Great Jacket   12-27-08
joelberube (1): rating
Got this jacket after lots of shopping around. The L fit great in the body, but the sleeves were a little too short and didn't let me move so well. Upsized to XL, which has longer sleeves and more mobility, however, it's huge in the torso. At first, I was put off by the bulk, but after layering up and filling the pockets with my usual riding stuff, it didn't fit so bad: a little gangster. The coat snapped in to my 686 pants and kept the pow out. There are a ton of pockets, some of which I haven't yet found a use for. Very waterproof and the breathability wasn't bad, although I did get a little condensation all over my iPod. Pit zips were very effective. The zipper in the front which allows access to the inside of the jacket without opening the whole front was a nice feature. Overall a great jacket and backcountry's staff and exchange policy were great. I had to exchange the jacket before a trip to the Canadian Rockies, only had a week, and had the new item 3 days before leaving!

Don't get me wrong, this is a nice coat and You definitely can't beat the price, if you get it on sale. I got it from Brociety for a steal. The negatives are that it does run big. I am a pretty small dude, I got a small and I swim in it, should have gotten the xs. Also, even though the tag says "smarty" it is not. The tag clearly states that it has the 3-1 system, which it does not. I knew this before I bought it, no biggie. The one that did suck is that it states the pow skirt is removable, it is NOT. doesn't even zip away into a pocket. And the stone color is more if a cream/beige. The positives are that it is a really great coat. Lots of pockets great water shedding and breathability, and the hood is big enough for your helmet. Bottom line, get it on sale, and enjoy what you get.

Awesome   09-13-09

This jacket is everything you could want. Tons of pockets, warm, waterproof and comfortable. The one knock, the inner arm sleeves are a little short. Every time I bend over to buckle my binding I pull on the thumb hole pretty bad. Moss is a sweet color to!

I was looking for a mid-winter shell, and this Uzi shell is just sick. I went with a large and really hit a slam. Pockets, tough, lots of room for my 6'2" 200 lb. bod. Sleeves are long as well, but wrist gators aren't quite right. Looks sharp!!!

Super Style   06-24-09
gargamel (3): rating
Great jacket, style and price !!! took this baby away with me on a recent trip to New Zealand where winter is starting ......I was very impressed with its wind resistance and water beading ability during a boat tour of doubtful sound and also skied with the uzi too. Also got a compliment on the chest access slot on the front right side :) real sharp detail all around. The Large ran big (Im 5'11" and 180lbs )and BC switched it out for me ASAP for the medium which is perfect.

looks Sweet.........   05-27-09
gargamel (3): rating
Thanks to Backcountry for sending a smaller size to me (2 day express) for a trip to New Zealand to give the Uzi jacket a real outdoor test.I'm 5'11" 180lbs and found the large very big in the body and long in the arms. I'm on the slim side and the medium was a much better choice ,slimmer and not as roomy in the body but you can throw a layer or two undernear. This jacket has all the bells and whistles!! great color in gunmetal grey. I will be using it mostly as an outershell and rain jacket but would def recommend based on style ,options, price.....I only need to find out how well it breaths!!

Cool looking and functional Uzi.   05-25-09
Alex Pushkin (2): rating
I love this functional and very cool looking jacket. I'm 5'10'', 150 lb and M fits me fine with plenty of room for layering and goggles, maps, camera, ipod and whatever else I take with me. This jacket has a ton of small and large pockets, side vents, powder skirt, drawcord adjustments and it's breathable and waterproof. I find a front access zipper extremely useful when you need to get anything from the inside without getting the whole thing unzipped.

Too big! Very good jacket otherwise.   05-25-09
Anonymous (3): rating
I am 5'9 for 155 lbs and ordered a small, but it is way too big! even with layers underneath! However, if you find your size, I do recommend this jacket as it is very warm and waterproof, and yet breathable, and very functional with a ton of pockets. I didn't have too many problems with the gaiters as others have mentioned. The price is very affordable too given the quality of the jacket.

runs big (for a 30 something skier)   05-22-09
stonegreg1843429 (3): rating
I'm 6'3", 190 lbs and the large was a little bit too big. I went down to the medium, and it fit much better. Even the arm length of the medium was totally fine. However, I'll qualify this review by saying I'm a 33yo skier who is not looking for the baggy snowboarder look. There are ton of pockets all over the outside, and I really can't figure out what you'd put in some of them because they're pretty small. The main handwarmer pockets are not that big either (but big enough). I haven't skied in it yet, but the quality seems fine and the style looks good.

