A great bag for the money! As one who generally finds sleeping bags (particularly mummy bags needed for cold weather) claustrophobic, I purchased the Trestles because it met my three basic needs at the time: 1) it was a 15-20 degree bag to deal with those cold Mojave Desert nights, 2) it came in an x-wide size to deal with my large self, and 3) it was reasonably priced to deal with my slim wallet! Aside from the great experience with the purchase from BackcountryStore.com, I was also very pleased with the bag. It was very comfortable, with the extra wide cut providing more than enough room for my larger frame. I worried that it might be too much room and that I might not be able to generate enough heat to keep that much space warm, but I didn't experience a cold spot in the bag at all through three nights of sleeping in the open in the low 30's. In fact, I actually needed to open the lower zipper of the foot box for ventilation, which was something that I never even wanted to do with my 5 year old NF Cat's Meow, even with temps in the 40s. Not a lot of whistles and bells to speak of, but it's a sleeping bag. If it's warm and comfortable, what more could you ask for? Well, light weight and pack ability, I suppose. The weight on this bag is on the high side, but I've never been one to complain about having to lug around an extra few pounds. What really got my attention is the size of the package when in the stuff sack. It was a much larger bundle than what I'm used to. I wouldn't carry it inside a pack, but wasn't a problem strapping to the outside. All in all, a great bag for the money! |
