| I wound up wearing this as weather system Hannah (or maybe it was Ike) blew through the upper reaches of the East Coast. I was on an island in the middle of a lake that straddles the border of Maine and New Hampshire. It was windy and wet and I was SOOO glad that I bought this before the trip. My upper body stayed dry. The pit zips kept me unsweaty, though with them closed, it's breathable but I don't know if it qualifies as "the most breathable" - I'm guessing there's something a touch better. The pockets were big enough to hold small rolls of toilet paper (what a pain going to the latrine that night) and my flashlight. My lower body was wishing that I got the pants. And now that I'm not on an island, I regularly wear this out and about. Oh, I'm usually a petite. I got the extra small and it's a touch big with just a t-shirt on but is nice because I can wear layers underneath it and it fits perfect. Great jacket! |

| I live in Vancouver, BC and it pours with rain for about 6 months of the year (all winter). That's the bonus of living in a rainforest, but having good rain gear is super important. This might be the best rain jacket I've ever owned. Light, well-cut, folds into it's own pocket, pitzips and excellent, non-clammy breathable totally waterproof - it's been great! The sizing is quite accurate and is cut to fit over a fleece or softshell (since the jacket is really light). |

| I bought this jacket to tour around the Andes in Peru during December (the start of the rainy season). Once I received the jacket, I worried that it may be too thin. As I started trekking in Peru, I realized what a great investment this jacket was. The jacket has great velcro sleeves to adjust to whatever width you needed it to be. The bottom of the jacket has a pulley cord to ensure no water would seem through. Overall, this jacket worked wonders for me and it was so easy to travel with because it is lightweight. I could roll it up and put it in my backpack with no hassles. It dries very quickly and now i use it for running as a wind breaker... Highly recommended. |

|
| Ok, if I could give it 3.5 stars I would.
This jacket has been worn in some pretty brutal weather over a 2 month-long backpacking (the hiking type) trip, as well as other shorter hiking trips and while travelling. It's been through rain of every description: drizzling, douwnpour, misty, big drops, etc. Sleet. Snow. Hail.
Most of the time, this jacket did the job. It kept out water, the hood kept water off my face, the pit zips helped me dump heat, and it wasn't too clammy inside, though it sometimes stuck to me under my pack straps if I was wearing just a tank top underneath. However, it did start to leak on one of the sleeves partway through a rainstorm, and then kept leaking there during all the ones after it. Granted, I wasn't treating the jacket very well...it was stuffed everywhere, dragged across branches and rocks, and got washed a couple times in conditions where I couldn't really follow the care instructions and had no dryer (which you need to get the DWR back working). Once I got home, I treated the jacket with a repellency-restoring wash, stuck it in the dryer, and I haven't had it leak again. I do find myself reaching for Gore-tex in a downpour though...I don't quite trust this jacket in heavy rain anymore. For durability, it's been great. No rips, tears, or fading.
I've also used this jacket as a windbreak while climbing, and the Angel-Wing Movement worked great - the jacket didn't pull out of my harness at all. =)
Some of the things I like:
Angel-Wing Movement. Durabiality. Hood design
I don't like:
It leaked. The velcro on the pocket flaps sticks to the mesh lining.
Overall, this is a great jacket if you're looking for something that's lightweight and that you won't feel bad about carrying in your pack all the time "just in case". It's great for backpacking. |

| I live in the hot tropical climate of Bermuda. I've used this jacket for 2 yrs. now and LOVE it! It packs to almost nothing but has pocket large enough to store rainpants. Pit zips really help in the heat. I use it all the time, even waterproof on the scooter and sailboat! |

| Marmot PreCip Jacket Does the Trick 11-06-08 |
Merebea Danforth

|
| The Marmot Precip Jacket is nice and light-weight, and feels nice enough on the inside against bare skin. It's fully waterproof, and packs down small. It's sized to fit over a few layers. I generally wear a medium, and that's what I have in this jacket, which fits over a mid to heavy-weight fleece. It's perfect. |