great jacket but...   05-04-09
sickasadog (4): rating
The pocket are all on the small side. The zipper in the front of the jacket next to the main zipper does not lead to a pocket. it's just a hole when you open that zipper. the material is very top notch and it almost feels like a softshell. The lining is not that thin, so if you want to layer, it feels bulky in the arms and armpits. my biggest problem with the jacket was that the wrist gaiters were not snug. they were all stretched out so it did not close around your wrist. i'm returning the jacket

Crybabies? Me too.   04-09-09
FaireduSnow (7): rating
Seriously, the idea of snowboarding/snow-sport clothing being not only functional but also highly fashionable is sort of a joke to me. Why the hell anyone cares about the color being a shade or two off is just a farce. FUNCTIONALLY, this jacket is just great. All the people who posted reviews saying the fit is abnormal probably just failed to mention that they have ape-like torso to arm ratios or vice-versa. Any normal person could walk into a store and fit the one that's their normal size, although I will agree that it is sized probably a half size bigger than most other manufacturers. I do, however, have a complaint about the FUNCTIONALITY of the jacket, seeing at that's mostly what these reviews are supposed to be about. Here goes: If your thumbs are located in their anatomically correct positions, you will not be able to use the thumb holes in the gaiters. They were clearly designed by a man in Plano, TX who had only ever read about snow in a book. They are oriented about as wrong as they could possibly be without constituting a catastrophic failure of the garment. Even still, I don't know why they were shipped like this. It's such a joke. But hey, nobody used to have gaiters so it's easily something you can get around, so I give it 4 stars. Just pretend you never saw the holes and everything will be fine.

the wrist gaiters are nice, but pretty uncomfortable the way they are sewn up. the jacket is definitely WATERPROOF. i've sprayed it with water and nothing got through. it is NOT insulated though, so be sure to layer. it has a good powder skirt too. i love the jacket and don't think anyone could beat the price if you catch it on whiskeymilitia.com

Everything but the Gaiters   03-24-09
FaireduSnow (7): rating
This jacket is well proportioned/sized, keeps you dry effectively, and seems well constructed. My one complain is the arm gaiters - they are not designed to be worn by humans (at least not humans who have anatomically normal arm/hand structure). You either have to twist your arm to fit your thumb through the thumbhole, or you have to twist the sleeve, neither of which are desirable. The solutions are: live with twisted sleeves/arms while wearing the jacket, forget about the gaiters and just wear the jacket old school, or get someone with the appropriate skill set to alter the jacket so that it fits human beings (this will included stitching up existing holes and making new ones). If you aren't used to wearing gaiters, don't worry about it. If you are, but you're not willing to go to the trouble to fix them, look elsewhere. As long as the gaiters aren't a dealbreaker, this is a good jacket.

Great Deal    03-23-09
CDroze (1): rating
I really love the coat. I have to minor complaints. 1. the sleeve insert don't stretch so when you reach for something it really pulls on your thumbs or rips and also the cuff does fit snug to the palm of your hand it hangs loose. 2. the hood doesn't have a good way to sinch it done. Other then those minor details the coat is SWEET!!! and for this price you can't pass it up. I have taken it on a really cold day and been fine and i've been in a spring day and was a little warm but the vents work.

Great jacket, weird length   03-20-09
Anonymous: rating
I've used this jacket in the rain and snow and stayed dry the whole time. I'm 5'9" 180 lbs. and bought a medium. I was able to layer up under and it wasn't TOO tight. But my main gripe is with the length of the arms. The length of the jacket was perfect but when reaching down to strap in, the arms would ride up a lot because they were too short. From reading other reviews on this jacket, some others are also having this same issue. It was impossible to use the wrist gaiters since the arms were so short. I'm returning this jacket to get a bigger one. Hopefully the arms will be longer and the torso won't be too huge. I loved how many pockets the jacket had and the look was great.

