Native Eyewear Attack Sunglasses - Polarized
Since 1997, Native Eyewear has been making sunglasses for the most hardcore outdoor athlete. Their sunglasses are designed to have a close, secure fit so you can ski, climb, bike, or throw yourself out of an airplane with confidence they’ll stay put. On models with interchangeable lenses, you get four different colors that allow you to adapt to any light conditions. Standard on every pair of Native sunglasses are polarized lenses, which cut sun glare off of smooth surfaces like roadways and water for improved vision in the outdoors.

Good full frame glasses can be improved upon.   11-13-07

Fit is quite wide. I measured the inside width at the hinge joint at 5". Behind that the templates spread out even further to a mx of 5.5" before tapering back down over the ears. The profile isn't as round as the throttle lending itself to wider or flatter faces. The nose bridge is also slightly narrower pulling the lenses away from your face slightly. I have a 58cm head and they are almost too wide, but work fine. Lenses go in easily, and slightly harder to get out. This indicates the lenses are held in pretty securely. Haven't had any problems with them popping out. Quality overall is good. The throttles seem to be slightly better as far as lens fit in the templates and overall quality. The rims are very thin and the templates flex a bit if you try to bend them. This causes the lenses to "squeek" as they move around every so slightly which occurs when you clean them. The throttles are stiffer and don't suffer from this nearly as much. The rubber brow area is glued on and made of high density rubber. They are ok, but I like the molded in ones better...they are less bulky. Theses are made in Italy while the throttles are made in Mauritius. I purchased the asphalt, and the finish is slightly different than the throttles in asphalt. The attacks are a flatter black and slightly gray with a almost a soft finish while the throttles are darker black with a smooth hard finish with slightly more luster. The rubber pads all around are grippy and work well. The cam action hinges were already worn out new out of the box. Maybe due to the softer plastic? I like the finish and lens fit of the throttles better, but need a wide template for high intesnsity activities, so these fit the bill.

Not for Me   11-15-08
David Jou (6): rating
These are not for me. They are light, but are so light they feel cheap. The pair I received was pretty gross too. The lenses were dirty from sweat and or dirt and there was a long hair stuck between the right lens and frame. I cleaned it up before I sent the glasses back.

Ultimate Functionality   08-16-08

Yo, recognize: These shades are completely bomber from a functional point of view. They look a little goofy with that mirror/reflex thing that went out 10 years ago, or at least that's what my wife told me. I didn't buy them for the looks though. They are wicked light and put almost no pressure on the nasal bridge, even after a long day. Great side coverage/wind block while biking. Interchangeable lenses are great. We were driving in a blinding, grey wash of a downpour on I-87 last week and we couldn't see jack. I put the sportflex lenses in (think ambervision) and suddenly you could see at least 60 feet further. Probably saved us!

Comfortable   07-11-08

These sunglasses are very comfortable. They have soft flexible plastic for the points that come into contact with your face - the nose guard, the upper rim (below your eyebrows), and the ear pieces. This definitely makes them feel great. They are a pretty large pair of sunglasses, so I would recommend them for someone with a bigger head.

Supremely comfortable   07-09-08

The Attack is my second pair of Native sunglasses, and is unlikely to be my last. In general, Native makes the lightest, most comfortable glasses I've ever slapped on my noggin. I bought these with the idea that they would be used exclusively for cycling, but I love the fit and feel so much I wear them for everything else. I also own an older model that has a bigger lens (vertical) that I find works a little better for descending on my road bike. These, like any other pair of glasses I've tried, tend to cut my field of vision when I'm in the drops, but the older pair (Hardtops I believe) sit higher and have a better shape for the drops. I'm not slamming the Attacks though. I love the fit, look, and feel. I don't know why anyone would buy an over-price under-performing pair of Oakley's when you can get Native's for much cheaper with polarized lenses. Try 'em on at your local retailer and buy from Backcountry. Super fast shipping, great service, and low prices!!! Thanks a million!
