Amazing for the price   07-28-09

At less than $70, these are leaps and bounds the best deal I've seen for breathable, waterproof pants. I haven't had a chance to take these out in winter yet, but initial impressions are that these are insanely comfortable on, run true-to-size (I'm a 30" waist, 5'10, 160lbs, and the small pants fit perfect), and look decent on in the compost color. I tried both the black and the compost, and liked the compost look better. The highly-visible rivets on the front of the black pair are distracting and just aren't my look. But whether these are ideal or not, they really are an amazing deal. I will be using these for winter wear hiking and playing disc golf when the temps drop below freezing. Looking forward to being warm and dry.

nice materials - built to look 'important'   07-17-09

The materials and craftsmanship are very good, but the design is lame. The event logo is in fluorescent orange, apparently so people in the lift line or lodge will know how cool you are. The appearance is the PH lamo-cowboy crap, so if you wear these around other tourists that don't know any better, they'll think you're hip. According to PH's descriptions, these are supposedly hard-charging ski pants from the land of super back-country powder, but there are OPEN pockets in front and back... no closures for them. WTF? I intend to stitch the pockets closed so I can still benefit from the functional parts of the pants. If I can help it, not many people will see me in the back-country, let alone my modified-to-be-functional ski pants.

Good ....but   11-12-09

its a weird combination, the material is great, the fit is good, not bad at all good sizing, etc, what i don't get and the rivets are cold and pierce thru the fabric, so ... why wouldnt anybody think about that?... cover them w silicon or something, i think i will paint them black, as far as the white stitching .. i don't like it but i can live with it for the price i paid for this. the pockets all of them open ... go figure

Awesome pants, but a little strange   10-06-09

As others have said, the material is amazing. Fit isn't as strange as some have said, though it is more old school ski pants than newer baggy style. The lack of zippers on the pockets is pretty stupid. Fit wise, they seem to run a little big. I'm on the high end for medium on the size chart, 33-34 inch waist, and the medium fits great.

bizarre style   09-18-09

First some great things about the pants: eVent softshell is a GREAT material, excellent price from backcountry.com and excellent service from backcountry.com. The main reason I did not like the pant is that it looks VERY tapered and the western styling is very odd appearing. If you can get beyond the silly caricature of western styling you will enjoy the eVent softshell material. Also, pocket without zippers or even velcro closures are really useless when hiking, ski touring or participating in any other backcountry activity

eVent is amazing.   03-20-09

I admittedly got these because my black Descente insulated pants aren't very stylish, and although I have never once been cold in them, if it got above 15 my boxers would be drenched from sweat. The Wyatt Earps were super light and comfortable. I didn't have a layer under them and I only got slightly cold once on the lift at Kirkwood during a blizzard with temps in the teens at the top of the mountain. I was caked in ice and skiing powder all day, and while they did feel a little damp, I was perfectly dry at the end of the day. They also completely dried off within 10 minutes of being inside. I should mention that I ski with a backpack, so the fact that the pants don't have any useful pockets--no storage and no zippers-- wasn't an issue at all for me. I also tend to ski off piste and go pretty hard all day, so if I were just cruising the groomers, I might not have stayed as warm on the lifts. They (Mediums) also run a little long, but I'm 5'6 so that's not saying much. All in all, I give them a 5 for what they are, a lightweight, breathable, water resistant pant that look great and is perfect for resort skiing 90% of the time.

Carhatts made of eVent   11-25-08

First of all... are these the Wyatt Earp's or Billy the Kid's pants? These really look like double front jeans. They have front and rear pockets and rivets taboot. The fit is snug in the front and thighs, but balloons at the cuff to make room for boots. The stretchy fabric allows room to flex though. I wear Garmont Megaride boots and the gaiter fit is tight. You might have problems with larger boots. There are zippers at the bottom of each leg that extend to below the knee. The scuff guard is thin cordura - I'm worried about the longevity of it. The pants also have a microfleece lining to them and there is no belt. I'm keeping them none-the-less. I can't wait to tour in something breathable and cost me less than $100!
