Excellent softshell   10-25-04
slider-2k (3): rating
For me, this is a do-it-all softshell. The fit is perfect, layers nicely under technical shells (Marmot, Oakley) and work jackets (Carhartt). It's clean and simple, warm, definitely stops cold, biting wind, breathable enough to be comfortable across a wide range of activity, and not too bulky. The materials are strong, durable and abrasion resistant. Won't pill or be a lint magnet like many fleeces. Very well made. And, while I'm not a fashion-ista, it looks nice enough to receive compliments :) Downside? It 'aint cheap.

The best in any conditions   07-09-05

I've owned this jacket for almost two years now and have worn it in everything from overcast, mild conditions to 10F and dumping snow. This coat is flawless. If you don't buy it on sale, yes it's spendy but worth every penny. A must have. It does everything Marmot says it will.

everything jacket   12-28-04

I ride (bike) to work everyday in this jacket. Lately it's been below 10 degrees, and I am never cold. It's totally windproof and cleans easily. I love it. It's worth the money bc it lasts. I stay dry too. I wish it had a hood though.

Great Jacket   10-23-05
Aaron Lakanen (1): rating
This jacket is great. The wind stops right at the shell, never touching you. At the same time, the water sheds off the Gore like it’s off of a duck's back. It can be layered or worn as a stand-alone. The only drawback is that there is no hood. I would recommend this jacket to anyone who wants serious protection with a good look.

WOW   01-15-08

I bought this jacket to wear under my gore-tex shell on cold days snowboarding or by itself on warm days snowboarding. I have ended up wearing this jacket every freaking day so much that it's a little weird. It just always makes sense to wear it. I wear it to snowboard in, I wear it to work, I wear it to coffee shops, I wear it to parties, I wear it to the hardware store, to the post office, to hike in, to the gym, to shop for other jackets, I wear it in my apartment in front of the mirror to see how I look in it since I wear it all the time. I'm like a Linus with his blanket with this freaking thing. If you like to wear a variety of jackets for different occasions, this is not for you. If you want one jacket that works perfectly for all conditions, is durable, weatherproof, warm, cool, and does not have an in your face logo on it, this is for you. I don't know what will happen in summer, hopefully I won't carry it around.

Excellent Softshell   03-26-08
root4tigers (1): rating
I bought the Marmot Sharp Point despite the fact that I already own a softshell--the North Face Apex Bionic. The Marmot is a better jacket, but I was always too cheap to pay the standard price. So, when I saw it on sale, I snagged it. Compare to The North Face Apex Bionic, the Marmot Sharp Point is slightly thicker, a little warmer, fits me better, and has pit zips. It appears to repel water quite well too. The Sharp Point is definitely one of the best softshells in its class.

Great light jacket   10-08-08
Deanomite (1): rating
I went to NYC for the first time this year in Feb and I wanted to buy a light softshell jacket for walking around the city, so I bought the Sharp Point jacket. I was more than satisfied with the jacket during my stay in NYC. It was 20 degrees, very windy and snowing and all I wore underneath it was a thin long sleeve sweatshirt. The jacket is very windproof and water resistant which explains why I was able to stay very warm while wearing only a long sleeve sweatshirt underneath. I kept my hands warm by wearing gloves or keeping them in the side pockets. Of course my ears and face were pretty cold, which brings me to mention just like other people said in their reviews, I wish it had a hood. But I guess that can be taken care of by wearing a hooded sweatshirt underneath it. The only downside to that would be that the hood wouldn't be water resistant or windproof like the rest of the jacket. One thing I like on this jacket is that it has under arm vent zippers so you can just unzip and still wear it while indoors and not overheat. This softshell jacket is very much worth the money!

I bought two!   07-15-08
jdrman (8): rating
I have two of these jackets. I had one to wear underneath my hard shell in very cold conditions, but I was wearing it constantly at other times during the year! So I got a second black one for daily use. The jacket looks great (it has a slimming effect), has the pit zips for ventiliation, and has a nice amount of stretching or "give" to make it extremely comfortable. It's a quality-made and versatile jacket that can be worn throughout the year. I highly recommend this jacket!

