Instant Comfort   02-10-06

I have had my Montrail Stratos boots for about a week now. They were instantly comfortable right out of the box. I have worked several long days in the field and logged many miles through under brush, sticker bushes and wetland. The Montrails felt like a sneaker but supported my feet and ankles like a boot. I am not sure if they are waterproof because I was in water over my knees. They did dry quickly though.

I love these boots! They were broken in after two hikes. They are totally comfortable and extremely versatile. They are good for short or long hikes, wet or dry, packs or not. I have not used them much in snow, so I can't comment on them in that regard, but I did meet someone who uses them with her snow shoes because they are so waterproof. My only complaints are superficial: The boots smell funny. The color is not really a good earthy color, which I prefer for hiking boots.

Montrail Stratos XCR Hiking Boot - Women's   01-08-08

I love, love, LOVE these boots! I bought them to hike the Inka Trail in Peru and was so pleased with my purchase. I spent a week breaking them in before my trip but once I did, I had no problems with blisters or anything. They were super comfortable and supportive throughout the entire four day trek. I highly recommend these boots.

Too Narrow   07-14-08

I wear a 5 1/2 so I ordered a 6 but the toe area was just too narrow to be comfortable. I was afraid that I would end up with blisters so I returned them, other than that they were comfortable.

Comfortable and cute!   03-04-08

These are great hiking boots. They had no break in time and only get more comfortable the more I wear them. They also don't look like your average pair of hiking boots. When you can't see the whole boot, the shoes look like a cute pair of sneakers! Waterproofness is great, I've hiked through snow and mud and haven't had wet feet yet.

Boo Too   09-11-07

Miserable shoes......I was asked to try them for a review. I wear a size 6 and couldn't squeeze into it so I went a half size up and still had a hard time getting it on my foot, not because the length was incorrect but because it was stiff as a board. The salesman insisted it was because it was waterproof and it needed to be tight. It never broke in after 10 miles of hiking and it didn't bend in the sole. Thank God I brought another pair of shoes to wear!!!!

I did not like these boots. They were comfortable enough, didn't need breaking in, but are not very sturdy. I'm outside all day hiking around for my job, and my feet were really tired and sore at the end of the day in these boots, and the ankle support isn't very good. I would not wear them backpacking. Also, they are not waterproof. I wasn't even wearing them in the rain, just morning dew, and my feet got wet. If you're looking for a vegan hiking boot, I would recommend the Garmont Vegan Boot. It isn't waterproof but it's an excellent backpacking/hiking boot and you can always get Gore-Tex socks and gaiters.
