed in the picture. Is it that hard to make a vest that fits both in the arm holes and the chest? I'm a medium B cup, and usually wear a small vest, but this one, like many vests I've tried on, was more of a guy's cut. I returned it and will continue looking for a vest that has a more hourglass, flattering cut. If you simply need a warm core layer, this is a good economical choice.

Beautiful and rugged   01-30-09

These boots run larger than my other Keen shoes. I put in a liner and wear heavy winter socks so they fit fine now. They're great for wide feet and/or someone who has a wide ball of the foot, like me. I love how they look, but I haven't yet tried them out in Idaho snows, but will soon!

super cute and warm   01-30-09

I love Keen. The wide toe bed, the fun styling, the functionality balanced with good design and color options...I'm a big fan. These boots are wonderful - like many slip-on boots, they slide in the heel, but I don't mind that when I'm shlepping around and I wear them with thick winter socks to keep the slipping to a minimum (and I did try a size smaller, but my toes jammed into the front of the boot). I wouldn't wear these winter hiking though because of the slip-on roomy fit, however they're great cold weather townie shoes. Due to the Keen (get it? KEEN?! HAHAHAHA...sigh) attention to stitching and colors (hey, active women's clothing and shoe designers - there are some really great combinations of colors out there, follow Keen's lead, please), I get a lot of compliments on these boots from both men and women.

Shiny and sleek like a well-fed seal is sleek   01-30-09

I'm 5'11", 130 lbs., mid B-size cup. I found the small size to fit me best (I usually wear a medium in tees and long sleeves, and a small or medium in sweaters). This vest isn't fitted - like the pictures show, it's cut pretty straight to the hip. The material is satiny, so it slides easily under other layers and looks pretty snazzy. I bought this TNF boxier cut vest so it would fit well over fleece layers for very cold conditions. The down and amount of it in the vest is plenty for cold-weather layering. For urban excursions, I'll probably buy a more fitted (hourglass cut) vest.

awesome shoes   11-14-08

I wear these canoeing, camping, hiking and at work as a camera operator. They are so incredibly comfortable - and aren't as clunky/heavy as Tivas - that I have them in two colors so I can switch them out. I have the navy blue and black. The navy blue is not quite as purple-y as the picture listed above, in my opinion. I usually wear a smaller sandal size than my close-toed shoes, so I found these accurate to size. Although you should size up if you're not sure - you do not want your toes bumping the Keen-classic rubber toe bed. Cannot recommend these shoes highly enough. When I go canoe-camping, I bring these and a pair of hiking boots and that's it. They have great grip and support, even on steep mountain hikes in Idaho. These are not great for tromping through litter or trails with lots of sand/stones. They will get in, rattle around underfoot, and be painful. Also, if you wear them a lot, they get stinky. I toss mine in the washer occasionally. The only downside? The funky tan stripes you get from wearing them every day in summer :)