One of My Favorites   04-26-08
Gunbei1513009 (1): rating
I'm wearing a Sharp Point I bought around 6 years ago and still love it. When I was in an REI purchasing mine I ran into a friend who was returning a Sharp Point because it didn't keep him warm enough in Poland. My experience however, has been more positive. I think this is the most versatile jacket I own because of its blend of technical ability and understated stylishness for around town. I've worn it in environments from 30° nights in Death Valley to 60° days in Los Angeles. Another friend bought one in Feb '08 for a trip and I was able to compare my older version with his new model. The newer one seems to be slightly heavier, but softer and more readily conforms to the shape of your body and it restricts movement less. Mine also has a soft velour interior lining that runs through the sleeves which sometimes binds my arms when wearing long sleeve shirts. When I tried on my friend's '08 model this was much less a problem. I find the windstopping ability and water resistance of this series to be excellent. I've even put the jacket under a running faucet and the water flows off it like a newly waxed car. The Sharp Point I own is an XL. I'm 5'11", 180 lbs. and prefer shells to be slightly loose so I can layer. For its light weight, ease of movement and weather protection, this jacket is one of my all-time favorites.

Marmot Sharp Point   03-01-08
JaWa (2): rating
The Marmot Sharp Point jacket is a great coat for activities down to 5°. I would recommend a chest pocket and interior fleece extended down to the bottom of the cuffs. It appears to be quite water and wind proof is light weight and allows a wide range of movement. I think it's a great coat for a wide range of outdoor activities.

Good, but surpassed by other soft shells   02-09-07
Endurance Junkie (10): rating
Since most people deservedly give this jacket rave reviews, I'd like to point out a few shortcomings that are often overlooked. First, this soft shell is very, very slow to dry. Slower than Schoeller and much slower than Patagonia's double weave. Second, the pockets are low for casual use and therefore interfere with pack straps. Attributes include the most durable fabric I've ever seen for a soft shell and great water repellency. Also, the pit zips are really nice.

Great Softshell   01-10-07

I have 3 other softshell jackets, but none can beat this one. The Sharp Point jacket is warmer than Mountain Hardwear's Synchro jacket, and it fits better too. I really do recommend this jacket. It's one of the best in it's price range.

Just what I needed   10-20-06
flyfish2002 (1): rating
As an avid fly fisherman, I'll go out in any weather. I searched for a Gore-tex softshell to replace my old Marmot Gore Windstopper fleece and found the Marmot Sharp Point. I wore it on two separate trips in October - upstate NY for salmon and central PA for small brown trout. Both weekends were a chaotic combination of cold, light rain in the mornings, followed by warm afternoons, finished off with windy, cold evenings. The Sharp Point handled it all - I combined appropriate layering underneath with use of the front and pit zips to be comfortable all day. Another unexpected benefit: in central PA, I slipped on a few large rocks, went down on one knee and put my hand down to stabilize myself. Well, the hand obviously went underwater. Much to my surprise, the velcro adjustable cuff held the water out. My hand was wet, but my arm (and clothing) stayed dry! Bottom line: the Marmot Sharp Point worked incredibly well for me and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to be outdoors in a varitety of weather conditions.

Great Softshell   01-10-06
Mike R. (1): rating
Marmot has really put out a great softshell. I mainly use the Sharp Point for skiing and it has been great. I have worn this jacket in rain and strong wind and I could not feel either. I am a bit surprised at how well the Sharp Point performs in rain because it is a softshell. This jacket also layers very nicely under other jackets. The only thing I don't like about the jacket is that it is not super warm by itself, but that is what layering is for. This jacket is definitely worth the high price.

You need this jacket!   05-09-04
J.Anthony (1): rating
The first time I wore it I had it on in a restaurant and managed to spill the cheese dip I was eating all over my new jacket. Ack! Not only is the Sharp Point impervious to wind and water resistant, but spills just wash right off and it still looks brand-new. Hey, what can I say? Very goovy jacket and the chicks dig it.

Tasty!   04-27-08
Erik Gulbranson (11): rating
This jacket is a beast! I've worn it several times in the field, and not only did it keep me dry and toasty but it resisted getting shredded or otherwise disfigured on the rocks. Until I head to Antarctica or work above 10,000 ft, this will probably be my only technical outer layer as it has worked so well. It has an athletic cut to it, which I have put to use layering my precip jacket over this for some serious rain protection. I also use this as my outer layer on cold wintry bike rides. And hell, this spring I just toss it on and head for some libations, the jacket gets some compliments along the way. Lastly, it puts out for the weather conditions I've worn it in, without having all the "technical" flair of other pieces (the so-called "tron" look), it's a wind-blocker, rain-shedder, core and limb warmer, a lover and a fighter. The only thing missing is a hood for me noggin'.

