Triton not very good at all...
01-13-09 ![]() |
I bought a couple Tritons late last year. One worked, one didn't. Magellan asked for people to return defective units directly to Magellan, not place of purchase. So I did. Did I mention that they made me pay the $15 to FedEx it, too? They sent it back to me -- it still didn't work... Customer Service has been very unresponsive (Tech Support, in India, actually does an OK job, but they are limited). Supposedly, they shipped me a new unit a week and a half ago. I still haven't seen it... This is the last time I buy Magellan products. On a positive note, the TOPO! integration works pretty well once you figure it out, and the screen is really nice (I was upgrading from an old-school Magellan 315). The menu system is weird, but maybe I will get used to it eventually. All in all, this was a product that shouldn't have made it out of QA, and I think their Customer Service just couldn't keep up so they abandoned even trying... Tim |

very comfy...

Well, i bought these to be used under a dry-suit (whitewater kayaking) and as a base layer for cold weather hiking. I used them the other day under my drysuit, and they were so comfy, I never noticed them (and I stayed quite warm). They do run long -- but really, that is not a problem... |

Just OK...

Well, I got these to replace some Oakley Zeros that were stolen, to be used as running glasses. For the most part, the glasses are good, and I will likely continue to use them for running, but... The lenses seem big enough, but have a tendency to ride too high -- for example, the lenses cover my eyebrows, but do not extend down far enough to keep glare from the ground from coming up... (if I put the arms up 1/2 inch above my ears, the lens is in a good place, i gotta experiment with how to keep them there. They bounce on my nose. Might sound weird, but they move way too much. Never had that problem with my Oakleys or my Smith Factors. I might just have to get used to that... Otherwise, they seem to be a great pair of glasses... Tim |

Good knife at a great price

This knife replaced a Gerber River Shorty for me. I keep it on the outside of my PFD (P-vest), which is 99% of the time fine for whitewater kayaking and rescue scenarios. It is somewhat bulky if trying to climb into a raft from the water (gets caught on line). Like any knife kept on the outside of a PFD, I do recommend attaching it via a cord so it does not fall to the bottom of the river... |

Perfect

I got these to replace another pair of Smith sliders that I lost in the river... They are great. the only thing I found disconcerting is that right after I got them, it appeared that a thin film on the arms started to rub off at the end. Other than that, they are perfect! Oh, I am really tough on my gear, and have nicked my polarized lenses a few times already, so maybe they could be a bit tougher (or I could be more careful). |

Good knife for the price

I got one (although I want to upgrade to the pricier CRKT ABC ER Knife). I have used it on my PFD on approx 500 river trips (whitewater kayaking). It has never fallen out, although I have friends who have lost theirs. If you are worried about that -- any knife can fall out of a sheath. Just attach a cord to it. It is a great peace of mind -- you would never want to be handling a rope near the water if you didn't have a trustworthy knife at hand to get you out of a predicament. |

They make you cool
03-23-09 ![]() |
I have more sunglasses than I know what to do with, but when I am feeling a bit of an attitude, I pull out my White Riddles. Took me a little while to like these (they are big and bold) but now they are my favorite glasses for just chillin'. I would not use them in any type of strenuous physical activity. Oh, and I am a guy with a decent sized face - they are snug but not uncomfortable. |

bummer, took these out for a training yesterday and bent them severely going up a snowy hill. Will be returning them tomorrow... Definitely not "sturdy". |

nothing fancy (just a silly metal-ish Oakley logo under the buttons). |

First of all, girls love hugging you when you wear this soft and fuzzy jacket :) This jacket works great on cool mornings by itself, or as a very effective mid-layer under a windproof shell. Great fit, too. |

Very versatile

These are great pants. I wear them 4 seasons, but i do wear layers under them when it is cold out. The belt doesn't stay very tight, so I always find myself tugging it tighter, but it really isn't a problem if you don't put anything on it (radio, phone, etc). |

Great Glasses
11-27-08 ![]() |
Well, I got this pair after losing another pair of Smith sliders. My only complaint is that shortly after getting them, I started to notice that there appears to be a film that is coming off of the arms. Other than that, I love the glasses. I use them for all sorts of outdoor activity... |

Great Boots
11-14-08 ![]() |
Well, I just put these boots to their first real test. I am Search and Rescue, and put a lot of miles on boots, typically with a heavy pack, typically without trails. Just returned from a mission today traversing some pretty ugly terrain. Feet felt great the whole time, and the boots were very surefooted and stable. My only issue was the uppers don't seem to tighten up as much as I prefer. That might get better, though, the more I use this pair. |