Nice Jacket, but defects in size   03-13-09
egoldman821904009 (1): rating
I bought this jacket a few weeks ago. the jacket itself is good quality and has nice functionality. The big flaw is in the sleves. Im 5'11 200 pounds and after reading size chart a medium should fit. Perfect fit in torso, but sleves too short. If I wanted to use the wrist gators I would rip the jacket. I then got the large and the torso to big and the sleves were the same length. Bottom line I cant use the wrist gators, so jacket looses a lot of functionality and not worth the money.

Great Jacket   02-25-09
Abu (1): rating
PROS: awesome, tons of pockets, 3 different mp3 pockets, nicely designed pitzips, super waterproof, neck comes wayy up-covers half my face, love the little access zipper on the front. CONS: one of the little stretchy cuffs on the sleeves started shredding instantly and looks horrible now..not very good material, fits huge, the bottom of one of my mp3 pockets tore out within 2 months and i found my ipod just floatin around way at the bottom of the jacket, hood is huge..won't stay on my head for more than half a run and the little pull-lock thing on the hood doesn't work very well, 2 way zipper is hard to get started - would prefer the ease of 1 zipper, but these are all minor in my opinion and don't really change my view of the jacket, although it would be a 5 star jacket without these little quirks

Large Jungle 686 Uzi Jacket   02-14-09
craigafull1537446 (2): rating
I bought some 686 Smarty Pants and was looking for a matching 686 jacket that matched the snap pattern of the powder skirt. It has a very military look to it and in Jungle green looks as good on the slopes as it does around town. This jacket is more water proof (15k) than my previous jacket but less warm than my Primaloft jacket and fits a little loser so there is plenty of room for extra layers. The arm length is fine except for the wrist gators, they seem to fit fine until you bend over to adjust your bindings or try and lift your arms above your head. That is the only thing not making this a 5 star jacket.

Over All Great Jacket   02-12-09
Casey S. (3): rating
Got this jacket in the Mocha color. It is darker than the one pictured on the site. Over all feel of the jacket is nice, roomy around the main torso but the a length of the Large is pretty average to the other jackets i have in a large (session, other 686). Nice how many different pockets there are. Material is a nice feeling not to stiff for the waterproof rating. Seems to be warm if you just throw a sweatshirt layer under it or just by itself if its not to cold outside. Over all sick Jacket! Good Price as well.

I was in the market for a green jacket and couldnt resist this when I saw it. It comes with a ton of pockets and find myself finding a new one every day! Im 5'10 and weigh in anywhere from 170-180lbs and a size small fits me perfectly. This jacket runs VERY large. I havent been able to test it out yet but first impressions are great.

Good Jacket, runs big   01-21-09
Paul was here. (1): rating
I'm 6'2" with pretty long arms, and I ordered a Large which fits me fine. The arms are longer on this Large than they are on my North Face Mountain Parka, which is an XL (you can compare the specs on Backcountry.com's sizing charts). Jacket looks good, seems rugged, and has a million pockets (pockets inside pockets!) Jungle color looks like a military jacket - in a good way.

I just got this jacket in a LG Rosewood color. I'm 6' tall and I'm not real skinny and this jacket is huge on me. I haven't had a medium size snowboard jacket in years...hopefully it will fit. Other than that it seems like a great jacket w/ a lot of intuitive design details.

I wore these at Mammoth Lakes, CA in single digit temps. They worked perfectly. In powder they were good, when it got wet it beaded the water right off and stayed dry. It actually has so many hidden pockets I find a new one everyday. I carried my cell, a camera, ipod, beanie, gloves, glasses and I still had room. TIP: Try to avoid the Moss color

Good, but...   01-09-09
Titan Boarder (2): rating
I'm 6'3", 200lbs. I ordered an XL. The jacket is very well constructed with more pockets than I know what to do with. The only way you'd lose anything valuable while wearing this coat is if you forgot which pocket you put it in, you could be there all day to check everywhere! Keep in mind this jacket does NOT have a liner, removable or otherwise, and despite the tag, it is not a smarty system and is NOT equipped to accept a zip-in liner. Unfortunately, this coat is short in the arms for me and the thumbholes on the wrist gaiter are cut too close to the elbow-side of the cuff, meaning I was really putting a lot of strain on them whenever I bent down to unstrap. Despite all this, I would have kept it if not for the fit. It's built well, makes you look like a million dollars, and has all the right features.

