Stuck in the middle of "The Bush" in Northern Quebec for 7 days with a wet butt—not fun. Faulty pant or design flaw? I'm not sure, but the pants I had the misfortune of receiving had every seam taped but the one that really counts, the seam on the seat, which later opened about an inch and invited water into my nether regions. It felt like I was wearing a wet diaper. I'd give these pants a second chance if this questionable seam was taped.

Got these to keep in my ski pack on backcountry trips for when it rains or as a wind pant in case of weather changes. I had several chances to use them for both instances skiing here in the PNW and they worked well, rainproof yet breathable. My only comment is I wish the ankle zippers were more effective - there's a sheath connecting the cuffs even when unzipped, makes it hard to get over tele boots. Otherwise, good stuff.

Rain Slick 03-17-06

It has been a particularly wet winter this year in the North West, and I bought these primarily so I could continue biking to work. At about 1/3 of the price of some, I am very pleased with the performance of these rain pants. I have had no problems keeping dry in even the wettest conditions. When it stops raining, they come with a stuff sack about the size of a soda can, which makes hiding them in your pack easy. When the legs are unzipped, the sheath makes taking them off/on while wearing shoes more difficult. However, considering the price, it is something I can live with.

I used these pants on a 6 day hike thru the Smokey Mountain Natl Park (AT) over a New Year break. I wore them 3 of 6 days. One day of constant rain and two days of bitter cold, wind, and 3 to 5 inches of snow. They worked perfectly and I remained dry and warm(requires a base layer underneath). The only drawback I see is the zipper opening at the cuff is not quite big enough and I had to take my boots off to put them on and to take them off. Overall great product and will use them for many years.

These pants are ok. They are decently waterproof, but of course not fully. They will keep off most of the rain, but when in the wet for long periods some does get through. They dry fairly quickly, but when exerting oneself vigorously they will get damp inside (as most waterproof/breathable stuff will). I'm a bike messenger in San Francisco and these work pretty well for that purpose. The main advantage is that they're cheap and I can get a new pair when they ultimately get thrashed, which is not the case with the more expensive yet better quality rain gear.

These pants are waterproof! That was my biggest concern. They're very light and fit in the little bag for easy storage. It can get a little warm wearing them. They're not that breathable, but not bad at all. The only problem I have is with the zippers on the pockets; they get stuck in the fold that is right above the zipper.

Keeping me dry in those heavy New Orleans rainstorms. A bit long in the legs (and I'm average to tall in my height), but i suppose that's better than too short. Thanks.

I'm satisfied with the pant, although the fit is a little weird. The crotch is long but it is tight across the front. When I throw my leg over my cross bar I feel like I'm gonna split em in 2 one of these times. Overall they are not tight just the front area.

The Sierra Designs Hurricane rain pants work as advertised. They have kept me dry in several torrential downpours and are about as breathable as can be expected for waterproof clothing. After an hour of hiking, some moisture accummulates, but it is manageable. I'm wearing lightweight Polartec long underwear with the pants in 40 degree rainy weather, so I barely notice the water vapor buildup. I recommend these pants.

I am pretty picky when it comes to rain gear. Most everything I own is Gore-Tex. I think the packaging since I use them for Backpacking, Day Hiking and Early Spring Hiking in snow. They take up almost no room, or you can clip the stuff sac to the outside of your pack, for easy on access. They are a bit tight with the zips open on the leg to get a hiking boot through, but they fit perfect once you get them on. All in all, a great design!

These pants are (as far as I can tell) bombproof bare bones UL storm gear. I'd wear them 3.5 seasons. I am very happy with them, and they are serving me well. Oh, and the price point wasn't too bad either.

I never wore them in the rain, but they are wind-proof, yet breathable. Just remember to gat a bigger size if you are going to wear them as you outer shell. I used them as my outer shell to hike Mt. Baker, and they were a little tight on top of all my other layers. They are really slick too, so descending/sliding down the mountain was cake. They slide really easily on snow, and I stayed dry too! Can't complain!!

| While the hurricane pants managed to keep me dry during a steady rain it failed to keep me warm!
The pants are paper thin much to my disappointment. Also the adjustable strap around the waist is very confusing. I still can't seem to get the hang of it.
I highly advise a pair of long-johns to wear underneath. This item definitely is not for temp's under 50 degrees. If you work outdoors in the cold and rain I would not recommend them. These pants are geared for warmer temp's. |

These were a Christmas present for my son who will be working on a golf course in rain and sun. He was very excited to get these and has no doubt they will surpass all expectations.
