Well, it almost worked...

Very cute dress, but I'm right smack in between sizes, so neither the Small nor the Medium fit quite right. The dress is very clingy -- you'll want to wear Spanx or something similar under it so you don't have those tacky panty-lines showing. I didn't think the shelf bra provided much support or coverage. I don't need much in the support category, but I'm a little prudish about coverage. I could fit a strapless bra on under the Medium dress, but that size was a little too big overall. Bummer for me; it is a cute dress, and I say that as someone who hardly ever wears dresses. |

Liked the fabric, but not the fit

I tried this skort in a size 4 and a size 2, and sent 'em both back to Patagonia. The 4 falls off me; the 2 is too tight across the butt & too big in the waist. The rise is just... odd... for a skirt. Maybe 20-year-old women like skirts that are so low-rise they barely go above the hips -- that seemed to be the style everywhere this summer -- but I'm not fond of that look in general, and definitely not on me (age 47). Also, these low-rise skirts and skorts look terrible on someone with a long torso, like me. Seriously not flattering. I don't like skirts or pants that are "high-rise," but I need more coverage than these low-rise clothes provide. Harumph. The search for skirts or skorts continues. |

| Outdoor Research Synapse Jacket - Women's Read other reviews of this product |
Wanted to like it, but sent it back
08-24-08 ![]() |
This jacket's fabric is the thinnest I've ever seen in a jacket -- it's kind of neat, really; almost like paper. I want an extremely lightweight jacket to block wind when I'm cross-country skiing on very cold and windy days. My current windbreaker (a Swix, which I like very much) is great, but I end up overheating sometimes. The OR Synapse jacket really is super-lightweight, and might work great, but I didn't like a couple things about it. It does run small; if I'd liked the jacket enough, I would have exchanged it for the next larger size. But I didn't. (1) This fabric is LOUD. Usually, when I say a fabric is loud, I'm referring to a garish color or print. In this case, it's not the look; it's the sound. It's way louder than your average nylon-shell swishing sound, and I think that would drive me nuts while skiing. (2) The cinch-cord doohickey for the hood is in the back of the hood -- so it's hard to reach and hard to work; *and* it looks seriously dorky to have that... that... that *thing*.... sticking out the back of your head. What was Outdoor Research thinking? |

Love this.

I have the Bodyfit260 Tech Top in the solid black, and it looks really nice and feels comfy. Very warm. Turned out to be too warm for cross-country skiing, but would be fine for downhill skiing, I'd guess. It also looks fine -- dressy, even -- as a regular shirt. Mine will get lots of wear. |

Nice skirt; runs big.
08-24-08 ![]() |
I tried the Small in this skirt, based on the Ex Officio size chart, but the skirt was huge on me, so I returned it. Seemed like a nice enough skirt -- a bit sheer, so I'd wear a slip with it -- but I wasn't motivated to try the XS size. (Wasn't sure if it would fit; wasn't sure how much I liked the crinkly fabric, or if I liked it $50 worth.) Might be great for someone else; just order down a size or two. |

Runs big
08-24-08 ![]() |
Really loved the fabric -- it's very soft -- but the skirt runs big. According to the Ex Officio size charts, the Small should have fit me, but it was *huge*. Big enough that I doubted that an XS would fit me; and I didn't want to spend the $ on return shipping if it didn't. One minor thing: Generally I like it when longer skirts have slits, but on this skirt, the slit is off-center (above the right knee), and that made me wonder if I had the thing on right. (OK, so I'm easily confused....) If you order the skirt, get it at least one size down from what the Ex Officio sizing chart says. |

Loved the fabric, but not the fit
08-24-08 ![]() |
I ordered this in a Small and a Medium, thinking I'd keep whichever one fit and send the other one back, but I wound up sending both back. Too bad, 'cause the fabric is fabulous. The S mostly fit, but was too tight across chest & armpits. The M was looser, but still tight across chest; and the neck was too big for me in that size. "Too tight across the chest" is something that I rarely have occasion to say (I'm in the A-B range in bust size), so I found the fit/design a little puzzling. Not right for me, anyway. But the wool was soft & comfy. |

Love this.

This wool top fits well and is very comfortable. (I felt just the teeniest, slightest itch at first, but that went away.) It's a great base layer for cross-country skiing, and for ordinary wear, under regular clothes, in the winter. Sleeves are long enough (not always the case for me). The top is form-fitting (without being restrictive), so it's good to wear under turtlenecks. I'm an Icebreaker convert. |

Great base layer, but slightly inconsistent in the fit
08-24-08 ![]() |
I got my first pair of these Cap3 bottoms last year, and I love them. They're comfy for sleeping in, and I wore them cross-country skiing (under a light shell-pant). They're almost too warm for cross-country skiing, unless it's a really cold day. When these went on sale this summer, I ordered a 2nd pair... but sent them back. The legs fit about the same as my first pair, but the waist was huge. Maybe a manufacturing problem? Dunno. Still love my first pair. |

Returned mine
08-24-08 ![]() |
This cami seemed like it would be reasonably comfortable -- and I liked the blue color -- but I didn't like the way the cami looked on me because it flares out at the bottom. If you have a shorter or average-length torso, maybe the flare would hit at your hips and look fine. I have a longer torso, so the flare at the bottom of this cami just looks silly (it's significantly above my hips). Oh well. |