| Love this rain jacket. Took it with me for a summer in Europe and wore it almost everyday (even when it wasn't raining to keep warm). The hood completely covers my head from the rain with adjustable bungees when needed. It fit over a couple of slim layers and packed down small. I even bought another when my first one went MIA on a trip. Love the packable and take it on all my trips from spring through fall. |

| I've been very impressed with my Marmot PreCip jacket so far. Luckily for me, it arrived about a week prior to Hurricane Isabel. We only saw the outer bands of the storm here, but the rains were pretty heavy. I was really wishing I had ordered the pants. The jacket never felt clammy or damp inside despite exertion. I plan to buy two more as gifts for my brothers. I've never seen a better rain shell for equal or better cost. |

| Precious Precip... 11-12-02 |
Angie McArthur
(60):
|
| The Precip is a great outer layer for all-season play. It keeps wind, rain, and snow out. It's easy to roll and pack into a golf bag, backcountry pack, or hand luggage. Designed so you can easily fit warm, fleecy layers underneath, but it still has enough cut to it so you don't look like a shapeless blob. The key factor is the hood. (It fits large, I usually wear medium but I fit into a small Precip even with all my layers.) |

| I have had this jacket for more than 4 years. I couldn't be happier. The size was spot on... It had held up wonderfully. The only very minor issue I have had is the velcro closures' stitching has weaked over time. However, still keeps me as dry today as it did 4 years ago!! |

| I bought this jacket before a big MT hike where we were warned about the crazy weather. On the ascent, a huge down pour opened up. The jacket kept me bone dry and the pit zips were great. Can get a bit clammy but no water in means no water out. Better than other jackets I have used and very compact. Nice cut makes it usable off the path as well. |

| I liked the jacket, liked the sunny yellow color, but the hood is just too shallow to cover your face for when a downpour really does occur. Super light weight though so maybe it would be great for somewhere that it is just damp or having a small amount of precip. |

| It's been a wet spring here in Jackson Hole, so I've had plenty of opportunities to put my jacket to use. Overall, I'm very pleased with it - it's very lightweight, packable, attractive, and of course great at keeping me dry. I would agree that the hood is a little small, but it hasn't been a major issue for me. I usually wear a medium, so that's the size jacket I purchased and it is definitely roomy enough to layer over a fleece or hoodie. If you want a slim fit, I might recommend a smaller size. |

| As some of the other people have mentioned, the hood is definitely not big enough to provide adequate protection, but it has been a good jacket in all other aspects. The pockets are large and the jacket has a nice shape to it - doesn't make you look "boxy". I bought it in the red and the color is really nice. I have worn it numerous times in the rain since I received it and it does a great job keeping me dry. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. |

| As a Colorado native, you learn to be prepared for any type of weather any time of year. This means anything from wearing shorts to shovel snow, from breaking out the fleece in mid July. I brought my conveniently stowed PreCip jacket to a concert this summer at Red Rocks, despite the cloudless day. A California couple even laughed when I said I was packing my raincoat in my handbag. However, before Modest Mouse came on we found ourselves in the middle of a downpour. Thanks to the PreCip, I was able to stay dry enough(on top at least) to remain in the venue, and even able to move down closer to the stage while less prepared mouse fans were forced to seek shelter. I have also used this jacket during hikes or walks across campus during a sudden Colorado storm. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to remain dry! |

| I love this jacket - it's light enough and packs small enough to carry on every trip into the mountains. The cut and fit are great as well, and it's pretty true to size. I wish there was another pocket or two, and I wish it were a little beefier, but I guess that's what I get for the low weight and price - overall it's a great value and I'd recommend it. |

| For regular hiking or walking in the rain, this jacket is a dream which I love. However, for scrambles in torrential downpours I found that I still got drenched. In fact, my fellow hikers who had used .89 cent emergency clear ponchos purchased at walmart were drier than I was. No matter how tightly I pulled the jacket around me water still seeped up at the waist causing anything I had stored in the mesh pockets to become wet.
Also, although it is fairly light-weight I wish it stored smaller than it does or perhaps came with a little pouch. Otherwise, I really love this jacket and am very happy with my purchase. |

