Wool in the hot summer
07-29-05 ![]() |
Who would have thought that one could wear wool in the heat of the summer and be comfortable? I used this merino wool top on a 4-day excursion into the eastern High Sierras above 10,000 feet. The sun was warm and the air temp was in the mid 80's even at altitude, but this top kept me comfortable, absorbed the sweat and was relatively sun protective. What really impressed me was that I did not stink after wearing this top day and night for 4 days. A further benefit occurred each time I hit a pass and wind picked up. I would don my Patagonia Dragonfly Windshirt, and, between the Oasis top and the windshirt, I was able to stay warm and avoid the wind chill factor. I am sold on wearing wool even in the summer, especially in the Sierras. |
