When I first started running on these shoes, mainly 4x4 trails in the hills near my house, I found these shoes to be flat and clunky compared to my trusty Nike Zoom Steens. Sure they did the job but the sole did not have enough rocker to allow me to really turn up the pace. Then I took them on a run in the Ruby Mountains and realized what these shoes were designed for. Trail running on technical steep terrain. They have great lateral support, enough cushioning to protect from sharp objects and plenty of traction. If you love to run on these type of trails I highly recommend them, just don't ask these shoes to turn out 7 min. miles.

Really love these shoes for padding and traction. Excellent for long steep trail runs or even Fastpacking. The footbed is contoured for a tight fit. Toe box is a bit small so watch the toenails. My biggest issue is the stitching on the outside (near little toe). It consistantly comes loose and then tearing occurs in the material. I run an average of 400-500 miles on a pair of trail shoes. I am having a hard time getting that mileage out of the uppers on these shoes. Meanwhile, the soles wear like boots. No problem there. Regardless, I'd still buy them for their support and traction.

I have had these shoes for about six months. They are breathable, light, and comfortable. Much lighter and airy than the Teva Elden Trail I used to run in. I normally run paved trails with these trail shoes (as terrible as that sounds) because trail shoes seem to support my ankles and knees much better than any road shoes have. These shoes have been great. The only complaint I have is the heel strike on the outsole is very soft rubber, and is wearing away very fast. Most likely from road versus trail use, but it would be nice if it lasted longer. Overall the best running shoes I've used. Well worth the cost.

I'm currently in my fourth pair of Velocity's and swear by them. I have done numerous 100 Ultras and yet to get a blister. These are by far the best trail shoe I have ever owned. They wrap the foot so nice and cushy and seem to last forever!

My favorite trail shoe. Wide toe box, good cushioning, durable enough to fend off the rocks, sticks and roots of techinical trails. great traction on almost everything, good not great on wet rocks. I wore a pair straight out of the box with a pair of Injinjis and gaiters for the whole race recently at the Bear 100. Zero blisters and only 1 lost toenail.

Great shoe, my second pair, the first were Gore-Tex lined and I now prefer the non-lined ones. Great stiff sole. I would recommend these to everyone out there. budget the Gore-Tex ones if you plan on getting wet, if you want high breath-ability get these ones.

These are great shoes. After trying many brands of shoes and boots, I found that Vasque size 13 shoes and boots fit me perfectly with virtually no break-in period. Because of this, I buy nothing but Vasque shoes and boots.

| Well, I originally bought these because I liked the color and style of the shoe. Imagine how thrilled I was when I realized that not only were they supportive, while doing leg presses at Gold's gym(where even the women's room has a urinal), but my insert fit in comfortably, as well.
Now, these shoes are for trails, so I took them for a walking spin in the Santa Monica mountains. I was used to wearing running shoes on hikes and my foot used to wobble side-to-side and slide forward--not in these puppies! It was the first time my feet and ankles felt secure. They are also my favorite pair of walking shoes. Planning a trip to Disneyland? You'll want these of your feet!
Even though I do not have a wide foot, I bought the men’s shoe--they were more comfortable than the women’s. |

#1 Shoe in my collection! I purchased these at a national store [three letters], and was looking for a super-lightweight hiking shoe. I tried on every trail runner in my size - 6 pairs in all, and was about to leave with another pair when I spotted these. Tried them on, and comparatively, they felt like slippers when I put them on. I tossed the pair I was going to buy aside, and bought these. They have done 18 mile day trips up into the mountains, desert trails in severe heat, and mixed terrain hikes, and NOT ONE blister EVER! Not even a hot spot. They provide great traction, incredible weight [slipper concept], and very rarely do I feel any pressure on the bottoms of my feet on severely rocky and difficult terrain. These ARE my hiking shoes except in winter. I have used them for a year and hundreds of miles and rocks, and they are just now beginning to show some wear.

I recently purchased a pair of Vasque Velocity's. This was my 3rd. brand that I had purchased and they are the best that I have run in. I run the granite domes at Enchanted Rock SNR in TX not the main trails but the boulder fields and obscurre trails around the park. I get great support and stability on very uneven terrain. I would recommend this shoe to every one.