| I bought this jacket at REI before a trip to Vermont in the summer. My previous jacket was stolen in Hawaii. This jacket far surpasses the older marmot jacket I had. It's lighter end easier to pack. It's really not that breathable so the pit zips come in handy If warmth is a concern just simply layer underneath it. Also the hood is a bit large. The brim does droop down if not adjusted. I would like to see a hood that you can remove but I guess that defeats the purpose of a rain jacket and it would also add weight. I'm short and stocky and had to buy a large. The sleeves are a bit long but not obnoxiously long. I didn't have a chance to use it in Hawaii this past season because it doesn't rain too much in September. It worked beautifully in Pennsylvania as it rains quite often in the summer and came in very handy while breaking down an art tent in a steady rain. Bottom line: I'll use it for years to come. |

| Both the Precip jacket and the pants are lightweight and pack small enough for backpacking. The jacket does tend to stick to my skin if I'm hiking hard while wearing it, but there really isn't such thing as a completely breathable rain jacket. I use it as an extra layer in the summer in the Sierras, since I noticed that it traps heat pretty well. Also, since I don't use DEET for mosquitos, I've worn this jacket while hiking and not a single bite! |

| This jacket runs small. We checked the measurements shown on-line and my daughter was in the middle of the size range, yet it was too tight. She wears a size small in every other jacket, but not in a Marmot. Other than that, the color was wonderful and the jacket was nicely made. We returned it for a larger size. |

| The rainiest May in NYC in years blew out my old commuting jacket, so it was time to upgrade. I'd been thinking about the Precip for years, and finally had the excuse I needed! The priorities for me were a jacket that was lightweight, compress-able, had sleeves long enough to ride in without my wrists sticking out and didn't fit like a tent. I started off with the Tamale in Small which was a bit too orange for me and a little short in the wrists (I'm 5'6 with long limbs), so I exchanged it for Sweetpea in Medium. It's a pretty bright green, but I like that it pops out of the background. The body is a bit roomier than I might choose, but I think I'm going to like that once I'm sticking more layers underneath it. The sleeves reach just past my wrist-bones when I'm riding my road bike, and the hood stays put on top of my helmet surprisingly well. The pit zips are great, and easy to grab when riding to ventilate quickly. Having ridden home in the pouring rain several times since getting it, I can vouch that while the rest of me got soaked, my arms and torso were comfortable and dry. Completely recommend this jacket. |

| I love this jacket and look for excuses to wear it. Much better fit than my Mountain Hardware of a similar style - that jacket is all disproportionate to my figure. The Precip, however, fits perfectly, has a feminine cut, and is a beautiful color (I got it in celestial blue). Highly recommended. |

| I'm 5' 11" and 170 lbs, I ordered a Large and this jacket is a perfect fit. The cut is feminine, but leaves room for a warm layer underneth. I just got it last night and I can't wait to try it in the rain!
The color doesn't match what I saw on my monitor, but since the color on my montior depends on my personal montior settings I'd be surprised if it did :) On that note, I did want to mention that the Sweet Pea is a more vibrant color than I expected. I was expecting something closer to the color of the peas growing in my garden.

| I finally got to break in my PreCip on a hike in the Blue Ridge today. It was around 72 degrees and pretty misty/humid, and I easily stuffed the PreCip into my very small hydration pack. 6 miles into the hike it started to rain, so out came the jacket. It fit well even with my backpack on top, and I didn't overheat on the climbs (I opened the pit zips when I put it on, since it was pretty warm). I was looking for a lightweight rain jacket, and it looks like I found the perfect one. |

| I love the performance of this jacket, and the Marmot brand quality. The zippers work great, pit vents are a wonderful invention I didn't even know I needed, and the color is great! The only complaint I would have is that I wish the arms were longer and the body more form fitted. I am 5'8", 120lbs, and have a long torso and long arms. So it is often difficult for me to find womens clothing that are long enough. I purchased the small first, and the arms were at least and inch and a half from my wrist. I then exchanged it (super easy to do thanks to the great people at backcountry.com, even rushed it to me so I wouldn't have to go through the agony of waiting, and waived shipping charges!!) I then received a medium. I'm pretty happy with the arm length, still wish it were a bit longer. I like my sleeves to go at least an inch or two below my wrist for stretching purposes. For me, the medium is a bit big in the width area, but leaves plenty of room for layering in the fall/winter. It does an awesome job of blocking out all wind and rain. Very satisfied! Love backcountry.com, we buy ALL of our stuff from here. You can't beat the prices or the exceptional service!! |

