We used these down in Moab, Utah in Negro Bill's Canyon. They went on super easy and the Velcro straps kept them in place but didn't overly tighten and cut off circulation. He walks really funny for about 10 minutes until he gets used to them being there, but then you could tell he loved them. The sand and rock was really hot going down the trail but it wasn't a problem and the Vibram soles gripped to the rock so well that I had to run up them to keep up with Zeppelin as he had no problem what so ever going up the slick rocks. Great piece of gear to get for your dog to make them a bit more comfy on long hikes.
Now, I'm not one of those kinds of people that buys all kinds of crap for my dog cause he is like my kid, but London runs until his paws literally become hunks of raw and bleeding flesh. I figured that I would give my dog a little help in combating pain and torture for the next few days after a mountain bike ride and buy him some dog shoes. After trying many other brands, this shoes is BY FAR the best! The shoe stops at the first joint of his leg so it doesn't get all funky after a few strides. It stays on phenomenally well, I only had to readjust one of the shoes after a few minutes because I didn't put it on tight enough the first time. He ran for miles and his feet were pristine when we were done biking. The only complaint that London had was that his feet got hot, he kept standing in every river there was along the way. Watch for rocks getting in the shoes if he does do that, but overall he seemed pretty happy. Great investment as I won't have to buy any more bandages for him to chew off. Though he did a pretty funny dance when I first put them on, he did eventually get used to them.
I am a backpacker and a veterinarian. We have sold a lot of different types of booties in our vet hospital and I have heard all the typical downfalls of other booties. These Ruffwear booties are by far superior and well worth the $. I backpacked with my dog over 300 miles this summer and these boots literally saved our trip. I used the boots in rocky or tough sections or on days when we did a lot of mileage. I also gave a set away to some fellow hikers whose dog had damaged all his pads and was having difficulty walking. With the padded boots on this dog was actually prancing at the end of a 14 mile day of hiking. With any bootie it is wise to check your dogs feet for wear areas or "hot spots" every hour or so.
I was equally as happy with the ruffwear palisades dog pack. I've tried quite a few dog packs and this one got hard use for 5 straight weeks of hiking. Awesome.
My 80 pound golden retriever doesn't like these, but he can't type. Tucker gets way too much snow packed into these or they fall off. When they fall off, we frequently lose them in the soft pow.
I read a lot of reviews before buying boots for my dogs. These boots are a little pricey, but they are well worth the cost. There are also socks to go with these boots - they're better used in the winter than in the summer.
If you properly size your dog's feet, the boots fit great. The velcro closure is secure, and the grip tex on the bottom is awesome. I've used these boots on trails in the woods and on the streets in my neighborhood. I can't say whether or not dogs can swim with them on because I have Labs and I take the boots off before they go swimming.
I bought these boots mainly so my dogs wouldn't get cut from debris when I walked them, but also so they wouldn't suffer from cracked pads in the winter (I tried the pad wax product one winter - not worth it). Ruff Wear products are great and durable. And, if you ever have a question, they are always very helpful.
I absolutely love everything Ruffwear makes. We bought the Bark'n Boots with the sock liners, which really help to keep the boots on. I highly recommend the liners if the boots fly off at all on your dog.
I have a young Border Collie and if the boots can stay on him, they can stay on ANY dog.
He runs perfectly fine in snow and ice during the winter with the boots on, and doesn't even notice them after the Frisbee comes out.
also, hopefully this site will get some of Ruffwear's canine Float Coats. they are by far the best dog live vests made.

Love The Boots But ? 03-23-08

I love these boots for my little Boston but they don't always stay on and I am not sure how they could improve them but I like the way these are made than any other dog boots.
