Make your choice Wisely
05-16-09 ![]() |
The Morain is a nice down jacket but for the Money you may want to choose some othe options. Marmot Ellsworth is lighter and Less bulky plus less expensive if you shop around. Ground Neve has about the same characteristics minus the hood. So if you don't need a hood and want to save $30 plus dollarsyou may want to select the Neve. All of the above jackets are NOT waterproof or do they resist water. This is not uncommon in down jackets. |

The Large Lafuma Vest
02-24-09 ![]() |
This is not a high end vest but it is functional. The Jacket conterpart is even more useful and functional. The problem is the sizing is HUGE. I usually can wear a large vest. Lafuma large looks like a XXXL. I reordered a Medium and thought all was fine. NOT SO. It is huge. BC doesn't carry a Small in the vest which is no doubt what I need. The medium is equal to a XL in other brands. It is a functional plain jane vest that would be alright if the size was more in line with normal people and not Giants. |

Salomon makes terrible jackets

Way too heavy therefore you will move awkwardly. Like wearing a diaper in jacket form. Runs small and when you go up a size the sleeves are way too long. No sleeve adjustment. Don't buy it. Not worth even $10. Non-functional. |

I have not found a salomon jacket I thought was functional. This one Runs small. Is too heavy for its purpose therefore overheating will occur and there is No sleeve adjustment which is bitterly needed |

On a positive Note
05-22-09 ![]() |
There is something to be said for this jacket. If you come in from a day out in the cold and it is a little cool in the cabin then this jacket works wonderfully as a house coat that is good for a quick foray out to the wood pile. If sure beats wearing a robe around because it can be used to go to the store if you are in a car. Now you don't have to wear your robe around town. Pertex does have the merit of stretching, but this coat does tend to run small so go up a size. Bon Apetite |

delicate

Not for hard use in the field. Breathability is nonexistent and overheating occurs during higher activity. Very light weight. Hood could be more user friendly with more adjustments. Useful for wear inside a cabin. |

Delicate
04-19-09 ![]() |
Very light weight and made for mild days. About the heat retention of a heavy T-shirt. Outside material is very thin. Makes one wary about wearing it in the brush or around rocks for fear it may rip. All zippers are extremely small and delicate. They operate very roughly and sometime require both hands to open and close. |

There are other better options
04-18-09 ![]() |
If you are after a down jacket then go to Marmot for a good selection. The gage is too thin and doesn't keep you warm even when the temperature is 55 degrees out. The pocket zippers are the coil type and do not function smoothly and no doubt will break after limited use. Almost impossible to zip either way without taking off the jacket and using both hands. The light brown gets dirty too easily and the stains are hard to remove. The green approaches a Lime green and is not attractive by any means. |

By appearances it is a nice looking jacket but there are some limitations. It only has 2 pockets, It is Very Heavy for a down jacket and it is Not breathable. Check out Marmot for a better option. |

There are not enough pockets and the design of the pockets is left wanting. The jacket fits funny. Feels constrictive due to the design. The different colored pockets make it look like something from the 1950's. Not desirable by most peoples standards. The zipper is difficult to align and zip. Chooose something else in one of the major brands. Not as warm as it should be. |

Not a 3 in l jacket but a 3 in NONE jacket
03-17-09 ![]() |
What your other reviewers eluded to but we to shy to say directly is. 1. Too few pockets and those are oddly shaped for the position they are in. A definite drawback. 2. If the liner ( which is nice on its own) fits well then the shell alone it just too big and looks like you are wearing a colored garbage bag. 3. I love OR jackets but this is not one of them. I bought it and returned it the same day. Just too baggy as a shell and when the shell has the liner zipped in HORIZONTALLY ( wierd ) it makes the fit look very odd on you. Like you have a horizontal constriction in the middle of the jacket and restricts comfortable movement in that area. If you own one have some common sense and return it. Or live to regret it. |

Evaluation part 2
02-25-09 ![]() |
The vest is way too baggy in the torso and if you purchased the black you look just like your wearing a trash bag since the black is very shinny. Even though it is too baggy in the torso the arm holes fit very tight just wearing a long sleeve T-shirt. Any thing heavier will be extremely uncomfortable it you can get you arms thru the holes, much less having the circulation cut off to your arms. The arm holes are not elastic. Not worth the money. |