Great Jacket   01-03-09
Phaeton272174570 (3): rating
I bought this about a month ago, and the jacket is great. It has plenty of pockets and great features. It wears a bit large, (I am 6'1" and 160lbs and I have a M) and the collar is a bit tall, but I prefer it that way. It is lightweight and breathable, being more of a shell than a heavy lined jacket, but it still keeps you surprisingly warm.

Amazing Surprise   12-17-08
SeanQ-MD (4): rating
Super-discounted so I bought (stole?) this jacket (XL-Stone) as a backup. Had little expectations, but lemme tell you....I donned this jacket this past weekend for a 3-day trifecta of Vail (dumping pow), Breck (cloudy & cold) and Keystone (zero degrees by afternoon) and I don't have enough compliments for it! With a good mid-layer on, I had zero issues with cold or the snow. The fit was great (I buy 1 size up for layering and movement, but my regular size Large would've fit just fine), tons of pockets (all accessible), a snug powder skirt and the collar is a big, warm, snuggly cave when zipped up. Only complaint was the way the hood cinched up only from the back, but since 1) its removable, and 2) I just said I love it even in bitter cold and heavy snow, its not a big deal. In summary, this jacket is an absolute STEAL at the listed price...and if you catch it on WhiskeyMilitia, count your blessings and buy two.

NewGuy1212 (1): rating
I'm not an expert but I just got this jacket and it is awesome! I am about 6'2", 200 pounds and an athletic build and the large fits perfectly! I didn't realize it was only a shell, but it's a nice shell that's really warm and has tons of pockets! I don't even know what to do with most of them....But yeah the jacket rocks! Now I just wish there were actual MOUNTAINS to snowboard on in South Dakota....

I liked the jacket, but this thing runs huge. I am 6'1" 175 lbs and I normally wear a large, but went with a medium based on the size chart. well, medium still turned out to be gigantic. I never thought I would ever be a size small in anything. I do like the styling and look of the jacket though.......

nice overall jacket   12-11-08
brian s. (3): rating
This is a nice overall jacket for a good price. Waterproof and breathability are high, it's the perfect length (about 2" longer than a standard length parka, but not so long as to be restrictive). It has light insulation to keep you warm enough on most days, and roomy enough to add layers on colder days, but no heavy lining. Fits well, which makes it pretty comfy. Removable hood and mesh pit zips are well designed, and lots o' pockets including mp3 and pass pockets. As others have noted, this is not the "Smarty" version with removable lining. The tag inside still says "Smarty" for unknown reasons, apparently because they use the same tag for all versions, but it's not. ABOUT THE COLOR PROBLEM EVERYONE IS HAVING: "Moss" is like an lt. olive green (see the thumbnail which shows it correctly). When you click on it, it probably shows the wrong color which most people are calling a "tweed" pattern, almost like a woodsy camo. THIS COLOR IS CALLED "BARK". Notice when you click on the bark thumbnail, it doesn't show any preview. This is because the picture is missing, ignore this fact and if you want that color choose bark. As for me, I already got the moss and not going to exchange it. I'm irked they had the wrong picture, but don't really too much care either way.

Clear Things Up   12-06-08
Micah B (1): rating
For those of you who are confused about this jacket, is is not a Smarty Uzi. The Smarty series has a synthetic down jacket that zips in as a liner. These jackets have no liner, and they are not zip-in compatible (no internal zipper). The powder guard is also not removable as it is sewn in. The hood is zippered, and removable. Also, the moss tweed color is not available and apparently ships as a solid green. The Smarty Uzi is available in this tweed color, but that is a different jacket. I called 686 about this and they seemed confused about this jacket. Still, for the price it's not bad, just not the Smarty Uzi that many people are expecting when they order it.

Don't order the moss you will end up sending it back. And the color is a solid, on my web page it appeared to be a pattern. Thx for the emotional roller coaster.

Moss =/= Tweed   11-20-08

Ordered the moss jacket thinking it would be tweed. Its more of a flat olive/pea soup kinda green. Still a sweet jacket, so I guess I'll warm up to the color.

The MOSS color they have shown here is not what it comes like. It looks tweed in the photo, but the one I just got is a solid olive (no tweed). BE WARNED

Hood isn't helmet compatible, but zips off, the shell looks great without it too.
