I spent a lot of time checking out all of the dog packs on the market before settling on the Palisade. My dog took to the pack almost immediately - no problems with fitting or comfort, just the novel idea of carrying a load that quickly passed. It's a bit pricier, but it has all the features I was looking for and then some. In particular, the water bladders are a blessing as having to lug water for yourself and pooch on a long day hike on a hot day is unpleasant! In addition to the other features listed, the pack includes fleece lined belly straps for comfort and reflective piping for visibility. The removable saddle bags allow you to give your dog a break while on the trail or if it's going for swim. Overall, well worth the price!

This is a really great pack. My dog has only taken it on one hike so far, but it worked really well. The water bladders allow you to balance the pack really well. Be careful not to put too much water in the bladders....it gets really heavy. Being able to remove the pack from the harness is a definite plus. I was able to take all of the weight off my dog and still use the harness (with lifting handle) to lift him over boulders on the summit. The compression straps don't work all that well...but that is a very minor complaint. All and all, I couldn't be happier with this pack.

This doesn't compare to any other pack. It's top notch! I trained both of my Aussies load carrying with a cheap Kelty pack. After the first desert trip the pack broke and left me carrying everything. This pack is perfect for the Utah desert. The internal water bladders are ideal for long hot sandy trudges. You'll never have to worry about your dogs finding the next water hole. The material is very, very strong and there's enough room for 6 beers on each side. Perfect!

I read lots of reviews on this pack before making my purchase. The harness is better than other packs available, and it's nice that you can remove the pack from the harness so easily. The only con is that I have a skinny dog and the harness buckled a little at his hips and wasn't snug on even the tightest setting. The harness and pack stay in place well and the dog can maneuver as if he had no pack on. The pack is constructed well with sturdy fabric. The water bladder was flimsier than I expected (foil bladder as opposed to thin plastic bladder) and I had trouble removing the caps and had to ask the manufacturer how to do it. The water bladder is a superb feature, as I have a dog that drinks a lot of water (not to mention I walk multiple dogs at a time). The storage area is large with expansion possibility; lots of pockets to put stuff in (little pockets on top are great for empty poop bags). I highly recommend this pack for anyone considering using a pack on their dog for hiking or carrying a large load. This site has the best price by far and the pack is well worth the money! I have two other packs by different manufacturers (they were far less expensive), and they don't stay in place at all.

I have researched a lot of backpacks for my Border Collie and finally came to this product and it is outstanding. My 50lbs Border Collie has worn it a few times hiking and it stayed evenly in place. We loaded it with just one 16 oz water bottle on each side for him to get used to and he did not seem to mind at all, in fact he was rather on a mission! He could smell the treats we put in the small top compartments and new he would get some at the next break. The material is of good quality and the separate harness is a definite plus. It is so easy to use! Definitely worth the money!

A very nice set up, you get the harness + back pack a nice feature because I don't think my little buddy would be able to pack the backpack while we are mtn. biking. Harness d-ring is very durable my buddy got jerked a couple of times for stopping and the harness is designed to not hurt the dog if this happens. Harness is also durable enough for swimming in salt water & beach fun. I give it a four because of the water bladders NOT the same as found on the RUFFWEAR website. they are a the same bags as they use for cheap boxed wine, what's up with that????