| This is a great jacket. It's perfect for hiking and camping along with walking around campus. I camped for 3 days in the rain and this jacket quickly became my favorite, it kept me wonderfully dry. The only reason I took off a star is that if the jacket is not zipped the velcro near the zipper gets stuck to the inside mesh pockets. I worry about it ripping the inside of the mesh. Otherwise it's a great jacket. |

| I recently purchased this jacket prior to my trip to Ireland, where there are inevitable daily showers, either passing or day-long. It performed amazingly in all kinds of conditions. It looks well enough to wear out in the evening, but is equally suited to the rougher conditions of being on a farm, and climbing along 2,000 foot sea cliffs with blustery winds and precipitation. Overall, very impressed. I never felt a drop of water pass through the jacket. It's a staple worth having. |

| Rain Gear 09-26-06 |
Christie Willett
(1):
|
| We are enjoying our new Marmot rain gear. As a matter of fact, we just ordered a second jacket, as a work jacket, for my husband as his work often requires him to be outside rain or shine. We live in SE Alaska and receive NO LESS than 12 feet of rain a year, sometimes a simple dog walk requires a full suit of gear; so great gear is important if we are to enjoy the outdoors. I just recommended Marmot to our neighbor who was searching for light, comfortable rain gear. |

| Marmot PreCip Jacket 09-11-06 |
Meg Fogg

|
| I used this jacket for the first time this weekend and really enjoyed it. I stayed warm but not too warm and it fit fairly well. I have long arms and found that it was a tad short in the arm but fit well everywhere else. The water just rolled off, I hope it stays that way for a couple of years. I also stayed bone dry. The best part was that it dried up really quickly. Pretty good jacket! |

| The features are good but the cut is very skimpy. I am always a small, but this small didn't leave room for a long-sleeve shirt or even a thin fleece under it. Too short, too narrow in the sleeve, too narrow in the torso. |

| What I wanted was a lightweight, weather-resistant durable jacket. That is exactly what I got with the Marmot PreCip. I've always found Marmot gear to fit well (functional with a feminine look) and wear well. In the rain, the jacket keeps me dry without ever making me feel clammy or sticky. I would recommend it to anyone! |

| I wore the jacket in our tropical storm in Georgia. It keeps me dry while walking. The hood is terrific. The adjustability of the cuffs is terrific. The pockets are nicely sized—I carry dog treats, cell phone and poop bags. I wish the jacket were 1-2 inches longer. (I'm 5'3" and have a relatively short body.) One arm zipper keeps catching. Still, the best I've tried. |

| I bought this for my sister but the size 'M' was too small. I have exchanged for a size 'L'. Just rec'd the 'L' and it looks as if it will fit. The 'M' appeared smaller than other 'M' due to the shaping at bottom. The jacket is well made and ideal for light day walking trips. |

| I recently purchased this jacket for my sister as a birthday present. I bought one for myself at a local outfitters store for my Isle Royal trip early in the summer. I was so happy with the results; I wanted her to have one. It kept me warm and dry (if you know anything about the climate on Isle Royal); it is lightweight, is affordable and last but not least pretty cool looking! |

| I am not sure yet whether I am thrilled with the jacket or not. First, it seems to run small. Second, the "breathability" issue is in question. I am planning on taking it on a Baltic cruise in a few weeks. THAT may be the ultimate test. It seems pricey if I end up not thrilled with it. |

|
| I have never bought a piece of Marmot gear I didn't like, and this rain jacket was no exception. It was so lightweight and compactable that I didn't mind that I carried it every day for two weeks in the Sierras and it didn't rain once. I wore it as an extra warm, windproof layer at night, and shoved it in the top of my pack during the day. I was so disappointed it didn't rain, I put it on when I got home and climbed into the shower. Seems to me like it could withstand any downpour. The hood has just enough of a bill on it to keep the rain out of my face, while not sagging in my eyes. The pit zips are a great plus. If Marmot keeps making such quality, affordable products, I'm going to end up looking like a walking advertisement. |

