NOW we're talking!

OK, so to retort my own critical review ("Grandma's bloomers"), these are the business. Turns out Backcountry must have messed up the sizing chart -- I looked on Icebreaker's website & they had a much more reasonable & normal sizing chart. It says L is my size; no kidding. So I re-order them in L and whaddaya know, they fit like a glove, or, some other thing that also fits closely down there. Yeah, these boxer-briefs are awesome. Get some. You'll understand. Can I give these 6 out of 5? |

Streetwear not activewear
10-14-09 ![]() |
As previously stated, the wool is extremely coarse, and you could probably not want to wear it directly against your skin.
But that said, it is a nice piece of streetwear. If you're the outdoorsy type (and what else are you here for, right?) then you would not want to take this thing off-road.
It is fairly loosely woven so wind cuts right through it. The cut is good for someone who is of medium to slim build. I am 6'3" & 205lbs and the XL fits me very well. Also, the collar is stiff, pointy & sticks up, catching me right under the chin.
If you're spending this kind of money then the Backcountry branded Siphon woolen jacket is a MUCH better buy (unless you don't want a hood). That has a much tighter weave, but is cut for a very slim person. The XL in that is much more fitted on me.
Buy this one instead of the A'T:

fantastic!

Calling this thing a "T" significantly undersells it. It really is a pull-over ultralight soft-shell that completely blocks the wind. Awesome! I have been using it on bike rides, where it excels. Breathes very well, and even when getting up to 30mph in 50-degree weather I don't feel any cold wind cutting through it. It hasn't seen any rain during the time I have had it, but I'd have to guess that it would shrug off a light shower pretty easily. A+. Get one. Or two, like I did. |

The bag feels like good quality, very very solid construction and the removable laptop sleeve is nice. But beware its weight, which is a lot. |

fantastic jacket

Very good jacket, perfect light-weight and 800-fill down makes this jacket a real prize. The fleece lined collar & pockets are a comfortable touch. I'm 6'4" and 210lbs, the XL fits me like it was made just for me. The jacket sits fairly high, but not as high as a bomber jacket. Haven't worn it much to know how well the down will stay inside the jacket. Highly recommended. |

Very comfortable, great quality

Pros: This jacket is extremely comfortable to wear; the sleeves articulate *so* well. The eVent is soft, and feels very lighton the body. Cons: It's too short for me; I have the XL and am 6'3" / 210, and it comes just below my belt. When the hem is cinched in it creeps onto my belt level, higher than I want. Also there is nothing soft to the interior of the chin guard, so it rubs a little. Interior pocket is open at the top. |

High arches
02-11-09 ![]() |
I wanted to like this boot, I really did. Unfortunately I have flat feet and the arches in these boots were so high that they were very uncomfortable. Can't say I really blame the boots for that. Other than that problem they looked like they'd be a winner. |

Grandma's bloomers

What is with the sizing? I have a 36-37" waist and normally take like a L in underwear. The guide here says that a 33" waist is a XXL. And that's as big as they go. Say what?!?! I put them on and the waist is a little snug, but the rest of the brief fits like pantaloons. I feel like a darn pirate. Arrr! The photos here show the briefs as being snug fitting, well for that to happen, the model / mannequin must be getting cut clean in half by the waist band. I have a drawer-full of Icebreaker shirts, which are wonderful. What's up with the fit of these things? |
