Oakley "puffy' jacket

For the snowcat who chases pow in sub-10 deg weather, the Oakley puffy here is perfect. It is hard to beat a down jacket with hood when cold and this jacket has excellent features to seal out the elements with no loose, flapping cords. It is well thought out. The built-in "wrist gaitor" is a really nice, but after a few hours, can leave your hand feeling sore from the pressure of the thumb hole part. Pockets are abundant and in enough places to make anyone happy. I mainly use it in town on cold days, but it is perfect for our high-altitude skiing in CO where a malfunction on the chair life can spell real trouble. Hey, why be cold? The WP/B shell fabric (Gelanots) like most coated fabrics tends to build humidity on warmer, sunny days, reducing its comfort range. But, those days are better suited for outfit #2 or #3. One complaint: the light "khaki" color (mens) is "off" with too much yellow making it look like like a buttercup. Light colors are much better to reduce solar heating effects from high-noon sun. A better color would have been stone or light grey for men. But designers often pick colors on a whim. |