I have owned these shoes for about year and half and I can't say I do much trail running on them. I wear them for my everyday/work shoe and they are great. I put countless miles on them and they still feel just as comfortable as when I bought them. Aside from just wearing them for work i occasionaly take them out for a light hike and they perform quite well.

Although they took their time breaking in, once I had 50 or so miles in them, they were (and are) great. I buy 6-8 pairs of running shoes/year replacing road and trail shoes either after 4 months or 400 miles: after over a year of running, the Velocity Trail Runners are still in my regular rotation! I've run in almost everything and these are my default, go-to shoes when I'm heading to the rougher trails. As mentioned, I noticed a longer break-in period than with other shoes, but these things are made to protect your feet: uneven, sharp, pointy, jagged off-camber, rocky, muddy, rooty trails are not a problem with these. I wouldn't wear them for a 5k footrace, but they're not made for that: these are Sherman tanks, not nitrous burning funny cars. They don't get too hot, I never got a blister from them and they look really, really cool. ¡Oh! The tread pattern is unbeatable. Except for perhaps the inov-8 line of fell shoes, you won't find a better shoe for traction in the mud (and even that is a debatable point.

These shoes are great! Light, breathable, and awesome grip on the trail. The shoe size may run a tad on the small side. I bought a 10.5, my normal size, and these are just a little smaller than I'm used to. If you normally run a little big, I recommend ordering a half-size up. For the price, these can't be beat. The only thing they don't have is a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane, which would be nice.

Happier Feet 07-03-05

| Allow me to preface that I am a plodder (wrestling background), not a runner. I run to stay in shape and, despite my better judgement, I run the rocky hill trails of north Phoenix. I have moderately wide, and quite flat feet with a healthy amount of pronation to the outside heel and require a spacious toe box. I run with orthotics.
I am a sprinter by nature and I tend to run on the balls of my feet. My runs last about 75 minutes with two laps around the Thunderbird Park amphitheater side. My feet have been bruised from taking pointy rocks head-on (with Asics shoes which had lost their cush over time, mostly (Asics Cumulus before the Vasque).
I decided to search for a shoe with a bit of protection up front for the balls of my feet. I decided on V-Velocity – this site had the lowest price on that shoe.
The Vasque was just over 14oz on my kitchen scale compared to just over 13oz for the Asics. The Asics has a better than average amount of sole under the ball and toe and the V-Velocity has a bit more. The insert in the V-V makes the sole hard to the touch while the Asics gives more (thus, less protection from rocks). As well, the V-V is stiffer in the roll from heel to toe as well as in torsion.
Running on asphalt with the V-V gave me a pronounced feeling of the shoe assisting me from moving from the well-padded heel to the ball and toe. I liked it, but pavement is not my bag.
Moving to the trail, I had hoped that the aggressive tread on the V-V would help me move efficiently up the gravel and sand. It did marginally. The real improvement was in the downhill portions. I'm not one to baja downhill like some do, but the tread on the heel of the V-V really grabbed onto the terrain. The sensation of heels slipping while going downhill has been markedly reduced. Bonus.
Now for the performance over the nasty stuff. The sole does, indeed, offer increased protection over my Asics. I can still get poked by some of the more sharp rocky protrusions, but I am now concentrating on running, rather than on each little foot step.
Running downhill has always been a problem due to toe-banging against the front of my shoes. This has been reduced, albeit, not eliminated in this pair of V-V. I could get a half-size larger but wonder if that would alter the fit beyond just that dimension.
Would I buy these again? Yes...in fact, I'm considering buying another pair right now, something I have never done before.
They work for me.

I am in love with a shoe (in a wholesome sort of way). I am a big guy (6'2" 190lbs.) and I have ruined more than a few pair a shoes in short order running on the broken limestone trails that I frequent. These shoes are outstanding. I purchased my first pair and wore the daylights out of them and they have held up great. I quickly ordered two additional pair which I am currently breaking in. If you don't need Gore-Tex, this is the shoe for you. Fit, uppers, and outsoles are all five-star. I cannot say enough good things about them.

For fit, quality construction, comfort, and traction, the Vasque Velocity can’t be beat. It is the only trail running shoe that can withstand the punishing terrain I regularly push through. After using them for a few weeks, I started looking for a back-up. I am hard to fit, so I tried out numerous models and brands, spoke with manufactures, drove over a hundred miles to find the right pair. Fearing that this model of the Velocity had already been discontinued, I bought a pair, then another when I saw that this site had them--a rare find. Now as far as fit problems, I have no worries.

