AC50's & Iron Maiden, a match made in...
02-11-09 ![]() |
Caution: Mixing the Volkl AC50's with Iron Maiden blaring in your ears can be potentially hazardous to your health if you are not prepared for the consequences. These ski's rip. As any adrenaline junkie or ex-racer will appreciate, Iron Maiden during free skiing or training seems to make everything much more intense and fast. These ski's have the same impact to your skiing as the intensity of The Number of the Beast. While I haven't had them in deep powder, whether moderate powder, chop, crud, groomed, ice, these ski truly perform...stable, smooth, & powerful. If you ski these like they were meant to be, they don't carve, they launch you on rails. Hang on! I'm 5'7" and ski the 177 and find it performs extremely well at both long and short turns. You can turn the volumn down and have fun skiing on them at moderate speeds & turns, but the skis strengths definitely shine the faster and harder you ski them...in any terrain. Need a big dump out here to see how they do in deeper powder... |

Reliable Watch, Great Price!
11-21-08 ![]() |
You really can't beat this watch for the price. Sure it's basic & burly (big), but it does everything it's supposed too! As with other reviews, ensure you calibrate altimeter (and compass)often prior to relying on it for anything useful. I've had mine for probably 3 years now and on second battery. Note to review below on alarm going out...it's probably your battery life...the alarm is one of the first things to go! 2-3 years and mine is now only a use as needed watch. Too rough a shape to let out in general public...only for mountain duty only now...skiing, hiking, hunting, biking, etc. bezel ring has worn down to base color and letters gone, freely spins, chunk out of base, face scratched pretty good. Been thru three watch bands, before reinstalling original (w/super glue). Some would say time for new watch, but...the dang thing still works great! Sure you can get more expensive watches that last, but for the price, this thing as stood it's ground. |

182 VCT - I Like this SKI
02-08-09 ![]() |
I demoed the 189 (or older 190?) last year and liked the way it skied so much I'm on a 182 this year and it has proven to be a really good ski. I wouldn't consider it as one ski quiver material, but this ski does really great in crud and powder. Although it carves smoothly on groomers, I don't care to ski a 104mm under foot ski on groomers. There's much better setups for ripping groomers. This is a light, quick, and stable ski that I find works very well equally in tight tree's and when charging on open lines...powder or crud. Should have mounted an AT setup on them... |
