My Dobie is a very active puller. I hated using a choker because he didn't get it. He'd choke himself the entire walk. Trying other harnesses didn't work either. This is the first product that allowed him to move while giving us the leverage to control him...and NO CHOKING!!!
My vet recomended this harness for my 14 year old Cairn terrier who's having mobility issues. With this harness I can stabilize him while he walks and don't cause him any pain. He prefers that I lift him using the harness to hold most of his weight and only support him slightly underneath. Before I had it he was not letting me lift him but now he just waits patiently for me to use the harness. It's really helped him a lot.
I've ordered 2 of these and can't praise them highly enough. I have one dogs who is a master at backing out of collars -- he's quite secure in the harness and seems very comfortable in it. I also worry about trachea pressure and the harness removes that worry. I love the padded straps, the fit is perfect and it's extremely well made.
Several people have asked where to get one, including my Vet who wants to suggest it for several of his clients. I've got 4 dogs and have already ordered a red & black. I'll be ordering 2 more in the future and would love to see green and blue as additional color choices. I give this product a big thumbs up!
This harness works great. We tried a sherpa-lined seatbelt harness this last winter and we thought it worked fine, but then we got this one because the sherpa was too warm for our Miniature American Eskimo in the warmer weather. This one is much better. He can't wiggle out of it and we are able to steer him where we want to go with much more control than a collar around the neck or our old harness. I definitely think he is more comfortable too. So far so good!
We used these harnesses to take our dogs into some canyons. It was so much easier to help them on little down climbs, over boulder piles and crossing dry fall. We added extra webbing for short lowers though.
According to Ruffwear's website, they say if a dog is in between sizes, to go the one smaller. I tried this and while the S fit my 70 lb. Boxer/Ridgeback, it was more like a corset and was just too tight around his ribcage. So I returned it and got a M and it is a perfect fit now. The fleece lining on the two straps seems to be a hit with him too, usually he tries wriggling out of harnesses but this one allows for great mobility so he was totally fine with wearing it.
This harness is one of the best items I've purchased for my dog, from anywhere. I feel secure knowing he won't slip out and that I'm not hurting him if he tugs at the leash. Everybody I come across loves the way the harness looks. They all get a kick out of it when I pick him up by the handle. This is a great product.