I usually have a complaint about at least one aspect of a trail shoe... too narrow, not enough sole cushioning / protection from rocks, toe bumper inadequate, hurts my achilles, etc. etc. I have owned the Gore-Tex version of the Velocity, the GTX, for about 2 years and really liked the way it felt, so I ordered the straight Velocity. Right out of the box it felt amazing. I now have about 50 miles on it and so far it is amazing feeling... much lighter than the GTX waterproof version, very well ventilated, and the rock & root protection on technical trails. I'm thinking of ordering other pairs in case they should ever discontinue this shoe! The perfect trail shoe? It just might be!

I was very pleasantly surprised at how well they fit right out of the box. I took them to the treadmill to break in and expected some rubbing or break-in issues - I had none. They fit very true to size and are very grippy. I have used them for a couple light afternoon hikes and a couple times on my mountain bike. They grab the mountain bike pedals very well - even when wet/muddy. No issues on the hikes. Overall, a good shoe at the regular price and a great shoe for the money if you can catch them on sale.

I got only 370 miles out of my Vasques before the material on the inside shredded. Actually, the material on the inside and outside near the front of my foot was showing major wear and tear as early as 200 miles, but then the inside of one of my shoes shredded in the middle of a long trail run, really irking me to the say the least. Yes, the shoes provide great traction, but the material is so not durable if you're on single track and gravel trails. Also, the shoes are VERY heavy. They have far more minuses than pluses. This go-around with Vasque proved to me that it's hard to find a better trail running shoe than Montrails.

| I've had 2 pairs of the Velocity and I consistently love them. They fit my feet fabulously and they are extremely durable too- my first pair I wore straight for 1.5 years before I got my new pair.
Immediately I ripped the mesh on the side on a sharp rock while scrambling in CO, then went on to wear them pretty much every day for 5 months in Africa (very harsh on footwear) and the tear never got bigger or became a problem.
I have worn them extensively both hiking and running in CO, the Winds, Kenya, etc. and my love for them remains, sans 2 Issues- These are dedicated runners and not good for hiking/scrambling/approach due to how flexible the tread lugs (= not stable) are and how quickly this sort of activity tears them off.
Also, the plastic...um, thingy on the sole under the arch can make them treacherous on rocks, as it can slip very easily.
But if you want trail runners for trail running, these are great shoes. |

I wear size 14. So, there is a far bit of weight put on these, and fit and comfort are HUGE for me. When I put them on, they felt like slippers. No joke! Compared to the others, they were drastically different. Since then, they are my number one hiking shoe [with a low gaiter for mountain trips and nasty trails]. I wear them when hiking Mount San Gorgonio and other local peaks/mountains, and they serve me very well. I will buy another when these wear thin [I've been using them on almost every hike, short and long since I bought them last Spring]. I do wear an extra liner sock layer on more aggressive hikes to provide a little more protection from the pounding on distance hikes [8+ miles]. These work great for running or for hiking, and I've tried just about everything [Asolo, Montrail, Merrell and others...]. They have also withstood all the punishment I have thrown at them and come out with flying colors.

Sooooo either its my feet and my choice of wearing a trail running shoe as apposed to a hiker (despite custom insoles and only carrying a CamelBak Mule) or these shoes just weren't meant to hike 45 miles of trail in a day! They felt great for about the first 15, but after that it was another story. Otherwise shoe has been great for all sorts of wearing situations, especially with a heat moldable insole. Have under 300 miles of variable running, hiking, and walking, on them and the back edge of the sole is starting to come loose.

I gave these a try because of the $53 sale price a while back, and waited to write a review until I had them for several months. Negative: my foot seems rather narrow for the size I wanted to ensure plenty of toe room in the toebox. This caused some blistering from heel slipping since I couldn't lace them up real tightly, but the blistering subsided after my feet got used to them. Positives: Tread is excellent. Reinforced toe and last keep rocks from causing damage. Extremely breathable. I just finished a 100km trail race in them with a stream crossing (December) in the first 3 miles--no sock changes, one small blister!