They run mighty big.
11-18-08 ![]() |
Be sure you order a size smaller and if you are 5'8" get the 30" inseam. Great construction and the pant legs are not tapered so you won't look like the typical dork wearing convertible pants. Also consumer service at Columbia is all but lacking no matter what they claim. You have a problem with their product and they seem to have many reasons not to rectify it. |

If you like Columbia's Venture series then you will be sorely disappointed in this. It runs small, the legs look tapered and the material of of poor quality. If you know someone you don't like then buy them a pair of these. |

A Nice General Jacket
11-15-08 ![]() |
Looks nice. The problem is it is too wide and too short so it looks like you are wearing a good looking box with a hood. The box does repel water very nicely and comes is some sexy colors. I would choose a furio before the Mithril for any backpacking venture. Mithril is for around town. Too bad they don't make them in a Tall. |

A great Town coat
11-15-08 ![]() |
First of all the Tremor runs small. Size up at least one size and maybe too to accomodate for a severe athletic fit. The Jacket looks great yet lacks alot of the bells and whistles OR is known for. The main zipper is not a two way which is a major limitation. The pit zips do not go all the way to the hem like they do on almost all OR's other jackets. A great coat if it cost you less than a C note. I still love OR products for their quality. |

Cheaper and Better in other Brands

A good jacket but you could buy it for a lesser price and get a chest and internal pocket plus the external material would be Far Sturdier. A nice jacket if the price was about $60. Rated low because you could get a product with more advantages and save yourself a good $30. |

Well worth the price. Wrinkly out of the pack is to be expected. in town use where looks are important spray it with a water mist and put it in the dryer on air dry and put some tennis balls in. 5 minutes later it is perfect. Everyone should own at least one. Buy your regular size. |

Not very Functional
05-07-09 ![]() |
The jacket is the thinnest out of all the brands. Therefore it will NOT keep you Warm!! It is extremely Overpriced. Should not run over $45 for what you are getting. Only good when the temperature is 60 degrees F. of warmer. Overall a Real disappointment. Look to Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear or Marmot to Keep you warm. If you do you will be far warmer at a far less expensive price. It also tends to run very small |

Has some limits
03-27-09 ![]() |
I would not recommend this jacket if you are after a light weight shell. It is fairly heavy. The back length could be longer. Too short for some layering items. They stick out and get wet. Construction is adequate. Hood is not removable which is a drawback. |

You can Do Better than This
02-27-09 ![]() |
The jacket is heavy which of course it would be with its down rating of 550. The description said it would repel water and was water resistant. I was out in a light drizzle for 10 min. and supposed I would have some leakage at the seams but noticed the material was becoming soaked. The handwarmer pocket develeoped a hole in it on the first use and the only thing put in that pocket was a soft glove. Truly an item that starts breaking down as soon as you buy it!! |

Another Input
02-25-09 ![]() |
After wearing the jacket once I noticed a hole in the right pocket on the seam. The only thing put in the pocket was one soft glove. This does not bode well for the quality of workmanship ( that is lacking ) or their quality assurance. How will this jacket hold up?? With it starting to fall apart after one mild use I leave that deduction to the reader. BC would be wisely advised to NOT carry Lafuma clothing and stick only with Lafuma shoes ( if they are made well)! |

Lafuma -on Dry days that aren't trash day
02-25-09 ![]() |
The description states it is water resistant so precip won't soak you. I was out when it mildly started to sprinkle, after 10 minutes the MATERIAL was soaked. One would have expected it to only soak thru at the seams. It got as wet as a non treated piece of nylon/cotton. The black looks just like a shinny trash bag. Quite cheap looking. There are other things that are better to buy with the same capability or better for a cheaper price. |

Think before you buy
11-18-08 ![]() |
It may look nice but it has some major limitations. The sleeves are too tight. Layering is almost out of the question. The jacket sleeves drag you shirt sleeves up you arm into a knot making it very uncomfortable. You have to get a size larger to have it fit in the chest. Quality is O.K. but nothing compared to Outdoor Research products. Marmots descriptions of their products is often inaccurate, stating it has pockets that is, in reality , doesn't. And their customer service in a laugh. |
