Scarpa ZG Low Oxygen Hiking Shoe - Men's
Since the 1940’s, Scarpa has been making quality footwear in Italy. Today they continue to push the innovative limits with boots and shoes for hiking, climbing, mountaineering, skiing, and trail running. Their plastic, leather, and composite shoes and boots have climbed up, skied down, and run across just about every piece of terrain imaginable. Never content with their quality and performance, Scarpa continues to find new ways to make your outdoor trips more comfortable.

Not as good as I hoped!   03-25-09

As others have written, the insoles that come with these shoes is a joke. They are super thin and would not stay in place. I also don't like that the tongue is not gusseted, which lets in trail debris, especially since the tongues tend to slip way over to the outside of the shoe, to the point that my sock is visible on the top of my foot. The sole, while providing great traction on every surface I have encountered, is not stiff enough for true hiking. I can feel rocks through it, and my feet are fatigued at the end of the day. Because of the shoes light weight and flimsy soles, they seem to me to be more of a trail runner than a true hiking shoe.

Good shoe, bad insert.   09-09-08

The shoe is great, however, the inserts they come with are made of a thin layer of foam, and not foam rubber rendering them useless (even the ink used for the logo bleeds onto your sock). They are made in Romania and not Italy. Get a half size larger adn with some good inserts they should be good to go.

I had been hiking with a pair of Merrells for the past six months and wanted to try something else. I should have continued with what I know worked. This was my first time wearing the Scarpa shoes and I had the same problem with the aching feet as did the other reviewer. At first, the were very comfortable, but after about 20 minutes, my left foot was aching (never a problem with the Merrells). I love the soles on rocks and hard packed ground, but had some slippage problems on the loose stuff. I bought these because they were priced well. I will use them for now, but switch back to Merrell soon.

Not exactly Scarpa pride, but ok.   05-04-08

Workmanship appears to be ok, these are NOT made in Italy as the representative of this store original told me (btw, this was the deciding factor of this purchase). Have treked the gorge at Little River Canyon with these and the traction is superb. The fit and feel is a little less than desirable; my feet literally ached afterwards and needed some downtime away from these particular shoes. We'll see what the future holds as far as construction. They breathe well, I'll give them that. I've been a fan of Scarpa for many years, though, I guess there's got to be a mistake or two every now and then.
