The Mountain Surfs are the original chubby backcountry ski that made everyone take notice. It has great torsional rigidity, a soft flex, and easy turning. This makes light work of crud, pow, and steeps. I have personally skied them on 55 degree couloirs, waist + deep pow, and really yucky snow. All smiles. Not too good on the hard pack though. If you want to use them as a resort ski, and do bumps and gates, get something else. If you want to do lots of turns in the fluffy stuff, these are the ticket. Light, and a pleasure to ride, these skis were made for God's country in the winter. The only minus I have noticed is that the p-tex is very thin…perhaps to save weight? But after 5 years and about 180 days of hard touring, they are starting to suffer, and the core shots are not fixable any more.