First . Very good looking jacket ! Windproof as expected and better fit for me because i have the extra room for layering. I'm 5'11" and 155 lbs and am generally between mens medium or mens large but medium in this jacket was perfect . breathablilty is surprisingly good for a windstopper . The pit zips are a great added idea . definitely improves breathablilty . Have not had a chance to test the durability out on any hikes or crag climbs yet but i have confidence the material will stand up to the abrasion . Will update my review on this in the early spring . great job Marmot! Don't change or discontinue this jacket only to replace it . If you do some people will be disappointed

Sharp Point is Sharp!   12-26-07
carter289 (1): rating
I started my quest to replace a 12 year old Marmot Windstopper with the brand new Marmot Snaz. I've been a medium in Marmot for a couple of decades. Neither the medium nor large Snaz fit so I gave the Sharp Point a try. Classic Marmot fit! The jacket is outstanding. I works just as intended as a true soft shell or as a nice final layer under a shell. The addition of the inside zip pocket is also perfect for both uses. As an added bonus, as a type 1 diabetic, I use the inside pocket to hold my insulin pump.

Kudos for the Sharp Point   04-05-06
Eric19401 (1): rating
I tested the Sharp Point during spring in Philadelphia, PA and it is certainly windproof. I got the jacket for use in a professional environment (a ski jacket or technical winter jacket just didn’t scream ‘executive’), and I’m happy to say it works quite well in that regard. I've had it for a month and so far it's quite durable. Be warned that family members may admire your jacket so much they’ll want to continually borrow it. You might have to buy them a Sharp Point as well.

Absolutely awesome! Don't even think twice!   03-20-06
BhattiMan (1): rating
Ok, this was my first Marmot and I'll admit I bought it for the looks. The day I got it 3 different women stopped me to remark how awesome it looked. And other than that, it is totally windproof, very waterproof (I'll admit I haven't been in a rainstorm). I've worn it skiing and loved it. I've worn it biking and loved it. I wear it every day to work and love it. Some practical thoughts too: the pit vents allow you to deal with temperature variations well; the fabric does not catch on material like other soft shells; it does not stain or attract lint; the cinch-cord does not change the shape of the jacket. I can't stop writing. Just buy the darn thing!

Marmot Sharpe Point jacket   01-04-06
A. Hom (1): rating
This is the second Sharpe Point jacket purchased. The only difference being that the latest version has adjustable rubber band sleeve collars. The jacket is attractive, multifunctional, and durable. The windproofing and water repellency elements were put to the test during the recent San Francisco storm and performed flawlessly. I'd recommend this jacket for daily usage in town as well as in the backcountry. The only negative factor may be the color combinations; however, that is a personal opinion.

Great Jacket   12-22-05

This is a great jacket. I would recomend it highly. It is very warm. I wore it to a football game where it was 15F and really windy, and it wasn't cold. It is also pretty breathable and isn't to hot to wear indoors.

A Marmot for life   10-24-05
Lloydo (1): rating
I was down in New Zealand and the guy at the gear shop made me try this jacket on. I was hooked. Great movement and range of motion. Totally windproof so those brisk fall days on a cycling ride and the soon to come bombs down the slopes won't be hindered by that bone chilling wind. Although it is not a primary waterproof jacket, I decided to test its ability and took it out during some of the hurricane rains it held its own. Great work by Marmot. Warm, windproof, waterproof, has done well in hikes and cycle rides. Waiting for the winter for its true test.

My new favorite jacket   03-19-04
Brian H (1): rating
The Marmot Sharp Point jacket is an excellent jacket for almost all situations. The material is great, feels extremely durable. I'm very happy with it, and I've gotten a lot of compliments on it too! I've only been able to wear it around town, no outdoors stuff yet. But it's been great in rain, snow, subway, city streets...and it's warmer than you think. The cut is also perfect - roomy enough to move, snug enough to keep you warm and comfortable. The price is a little high, obviously, but then again, you're paying for quality, fit, and performance. If you got the funds, it's a good investment. I am certain that it will perform even better once I get a chance to leave the city!

will wear like iron   06-11-08
karlkunkel2234158 (3): rating
I just now bought a Marmot Sharp Point after studying the offerings out there. I had returned a North Face Marvel because of the tight arm pits (and not having pit zips). This Sharp Point seems to have it all. I look forward to using it. One suggestion would be for the company to offer a Velcro-and-elastic cuff combo. It has a Velcro cuff only. So, each time I put on or take off the jacket, I'll have to deal with the Velcro fasteners. Everything else is great, though. Good insulation, lightweight, zip pockets. Super quality.

Awesome jacket    11-06-08
Michael Howland (6): rating
Love it. The medium fits a bit large on me (5'11" 160 lbs) which is perfect for layering. Pit zips and velcro cuffs work great. Windstopper does fine riding the motorcycle around town with just a t-shirt under it down to the mid 40s of Fall. When winter rolls in, I'll probably layer up a bit. Retail is a little steep, but it's pretty easy to find on sale here or elsewhere.
