The halogen light dose not disperse an even spread of light. The bulb shifts slightly to one side inside the reflector when changing from a wide to narrow beam of light. This leads to a blacked out area in the center of the area you are light(not good!). I did not notice a big difference between the high and low settings of the LEDs. The LEDs output was very good. I never had to change the batteries in 5 days (avg. 2.5 hrs per day) of camping.
