The North Face Solaris 35 Backpack - 2150cu in    Read other reviews of this product

Too Small!   08-24-07

This is a one size fits all backpack. I have a 19" torso. I got the 35L pack and the waistbelt rode up at my belly button. the info at TNF states for 17-20" torsos, not true. i emailed TNF about this to see if the 40L Solaris had the same frame, and it does. the person said that the straps can be worn tightened up for shorter torsos or mor lax for longer torsos, but if i did that, the straps didn't sit right. i bought this pack for dayhikes, etc. if you have a small torso 16 inches then it would be great. otherwise this is a school backpack and nothing more. looked like a neat pack, but they need to make some different sizes. this is the same thing they did with the Terra packs which are pretty cool packs as well.

Great skis!   02-04-09

I ski these with Fritschi (sp?) Freeride bindings, but this ski is great. i got them as an all-mountain ski and they do it all. i do skinning and backcountry with them, and recently did a week of resort skiing in utah with them. they handled everything. i had the rossi b3s prior but upgraded to these for a longer length. almost the same ski. they skied great on groomers, crud, mashed potatoes, bumps, powder. the only thing limiting me was my legs. very responsive for quick or big turns. i may get another pair for the future.

Mountain Hardwear Argon Jacket - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

Mountain Hardwear Argon Jacket   10-16-07

Returned. Nice-looking jacket, great pockets, great weight. Material looks a little flimsy, but from what I have read, it is sturdy. Returned b/c of front watertight zipper. Those are a pain!!! Up at the chin it constantly would get stuck and would take some adjusting to get it up the rest of the way; sometimes I couldn't. Not a fan of those zippers; they look nice but that is about it.

Satisfied   10-22-07

Have had this jacket for several months now. Very pleased with it. It is waterproof, except for two areas on the hood: where the MH symbol is stitched in, and the hole with the bungee pull, the inside is not taped over. But that is minimal, you need to be in a real downpour for those to matter. The jacket breathes well. Pit zips help. The pitzips a little difficult to operate, but not bad. Comfortable and allows for layering. The hood does fit over my BD climbing helmet. I had aftermarket hook and loop cuffs sewn on mine, as the sleeves were too long for me. Pleased with the purchase.

CHANGED MY REVIEW   01-30-08

Previous review "Satisfied" with 5 Stars. Changed it after using it a good amount. Doesn't breath as well as I thought it would. Sure it has pit zips, but I found myself having both fully open and the front open half way. Any jacket can breath with that much opened to the environment. Also the material started piling, for me mostly in the inner arms, which is kind of cheap for the money you paid. I emailed Mountain Hardwear about the piling, and of course I never heard back from them. I went with the Arcteryx Gamma MX Hoody and so far really like it. Breathes a lot better. Not waterproof, but then again, a waterproof softshell defeats the purpose of being a softshell and really changes its ability to breath. I would not for a water resistent softshell.

Mountain Hardwear Torch Jacket - Men's    Read other reviews of this product

MH Men's Torch Softshell   04-01-07

Was shopping for a softshell so I ordered the Torch and the MH Hooded Synchro. Decided to keep the Synchro b/c it was a little thicker, reviews stated it was more waterproof and the Torch had a very athletic fit that wasn't great for layering. The material is very nice. The fit though is very cut and athletic. I wear a large b/c of my chest size of 41. I am 5'7" and 160 lbs though with a 19" torso length, so i don't consider myself a normal large. for everything but my chest, a medium would suit me fine. this jacket fit me like a medium. if you are interested in layering, go up a size. the pocket with the patch i think is for an MP3 player to keep the pocket more waterproof. there is a hole in the pocket that goes to the inside pocket that i guess would allow you to thread your earphone wires through it? A great jacket. i would have kept it if i had the money to have two softshells. would be great for mountain biking, running, etc. pretty thin. i may end up getting it in the future.