|
| I have literally lived in this jacket for days at a time, and it has never let me down. It's completely waterproof but so light you almost forget it's there; plus it packs down so small you can bring it with you just about anywhere. The pockets are nice and high, and it's cut long enough to go over any pants and to give you a bit of a seat. It's a straight-forward, no-frills jacket but still cut nicely enough that you could wear it out in public without being embarrassed (if that's an issue). All in all, A+. |

| The Precip Jacket is absolutely AWESOME. It really is designed for a women and fits well but allows total freedom of movement. I have also been out in complete downpours, riding horses in pouring rain for hours, and have NOT ever been wet. There's plenty of space for layers underneath, or you can wear it alone. It also packs into a TINY space. In short, it's perfect! |

| This jacket is ideal for the Seattle downpours. Though it is not insulated in any way, all water beads off without sittin in any place on the jacket. I also like that it has pitzips because here can it sometimes be hot and raining at the same time. Another nice feature is the higer pockets, so you don't have to worry about things falling out of them if they're not zipped. When looking at the pictures I was afraid this jacket was going to be too short since I have a longer torso, but it is the perfect length. I definitely recommend this jacket. |

|
| I purchased this and PreCip pants specifically for weather in Western WA and BC. On a canoe trip in Northern BC (the Bowron Lakes) it rained the whole 2nd half of our trip - days 4, 5, and 6. I was warm and dry, unlike a few others in our group. It's a lightweight jacket, so layering is essential for cold rains, but you will never be drier in a downpour.

| I like my new marmot that replaced the one I left in an airport (which probably disappeared faster than I did getting on the plane), but it seems the style/fit was changed slightly and I preferred my older one over this one. I also wanted the same color as before (the light green) but it seemed to have been replaced by a darker green. I got the blue, but don't like it as much as the light green. Other than that, I like the Precip a lot, or I wouldn't have gotten a replacement! |

| I have had several marmot rain jackets over the years and finally got myself this one since my older one seemed heavy compared to the new materials out now. It's fantastic! It's so lightweight and breathable and very comfortable. Plus I love Marmot - anytime there is a problem with gear/clothes they replace it very quickly. My only knock is that (on me at least) the small is just a bit small to layer comfortably underneath and the medium is too large. |

|
| Got this for a recent 4 day trip to the BWCAW (Late Aug08) - worked great, even when we got 2.5 inches in one night. I did not find the hood to be too small, even while wearing glasses and a headlamp, but then I have a pretty small head. Packs up in about half of the space available in the pocket/pouch (left pocket) with a nice hang loop and zipper tab on the inside to use while packed. The sizing was great and not boxy nor overly skinny, fitting nice and looking nice at the same time it has enough room to layer a fleece underneath withough feeling stuffed in, which allows you to use it as a do-it-all shell instead of packing another coat. My one and only complaint is that on the XL, the velcro straps to hold the cuffs tight do not get small enough to fit my medium frame - every time I went to adjust ropes on the tarps, I got a stream of water running from my wrists to my elbow - inside the coat. |

| This jacket is great for spring/summer wet days. It will keep you dry when it's raining out and it also compliments the female figure. I bought the fire color and it is a nice, bright red. It is also very lightweight and compact, which is great for stowing in your bag when you don't need it. If you're looking for something with insulation however, this jacket doesn't have it. I wouldn't recommend it for cold/wet days but for those warm/wet days you often find this time of year. |

| I really think the only differences between this jacket and a trash bag are the sleeves and the cut, otherwise they perform about the same in the rain. This doesn't breath well at all. The jacket's only redeeming qualities are that its really light and you can almost always find it on sale. |

| I've had this jacket for awhile but didn't feel I had the authority to write a review until recently, when I got caught in a torrential downpour while hiking. I ended up sprinting about a mile to get back to the car, and the only part of me that didn't get soaked to the bone was everything under the PreCip. When it started getting clammy I just opened the pit zips. Great bang for your buck. |
