Like most things Patagonia, this vest does everything it's supposed to do and does you the favor of looking sharp at the same time. You'll stay warm in the wind and cold (well, not your arms, in this case) without looking like a teched out jerk if you wear it to the movies. It's a touch "shinier" than it looks in the pictures here, but it's not bad--imagine the finish on a modern sleeping bag and you'll be pretty close. Like the cruel judge I am, I deducted it a star (and will in fact be returning it) because it fits a little large. I don't mean that it's old-school marshmallow puffy--like, for example a high loft down jacket--it just rides a bit far from the body for my taste. I like things to be tailored pretty closely, especially in the case of vests and insulation, since a gust of wind up the tailpipe is going to negate all that fancy climashield every time. Anyway, another solid offering from Patagonia, but consider sizing down one if you like your gear well fit.
