Practical but not for petite women
03-27-09 ![]() |
I looked high and low for a rain jacket that was long enough for sitting down in wet areas and stylish enough for city living. I love the Port color of the Marmot Destination Jacket, which I bought based on the stellar reviews. However, I disagree with the other reviewers about the fit. It might be great for a certain body type/height, but I would say this jacket is not for you if you are a size 2 or 4. I'm between 115 and 120 lbs (I fluctuate), 5'3", and this jacket was too big in the Extra Small. The shoulders are much too wide, and the body overall just has too much material in the width. If I used the waist adjuster in the back, it only bunched up and looked weird because of all the excess material. It also does not adjust very small. I tried wearing this over my thick wool peacoat and it was still much too bulky. I'm sure not everyone has this fit problem, but I wanted to send a warning out to other petite women. FYI, I do not have a "slender" bone structure or narrow shoulders by any means. I am medium to robust in my bone structure for my height/weight. It's nice-looking and functional, and I really wanted to love it, but it should fit a range of normal sizes for that price. |

Constant compliments on this one

As opposed to some other reviewers, I found the bodice to be rather loose for the fit on the rest of it (neck, arms), and I am short with short limbs (5'3" tall, just under 120 lbs). I would probably prefer a slightly looser turtleneck and arms, or a slightly narrower torso. That said, this top is unlike anything I've ever owned. The material is sturdy & super soft, doesn't hold odor, and comes in some lovely colors. I have not worn it a single day without getting compliments. It's very flattering and sexy in a sophisticated way. And, the turtleneck/hood is actually functional for keeping you warm when you're out and about - seriously! On sale, I'd say don't hesitate to buy it. |

Helped Stave Off Hypothermia!

This jacket kept me from freezing during a sleet storm on the top of the cables of Half Dome (along with an Icebreaker thermal top and a Marmot gore-tex jacket). 'Nuff said. It's worth every penny even at full price, but I'm jealous because this is currently on sale for half of what I got it for! |

Warmer than expected
04-07-09 ![]() |
I am leaving for a trip to the UK and France in a few days, and I needed a stylish warm jacket that would be lighter than my thick wool peacoat for traveling. With only one review so far on here, I was skeptical to drop a lot of money on this jacket, even on sale. Thanks to Backcountry.com's return policy, I felt brave enough to give it a go. The Absinthe color looks very nice in peron, and the fit was true to size - slim and flattering without constricting. The dark color would be even more flattering, but I had too much dark clothing already. I can tell that it has a high warmth to weight ratio, which is what I will need in the cold temperatures of Europe and winter city wear back home. No "snowman look" here - very classy and urban. My only gripes are: 1)the belted waist adjustments only have two snaps each, which doesn't allow me to adjust quite small enough for my own build - but it's pretty close. 2)the waist is rather high for my taste. I know that's a style, but I prefer a more natural waist on a jacket. Overall, the Scapegoat Village is cute, streamlined, and feels quite warm. If it will help you determine sizing, I bought the XS and weigh +/-115 lbs, and am 5'3" in height. I could still wear it if (when) I fluctuate up 5-10 lbs. It's a steal on sale! |

Wish I had bought more pairs while on sale

I've been looking for good hiking/travel underwear, and these are it. They are as soft as butter and seem like they would fit well on anyone (unless the fit is too large). FYI, I'm about 113 lbs and 5'3", and the XS/SM fit fine. Any bigger would not have worked. Most importantly, these breathe amazingly well and don't seem to stink up much. I love that they don't create panty lines or bunch up at all. Just make sure you order down if you are in doubt. I just wish they made a version that was even lower cut with a narrower waistband, but it's still better than anything else I've tried. The rise is still flattering, and the Coral color is much nicer than shown (warmer - more coral than pink). In comparison, I have the Ex Officio Give N Go Bikini, and I think the Soytopia Bikini is far superior in terms of odor-resistance, comfort, and fit. No diaper-butt with these! |

Want to Wear It All the Time

This jacket fits perfect in the XS for me - I'm a petite female who wants technical features in a jacket that is actually attractive and flattering. I've tried a lot of jackets, and I think this is a great compromise for a variety of weather and activities. The fit is very slimming while allowing some layering underneath. The Pomegranite color is gorgeous. Best of all, cat hair doesn't stick to the outside - but you still get the cuddly soft lining. ;) I honestly didn't want take it off once it arrived! |

Great fabric albeit on the large side

I wore this for a several day backpacking stint along the AT in Virginia in August through humidity and thunderstorms. It was quite comfortable and the material feels great and does not wrinkle. It resists odors well (for a synthetic) and was breathable. However, I was surprised at how large it fit, even in the XS. I'm a C-cup weighing between 115 and 120 lbs (depending on recent holiday indulgences) and was actually about 127 when I wore this. It was swimming on me even then, so it might not be for you if you are petite and want a shirt that is remotely flattering. However, I would recommend it from a technical/functional standpoint. |

Not for Everyone
03-06-09 ![]() |
I know that everyone seems to love this jacket...and I really tried. But I found it to run too large. I'm on the petite side, but not "skinny" - just normal-bodied for 5'3". I found this to be a little on the short side in the XS, but it was too big around the torso and waist. It gapped at the bottom and was not sleek and flattering in my opinion. Too bad, because I got a great price on it. |

Super Cute!
03-04-09 ![]() |
I have been on a mission to find a rain jacket that's high quality, functional, comfortable, affordable, and cute enough that I would want to wear it regularly because I am moving to the Pacific NW soon. I think this might be it (after trying various other models by Marmot, North Face, etc.). This jacket is the most flattering so far (and cheap on sale!), it fits trim but not too short, and feels like a great material. I just received it so I do not know how effective it is in a downpour, but I can tell you that the Garden color is very pretty without being too bright. This is a great choice if you want a rain shell that is actually flattering and functional! |

Best Fit I've Found Yet
02-28-09 ![]() |
So, I am 5'3" and vary between 115 and 120, C-cup chest, and my limbs are not toothpicky by anyone's opinion…but I found the XS in the Contourwear top to be PERFECT! In years of gear clothes shopping, I would be hard-pressed to find another top that is so anti-wrinkle, warm yet breathable, soft, and incredibly flattering without it having to be black. Although I'm relatively fit, I often have to wear dark colors to create a slimming effect because of my slightly shorter height and curves. With the Teal color Contourwear top, I found that I looked slimmer without the need for color deception. I even had people comment on how Id lost weight when I wore it…I hadnt! It fits me close but just right around the chest while skimming my middle rather than clinging to it (so no pooch show-through). The shoulders are a teeny bit tight though. My advice would be to expect fashion sizing with this top rather than outdoor gear sizing, which tends to run larger. The length was just right for me, too. I just bought another one in a different color in addition to the long-sleeved version. In my opinion, this shirt is a great combination of function, classiness, and sexiness! |

Even Better than Pictured
02-22-09 ![]() |
I can't believe that no one has reviewed this product. I tend to be rather selfish about reviews...I depend on them entirely for my purchases, but I am horrible about remembering to leave them for others. The prAna Bliss Jacket motivated me, however. This is a very lightweight jacket that is certainly for warmer weather, but oh my goodness is it flattering! I am on the small side (5'3", varying between 115-120 lbs) but I have a curvier build. This is stretchy but not overly form-fitting, not too short or too long, nice fabric, and has a very slimming silhouette without being tight around the middle. It's especially good for those of us who are no longer teeny boppers and have to dress like adults, but still want to look sexy. |
