Great DH helmet for the money

The Rampage is an excellent full-coverage helmet for downhill biking. This paid for itself on day#1 of use when I smacked my face on rocks in an over the handlebars bail... If you do any serious downhill and care about your teeth then you need full face protection. I modded this helmet in a couple of ways to make it perfect for me: 1) The D-Rings on the chinstrap are awful. I found that the metal rings were dragging and scraping down my face everytime I put on or removed the helmet. I understand how the rings are supposed to work, but they are more nuisance than anything else. It was no problem to use a hacksaw to remove the D-rings - now I just use the chinstrap snap button and the helmet fits fine. 2) I like audio sometimes. If you are willing to sacrifice a Giro Tuneups kit (sold on backcountry), you can retrofit it them to work in this helmet. The speakers and connection point fit perfectly. |

RED/Burton messed this one up...

This thing is just a bulky hard shell on the back. It restricts mobility and feels awkward. Try Demon International's DS1475 Vest for something that protects your ribs and frontside. The Red impact vest is a terrible design. I usually am stoked on Burton, but this product needs to go back to the drawing board. |
