I wasn't sure which of the women's wool long underwear bottoms would be the best, so I ordered the Icebreaker, the Marmot, and the Smart Wool. The Icebreaker long underwear bottoms are 1) just a tiny bit scratchy 2) much too tight in the elastic waist band, which was both unflattering and uncomfortable and 3) too high up on my torso, with the waist coming far over my belly button. The Marmot have kind of thick seams in the legs that makes them less attractive and less suitable for use as leggings that might show (versus long underwear that would never show), and they were also baggy in the butt and high-waisted. In contrast, the Smartwool have a much softer knit, and they have a nice, covered elastic waist band that hits just below my natural waist without binding or creating a muffin top (and I am thin, so the Icebreaker ones had to be really tight in the waist to make that happen). I LOVE the Smart Wool bottoms, though I do also love my Icebreaker wool tops.

My wife has worn these while horseback riding down to about 20 degrees and she didn't want to take them off when she got home. She loves them.

| Well-made, warm thermal bottoms. The fabric isn't scratchy at all. Very comfortable. Fit is very good. Waist falls just below belly button. Great thermals for those who want natural fabric.

When I think wool, I think scratchy, itchy. But the Smartwool's are so very soft and comfortable. Nice fit, lightly snug, no bunching at waist or butt. A bit pricey, but I will be buying more.

I'm not an outdoorsy person, but I got these just to wear as a base layer during the winter because I get cold easily. I love they way they fit - the waist doesn't come up too high like other long underwear - and they are soft and very comfortable. They keep me warm if I have to be outside in the cold, and they keep me at a comfortable temperature inside, too (I haven't gotten overheated or anything while wearing them inside). I definitely added some of these to my Christmas wish list, because I want more!

I do a lot of winter outdoor activities. I bought these last year as I converted from polyester to all wool base layers. They're awesome. Unbeatable sweat wicking, extremely warm and soft. It's actually the first base layer I've ever owned where my lower half is not cold under my shell pants after a few hours out in the cold. And if you're skinning or snowshoeing and working up a sweat...you WILL be warm and dry...period. ONE word of caution...if you are between sizes, order down, as they tend to stretch out a bit while you are wearing them. I'm 5'9" and 145 and the L ends up a little bit saggy at the end of the day.

I bought these bottoms along with the zip-t top to use as sleeping gear during a recent backpacking trip in the Big Horn mountains of Wyoming. In elevations above 9,000 feet, temperatures below freezing at night, I stayed toasty warm. Definitely recommend these as a layering piece; I plan to use them this winter for snowshoeing/skiing activities. The fit seemed true-to-size, neither too small, nor too large. Very soft and comfortable as a base layer; not at all like traditional wool. Spendy, but worth it.

I've recently chucked all my fleece and gone all wool- jackets, longs and all. These are super soft, comfortable, fit well and a lot warmer than fleece. Plus you don't get all that static electricity. Synthetics are so 1980! Go natural. go wool be warm and comfy.

the length was long enough (I'm 5'10 #175 and bought a large), they were comfortable, soft, the elastic didn't roll down or cut into your waist. I'd wear them all the time if I could.
